if you watched halo: legends you would know that gravemind tried to destroy the forruners, thats why the "forruners" made halo also master cheif was a forruner but he survived the first halo soon after the covenant took over halo thats why the UNSC is trying to destroy the 8 halos thats why you know there will be alot more halos

@TheLuker8013 You are partialy correct, however, Halo Legends, while entertaining, is not considered cannon and not a source to base information on. For future reference there are only 7 rings in the halo array, and the goal of the UNSC is not to destroy the halo array but to stop the Covenant from using it.  If anything the UNSC would learn from what the Forerunners left behind rather than destroy it. John 117 was forced to destroy Installation 04 merely due to the circumstance of the moment.

However it didn't explain why there were only 7 holograms of the halos on the level "The Ark" as the ark was built before the Halos...retcon maybe?

Whilst the forunner leader was on trial Mendicant Bias took over 5 of the 12 rings. 7 escaped, 5 were destroyed or at least will be destroyed before Halo 1. The book follows someone who escapes the battle halfway through and ends soon after so their fate isn't clear yet, tho at least 2 are destroyed in the battle.

@SRGxNickx278 As for why the Ark didn't replace them maybe there wasn't time to build more as when they finally decided to use the rings there wasn't time. Maybe they decided they didn't need to as 7 did the job well enough. Or perhaps they wanted to conserve the Ark's resources, if 7 could do the job why waste 5 rings worth of resources building a new one, you might need to replace a lot of the rings. Still that's all conjecture, we'll find out more in the next 2 books of the trilogy.
