Is this the Call? when I shared it. So please don't be so boastful. The other half probably has it still on cassettes or converted to their hardrives. Listening until their kids hear it!
Love this song, Mike Been was great composer of music, beautiful job on the Light Sleeper Soundtrack which starred Willem Dafoe and Susan Sarandon. Mike is missed.
i was in a band in the 80's and covered a few call tunes , the call , dreams so real , guaadalcanal diary are jus a few bands that did'nt get the air play the deserve. there are only a handful of people that know of these great bands, hate it for those that have never heard them.
I must say I have this on Vinyl and it Rocks !! SANTA CRUZ Bound.. Miss those hot summer days... laying in the sun watching the Waves flow and recede.
Absolutely one of the best of that era. They stood out; did some things differently. They had their own distinctive sound and produced a string of excellent songs that even today are better than much of what you hear on the radio.
thanks so for posting this. This was the jam back in the day and still holds up. I was trying to remember these guys this past weekend so when I found your post it was like striking gold. Sooo good.
This band was simple and yet so deep. I wish I knew Michael Been & Awesome Friends. The Call was thoughtful, positive, REALISTIC & Reverant. Until we see you in Heaven with your Lord & friends... we will try to strive toward your greatness
@lundehund44 I'm not trying to troll, I'm just stating my honest opinion, the new wave/rock wave really degraded by the mid 80s, the 70s was where the good stuff really was, plus grunge and alternative are generally better overall.
The Call truly were one of the most underrated bands of the '80's !! The radio waves filled the air with songs like "Everywhere I Go" and "I Still Believe" and I love them to this day, BUT but my favorite song off that great album was "Even Now"
LOL the reason why theres no thumbs down is because the shallow minds havnt found this...they have no idea these guys exist. Only we do!....Funny thing is if a DJ wanted to have some fun and put this on the radio and said "Here's a new band called 'the Call'....people would go ape-shit because they'd allready be better than 90% of whats out there
love love love the call soooo sad to find out michael been died did not know. Did not make the news he just left. at least he was with his son on tour sadness R.I.P
I was always a fan of theirs , I'm glad I'm not part of the crowd that has to say "who were these guys?" or "I wish I knew about them back in the day" they had some rotation back in the 80's on MTV when it really was a "music" television station and not some gangsta promo show. And they had some good air play but always seemed to fit into that mold similiar to The Band where you either know of them or were clueless and if you knew of them ...you liked them .
Its a damn shame they didnt get their just dues. The only reason i can think of,the 80's were obviously THE golden age for Rock videos, and these guys didnt have that big hair pretty boy appeal as most bands did back then. they were either ahead or behind their time. Again damn shame.
This video was directed by Michael Been and Produced by Juanita Diana (that's me) and Michael Feeney. Michael loved the portrait shots of his band members. He also loved that this video could be for any song and wasn't lyric specific which he hated. He wasn't one for "concept" videos. All of the videos we produced for him were not song specific and he loved B&W.
@juanitadiana Long overdue kudos on this awesome video. Even though Michael Been and I was close in age, sadly I never got to see him or The Call. Something I truly miss to this day. The 80s's had so many great bands and singers. Yet Michael's voice and the tightknit work his band produced ranked right up there with any of them. He was amazing. I'm sure you felt blessed having known him. Good job.
I love this song! It's my favorite. It has bonded my and the love of my life and the Call forever! Thank you Michael for saying the things I never had the courage to say to the one I love...
I recently learned about The Call and I want to hear more (in this quality!) both those hatefull WMG and UMG whateverthe_ have blocked your other 2 videos. Quite annoying so sorry for you. But I love this video Thanks (thumb-up)
I remember seeing this video on MTV. I loved the song from the moment I heard it and then when out and bought the cassette (yes I bought cassettes back then). I kept hoping to see more from them but nothing else was ever aired. I loved his sexy eyes in this video. So sad that Michael is gone now. I will think of him EVERYWHERE I GO.
RIP Michael Been. I had a chance to meet him back in the Call's heyday in the 80's. Such a great soul and a very nice human being. God Bless his sweet soul..
I was at his memorial over the weekend. Very moving. A great way to honor his life and say goodbye. He died doing what he loved...on tour supporting his son! He's happy wherever he is, I know it!
My husband I produced, this video along with The Walls Came Down. Michael Been was an inspiration to all of us and as you can see from this video, he was very close with the members of the band. We really miss him and we are grateful for the wonderful music he gave us.
@juanitadiana thank you for this gift. This was my first year after college and The Call is my favorite Band. I produce TV now and some music videos as well. I saw the call on three occasions and had the chance to shake Michael's hand we are a less talented and blessed society without him
@BigDaddyDaveinKC Thanks for writing. The Call gave us our first job as a Production Company and hired us for their next 2 projects (the last being directed by Michael Been himself).
