I believe this was created locally by Winnipeg animator, Cordell Barker. The director of such NFB cartoons "The Cat Came Back" and "Strange Invaders". I actually own all the cups and a framed cel from this commercial. :)
Cool to see such a vintage Inspector Gadget commercial! Still, it can sure be heard that they didn't get Don Adams for this job... the voice isn't very good, and the new animation of Gadget and Madcat is downright terrible! Why on earth is Gadget's face bobbing up and down all the time? Did they figure that more movement would make the animation seem more lavish? It also feels out of character that Gadget stops Madcat, that job should belong to Penny and Brain.
Oh yeah. I should have added that if you look at where we're at 0:22, you will find this is a shot from the second season episode "Ghost Catchers". In this, Dr. Claw is communicating to the M.A.D. agent Dr. Spectrum.
Hey, for years my Grandmother managed one of the first Champs outlets in Winnipeg. On Grant Street at Niagara. Oscar Grubert credited her with making him his first million in the restaurant biz. I practically grew up in the back of that place as she often took me to work with her. Used to help out by folding the boxes for takeout. Ate way too much KFC when I was growing up. Clogged the crap outta my arteries LOL.
Was the location right in that strip mall (where Stewart's, etc. are)? When did it move to that free-standing location (since torn down and is now a chiropractor)? I find it ridiculous I now have to go all the way to Pembina Highway to get my KFC fix (although I'm not much of a fried chicken fan to begin with).
That's right, the strip mall. There was also a drugstore and at one point I believe there was a Gondola's Pizza outlet as well. It moved to the other location around '76, I seem to recall.

@jtubepoxx Interesting. So champs was just a Manitoba based company? I wonder how they scored the rights to use the gadget brand.

@jtubepoxx It certainly has that look Barker would animate his characters doing!

Yeah. In this, M.A.D. Cat looks very much off model. Even Gadget appears to be off model too. Besides, M.A.D. Cat is supposed to be Dr. Claw's pet.

Yeah, I doubt they even used DiC's original model sheets. Or any model sheets at all...
