I'm a writer 17yrs deep. I'm not from NYC or Cali. I'm from Oklahoma. I learned graff from Subway Art. So my influence comes from NYC mainly the Bronx. I completely agree with Wine149. If you can't do your name real phat, it doesn't matter how dope your "spraycan art" is. You aren't a writer. Your an artist that is good with a can of spraypaint. There is a difference. If a writer is smart enough he does what he can to get better and he gets better. if a writer is about getting up he always stays the trash what he really is... inside.

I totally agree. I always thought graffiti was about the letters - that's why they are called writers.

On the other hand, I consider the guys who do the big drawings to be graffiti artists, because it's all about drawing pictures with cans and the tags are an afterthought, just to say who did it.

thank you for your comments 1st i would like to say i don't want to comme across as a hater. I was asked how do i feel about the fact that currently in graf it seems that art is primary and letters are now secondary. i said if letters are secondary its not graf.graf is about the name and the letters 1st.Chico from the LES,NYC is a great artist but he's wasn't a writer. also Akats you have the wrong chico. kool look at any fx mural you'll see they put some thought into the style of the letters
