First of all, this video is awesome. I think the Columbia execs were planning on using this approach, but didn't like the contrast between the ailing and healthy Curly.
I made a video featuring all of the Stooges in one pie fight. Some of the editing, however, is similar to yours in this video. Do you mind if I still post it?
The one short scene where the girl says, "Somebody give me a pie!!" I think Moe should have been somehow edited out so only Curly and the girl would have been visible. Just my two pennies.
It would be funny if you added the part at the end of a Shemp one (Pest man wins) which used footage from this one when Moe is using the punch to wipe his head.
When curly suffered his stroke the Director was calling for him and Moe left the scene and found Curly on the floor unable to lift his head and his mouth distorted, both Curly and Moe were crying, Moe removed Curly and took him home then returning to finish the pie fight!!
Considering that editing in footage from earlier shorts was not unheard of back then, I wonder why they didn't do that to make it look like Curly was in the pie fight? Time constraints?
I LOVE how you cut to Curly @ 4:36. The ONLY PROBLEM was that the pie came from the wrong side when it hit the girl. They could've easily reversed that though. I like it.
Great edit... I think it's very fitting as one final homage to Curly. Too bad they didn't think to do this officially, because in the original, he just kind of disappears. Shemp I feel for, because he was a talent in his own right and I dig what he brought to the Stooges. But Curly? Curly brought the world to the boys. N'yuk! ~noirgwio
you can see that he was having trouble throughout the show (the parts he DID participate in), but the look on his face at 0:45 was basically the beginning of his end as a stooge. makes me cry every time i see it.
R.I.P curly- im a huge fan of the stooges(i'm only 16, and they always make me laugh), but you were my favorite out of them all.
What a comparison between the "old Curly" and the "sick Curly" here, mixing in the old footage. My God, you can SEE that he must have had a series of stokes previously.
Look at the whole right side (Curly's right) of his face at exactly 0:45 when Larry says the line, "Enchanted..." His left side has a bit of a smile and the spark of the old Curly, but the right side looks like a blank, death mask. So sad....
I wrote that for nothing the uploader wrote all that in the bio HA!
I'm a stoop. But here is something I found out about Curly it's kind of sad poor fella.
Curly had to shave his head & felt unappealing to women. To mask his insecurities, Curly ate and drank and caroused whenever the Stooges made personal appearances, His weight ballooned his blood pressure was high. His lifestyle constant drinking caught up with him in 1945, In his last 12 shorts, he was ill, struggling to get through scenes.
A friend just gave me the Vernon Dent Bio "Stooge Heavy" always great to see him support the boys. Great editing job but I like the ending from Pest Man Wins where Shemp pulls Moe away from the punch bowl and really plasters him before the hostess knocks them all out.
Very very well done!!! I often thought of the same thing i.e., what if Curly stayed on in Half-Wits holiday? Often I think of "Pies and Guys" as what would have been, with Curly in Joe Besser's place. And if I remember I think Joe only had 2 or 3 quick scenes during the pie fight in that short.
@vividwatch47 I have another interesting question what might have been if Curly didn´t pass away I think the history of the Comedy today would be so diferent don´t you think so?, salutes from argentina! the three stooges are the best
Great! I thought of doing this a long time ago, but I don't have the means to post movie clips on here. I'm glad someone did it.
Think what else you could do! You can take some same-third-stooge original and remake shorts and blend them for an extra long movie! Maybe "The Ghost Talks" and "Creeps". Or "Scotched in Scotland" and "The Hot Scots". Maybe you can make an extra long Stooges-in-prison film where the story makes sense all the way through! Be a famous Youtube poster to all Stooge fans!

This is exactly what they should have done back when this was being edited for the air. Great work.

Curly hitting himself with the pie was the best part! RIP ALL THE STOOGES, especially Curly who left too soon after this short!

I just noticed something. Vernon Dent has a dual role here: The Senator and the Professor.

@nyshortline Good eye man... but the cat that uploaded this spliced two episodes together: "In the Sweet Pie, and Pie" And "Half-Wits Holiday"
The reason why the uploader titled "Should've Ended" is because:
During Half-Wits Holiday on May 6, 1946, Curly suffered a debilitating stroke, ending his 14-year career, and the film was finished without him.
Watch both of those episodes...there epic!
Cheers!
