  • This will be extremely helpful in a survival situation such as SHTF. These shells AND wax are availabe at most gas stations where I live

  • when you use the wax loads does it leave a lot of gunk in the barrel?

  • Hell...... youd think it would make that pump shottie boot like a mule, didnt appear to though ....

  • I noticed you loaded each shell individually on the pump action. Is there any reason its a bad idea to load 5 in the tube mag on a remington 870?

  • @darbmonkey perhaps they didn't like the idea of it rattling around in the tube. probably they figured that they could peel off some wax and lose pellets into the trigger mechanism.

  • I have a question so I thought I'd ask a man who could properly address it. As far as performance, is there any difference between a wax load vs. a cut shell? From experience, I'd say the major difference would be range, more being with the wax load as well as better ejection. However at present, that's just my hypothesis. Gun on!

  • I'd like to see these going through ballistic gelatine in slow motion :)

  • you shot those out the saiga? i thought all modified shells would fail to feed

  • just like anything that we use in the world today is tested to its extreme before its let out to the public .... example metal baseball bats are tested with a 200mph baseball before its sent out to the little leage ball field you dont think the weapon manufacters dont find out how far they can push there own equipment . Barry keep doing what your doing its fine . And nice shooting

  • the zing you hear from the shot sounds badass

  • Thank you! made 50 of these. I cracked a basketball size rock in two. Very easy and powerful! btw my choulder has a 4inch bright red bruise, lol.

  • Not bad for an improvised slug.

  • barry is a bad ass old man.

these videos are great and the wax slug is genius keep it coming brother don't listen to people on here.

guys i'm sure that with all the firearms experience he has he wouldn't post up something that would that would hurt somebody.

he also did mention that the cut shells where a "fall back plan" when the proper ammo wasn't available back in the day so lets not go getting our panties in a bunch. i think its cool and i learned something from watching keep it up.

  • hey berry tell the critcs to fuck off

    banjoman

  • Don't wanna meet that guy in the parking lot!

  • gotta love remington target loads... cheaper than dirt :)

  • So is there any truth to the pressure blowing up the receiver from cut shells?

  • @ThrowingSpoon I think a lot of people have speculations about the cut shells who have never tried them, just overthink what can happen. Let's say the cut shell gets lodged in the barrel as it starts down the barrel, it would just blow open the crimp at the end and shoot normally after that, so essentially it has a built in safety all ready.

  • really awesome stuff! thanks for the videos guys, I finally get a break from the outrageous slug prices!

  • Hi guys, looks like fun. You have to hold over much at 100yds with those wax slugs?

  • excellent. kinda like homemade safety slugs.

  • How is it cleaning the wax residue out of the action in the semi auto? Does nitro solvent take it off???

  • this is an old hunting trick, depends how much wax you use. Usually was used in hunting ducks (half a spun of wax).

  • I bet the feds love watching this knowing that it makes ballistic fingerprinting of the wax slug near impossible.

  • @Swagman00 any smoothbore gun wont leave that bullistic footprint on the slug anyway so if thats what you want to avoid the old 12 ga. is the best choice!

  • When the slugs hit, does the shot break up inside the target?

  • great video and good job! plan to do the same with a lot of old bird shots laying around the house, cheap and effective way to do slug practice! thanks and keep up the good work!

  • ballistics gel on wax slugs. please! i love these things.

  • very nice, i enjoyed that alot!

  • @Iraqveteran8888 I don't have wax, but can I use Gorilla Super Glue as an alternative? Please advise. 12ga shells

  • @saik0pod You can pick up some paraffin wax at the grocery store. Look in the canning section, canning jars, canning lids, wax...

I would think if you used enough glue to work it would skin over on top and never set up in the center. That would be a mess to clean out of a barrel. And wax is cheap.

  • wow, thats awesome =D definitely some awesome shootin by mr barry haha

  • Hey, I saw your comment saying that you dont like shooting these threw modified chokes and guns with interchangeable chokes, whys this?

  • out standing sir! i have never seen this done before im very impressed

  • This and all the lost art vids are very interesting!

  • Hi Barry, Just curious can't you just open the shell and pour wax straight into the pellets without removing them. Also I have a rifled barrel shotgun when you fire shot out of it at 25 yards you might get one pellet hit the target just wondering if you would know if putting a removable full choke on it would tighten up the pellet spray many thanks mate.

    Mike

  • what is the spot about halfway between the shooter and the target that appears when he shoots at 1:16? right where the tire tracks start in the grass. its only there for a flash

  • weird sound

  • anybudy know what kind of bench rest that is and where i can find one??

  • Ya'll ever thought about showing how to load rock salt loads?

  • love the sound it make when the wax fly!

  • i am wondering, when these hit the target, do the pellets sort of spread apart? would this cause more damage too the target on impact?

  • Just asking, why not interchangeable chokes like IMP, or Cyl. I am asking because I was going to shoot them in my Stoger O/U 20 ga..

  • Can i rent barry as an uncle for a day?

  • i would like to see what these things do to a side of beef!

  • Hmm, It is hard to find 10 gauge slugs. I find mostly 10 gauge bird shot.

Thinking I will have to try this wax slug .

How does the barrel handle the wax over time ?

  • 500 yards with a scope wax slugs ?????????

  • You were using target shells, are those less strong than regular? It looked like the wax shells have plenty of power also. Would this modification be acceptable for hunting? Also the mods in the previous two vids?

  • The hissing sound as the slug goes down range, I get the same thing from Federal Top Gun wax slugs I made. Is that noise from the wad staying attached to the slug as it travels? I don't get that noise from Lee cast slugs or any factory slugs.

  • I'm sure this has been asked but what kind of camera do you use?

  • Im guessing that the effect is that the slug deforms and sprays the pellets afer impact... would it be better than a standard slug?? probably perfect for zombie slaying

  • watching the effect of this in ballistic gel would be awesome

  • I really wish I had my old 20 back :\

  • just subscribed to your video's and i have to say they are awsume. This is great i gotta try it on my 410 single shot. 1 in chamber 3 inbetween fingers and 6 in a stock shell holder i made. i do drills and have gottin pretty good that i can shoot my ten pretty close to that of a pump. I gotta try this too.Now off to watch all your vid's.

  • There's nothing special about these shells, over say Winchester or Federal value-box stuff, right?

  • Transfix this a brick wall? If not, you discovered how to cheap produce frangible equivalent slugs!

  • People are telling you that'll blow up a shotgun? Wow. Dumb people. #1, wax doesn't add enough weight, and isn't going to swell or anything strongly enough to make the wad stick. #2, target loads typically run around 8,000 to 9,000 PSI, often less, compared to the 11,500 maximum. You would need to add at least a fifth of an ounce of extra weight, to even get up to the maximum. You'd need to add a LOT more than that, maybe 1/2 oz. or more, to be in any danger. Not going to happen with wax.

  • Awesome video, but I have one question, can I shoot the wax slug in a gun that is chocke operated? if yes which chocke should i use ? thx and please keep your good video up :)

  • vary nice almost frangible would do nice on a bad guy in a home defense hmm should try shooting some at mock wall see how it does over bird shot and slugs

  • @MrLakewind2012

I wouldn't bet my life on this.

  • Love your videos Barry, I could not tell if you were cycling the wax slugs in your pump later in the vid? Are the waxers safe to cycle in a pump magazine? I see they are fine in a saiga mag so I was wondering if you should single shot with a pump or if you can load them in a pump mag?

  • tried it with my 30 inch beretta teknys, 3 1/2 inch 10 shot group at 50 yards. This makes a very good range round. and thanks for showing me that hi point

  • Make some nice defensive rounds..

  • SHOOT SOME BALLISTICS GELL!! I wanna see what it does :C

  • Great vid, but how come you don't like firing them through a modified choke? If it's a fixed modified choke would it be ok??

  • tried it last week! Easier to make than I thought it would be, I didnt spill as much as Barry! However, I was not nearly as accurate with mine as he was.. at 50yards I had a 12inch group out of a 20" bbl side by side 12ga... going to try some more today, made some more and I was a little more careful to keep the top cut off more uniform perhaps that will help. Thanks for the vid!

  • @k3nm3ist3r Nice thing about it, is there are cheap enough you can shoot the hell out of them and not go broke.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Is the recoil much more then a regular target load?

  • @k3nm3ist3r Im trying to put a rail on my wifes ATI sultan,My problem is there are no pre drilled holes and I see 4 cresent shaped indentions on either side of the rear sights(bead and backbone type) Do you know if these indentions are used for mounting rails/scope rings?the shapes are very simular to this )III( )III( the lines are the rear sights.

    thanks

  • Made them in 20gauge easy. Do you think these would have any problems from a full choke? Thanks for your channel.

  • @swenner64 Full choke will be fine. I just don't like shooting them out of a modified choke of any type of any shotgun with interchangeable chokes of any kind. I will be making up some 20 gauge ones and shooting them maybe this sunday is all goes according to plan. Thanks for watching. You always make direct and meaningful comments.

  • here's a question, Can you just use an empty hull and primer and just fill it up with wax and use it like that?

  • danm man you're awesome!!!

  • Thank you !!! I always thought there was merit to this idea.VERY USEFUL channel you have.I hope you make a dvd of all your vids so far and sell em!

  • @tomterahedrob It may be in the works at some point buy don't hold your breath. I'm still kind of small time right now, but I have a very good following. It's getting to the point where I can't go in Walmart without someone approaching me and asking if I'm the Youtube guy.

  • i wouldnt wanna be at the end of tht

  • so is that a slugger barrel or what? i only have two barrels for my mossberg, so im curious.

  • Another excellent vid ;-) keep up the good work

  • I would love to see how hard they hit some thicker steel.

  • Those things really hiss as they go downrange !

  • Very cool! very lethal!

  • Another great Lost Arts video. Keep it up!

  • Is there any way for you to do a test of those shells on ballistics gel? Would love to see how the shot displaces after impact.

  • Comment removed

  • my grandad used axel grease instead of wax, he taught me how to do both.....the grease is just easier on the barrel and it stays inside the wad so you dont really get any grease in the barrel.

  • i want to see how many layers of dry wall and fiberglass insulation that will go through

  • Ok, I thought it wouldn't be lethal in the beginning but once I saw that was a steel target I learned I was wrong.

  • Ok, I thought it wouldn't be lethal in the beginning but once I saw that was a steel I learned I was wrong.

  • I have SOME reservations about the cut slugs, mostly because the OD of the shell is about .080" bigger than the ID of my shotgun's muzzle. I've made up some of these wax slugs and plan to film those in slow motion in the future. These seem just as nasty as the cut slugs.

  • does the shotgun in the video have a rifled barrel?

  • I love the sound these make haha might have to try this. What kinda shotgun is that?

  • Jeez. Homemade slugs kick ass!

  • with your videos you should get more views awesome vid keep up the good work

  • @backelskin89 Eh...All my subscribers are class "A" people. I have the best subscribers. Quality over quantity.

  • Talk about frangible! Good zombie killers for the price of a box of trap shot and a candle!

  • Ray likes that saiga 12 i dont blame him....Ray is the man! Barry too

  • Barry is my superhero.

  • where to get more information on the lost arts. thank you

  • @odinn62 The OOOLLLLLDDDDDD SCHOOL.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Thank you for those very interesting videos. I can not wait to try them out. As you said, If you need to go deer hunting, and do not have any slugs, this is the way to go. Thanks

  • Man those wax slugs does a hell a lot of damage.

  • this totally eliminates the need for a rifled barrel?

  • i was just wondering if this would work after seeing the cut shell video. i was just at the range yesterday and tried a cut shell through my friends break action 410 pistol. i wonder what a cut shell would do coming out of a judge? feel free to make a video on that one i would like to find out.

  • These look like some fun guys to hang out with. Keep making fun and informative video.

  • I would love to see how these are made. Once the "slug" hits the solid target, will it fragment out to deisperse the shot throughout the target?

  • Eric,

I noticed Barry hand feeding at the beginning of the video, can those not be cycled through a manual magazine?

    Thanks Rick

  • @bonesword98 They can be loaded and cycled in the action no problem. He was running them through the magazine when he was shooting at the gallon jugs.

  • @bonesword98 I noticed that too... thought maybe the wax would gum up the primers or something? But if it works it works, I guess.

  • AWESOME!!! thats all I have to say

  • Erm, is it just me or does the report sound like a supersonic round sent down-range? Distinctive crack.

  • Would those work in a rifled barrel?

  • I'm on his team when the zombie apocalypse starts

  • was that auto at the end?

  • Thumps up my friends. You won't see any this on fpsrussia channel..... that fake.

  • @bud1014 It's funny you say that. I recently discovered his channel and it surprises the hell out of me how many subscribers and views he has for what he posts. I know machine guns are popular and stuff, but it seems a little suspicious that he gets a hold of the stuff that he does. People don't care about learning things anymore, they just want to be entertained.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 watch?v=4g8uN3wIsMU that video tells you how he gets a hold of most of the guns he shoots. I'm not trying to get a bunch of people to his watch his videos but I watch his and yours along with a bunch of others too and like them all. Keep posting the great videos. Love the Lost Art of cut shells videos, and the Sporter Mosin as I made one myself.

  • @zunkted Eh....Whatever floats your boat. I guess I'm a little jaded, because I'm ex-military, but FA is not all it's caked up to be. Give me a 130 year old piece of yak greased caked iron and steel and I'm happy.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Yea same here, I'm happy with the oldie's also.

  • nice video guys... dont pay any attention to all the crybabys and safety sally's... these videos rock, and barry's a badass... i wouldn't want to even be in the same county as him if he was on my ass with a shotgun ! lol

  • Very nice !!!!

  • My dad said he did this one time in Vietnam. Said it took a man's arm completely off...

  • dude barry is the shit

  • Who the hell is claiming that it spikes pressure!? He's full of it!

  • Fuck the naysayer's, keep up the good work guy's.

  • another badass old guy that'll rip yo nuts off and feed em to ya!!! go army!!!!!

  • What could you expect ftlbs. wise from those?

  • I dont understand the benefit to this. Suspending shot in wax is suposed to make? It seems to me it behaves just like a normal lead slug would. When I first saw "wax slug" I thought maybe it was a country boys less lethal thing like you would shoot a dog off your chickens with but guess not.

  • I'm sorry, are these slugs made of ordinary wax (made by bees)? Did I understand right?

  • @CZXh Paraffin wax....Video on making them coming soon.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 cant wait

  • This is very interesting. Subscribing like right now.

  • What about a wax rocksalt slug ? that would be a motherfucker with a gutshot

  • The south will rise again. ;)

  • Cool, I liked the part where the water jugs explode.

  • Holy, fucking, shit.

  • nice ......

  • I honestly wouldn't have believed these could be effective in any way unless until I'd seen this video, you sure showed me! This looks like awesome fun and thank you for reviving these 'lost arts'. Great work!

  • The reason these are "lost arts" is because now I can go down to Wal-mart and pick up a box of rifled slugs. Thse tricks were used when slugs did not exist the way we understand them today. I guess it is never a bad idea to have information of the old ways though. You know know when you need a slug but only have some bird shot handy.

  • Also to appreciate how ingenious and imaginative people were back then.

We're no sons of idiots by any means.

  • lol awesome and ingenuous way of making a 12 gauge slug please post the how to video thanxs and god bless

  • love ur lost art vids pal.....thx for sharing

  • OUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's interesting. Can't wait for the 'how to video'.

  • Wouldn't the wax gunk up the bore a little more than normal?

  • @sadeater i would think the barrel would be too hot for the wax to stick to it, thus blowing any excess wax out of the muzzle.

  • Wow!

  • Well.......can't wait to see how to make those!

  • Beautiful

  • Great informative video, always interested in seeing something different. Thanks for sharing.

  • loving the lost art series! hope to see more..

  • Is that a stock Saiga 12 trigger?

  • I saw the comments from the "expert" claiming the cut slugs create a "barrel obstruction". That's like saying any projectile is a barrel obstruction. Great video guys. I forgot to do a slow-mo test of the cut slugs this weekend. dernit.

  • really cool cant wait to see how you make them just one question i have inter changeable chokes on my shotgun what choke should i use when shooting slugs

    regards yammo12

  • @yammo12 You should never use any choke when firing slugs, especially when using regular lead or sabot slugs.

Simply unscrew any choke you have on before using slugs.

  • @109268 thanks for that info but would i damage the threads in the barrel if i shot a slug without having a choke screw in

    Regards

    yammo12

  • @109268 actually its perectly fine to shoot with a choke on, says it right in the ammo box.

  • Cant wait to see how these thing are made man shit like this is why your one of my favorite channels.

  • As always, great video and information. Barry isn't doing much to save his ears with those muffs up on his temple though :)

  • Amazing, shotguns are awesome weapons. Good video

  • Can you make this from reloadable hulls? I reload so I hate cutting up hulls. It's such a waste when it can be used again. I'm thinking I may thry this with a over shot card on top of the waxed shot and crimping the hull like I normally do will give the same results without cutting the hull up.

  • amazing...loved that information

  • Love the Lost Arts vids, keep em coming

  • wow

  • i can't wait for the next vid

  • people are such babies crying about someone is going to get hurt. when you modify any ammo there is a risk but shit happens. good video don't let the safety sally people stop yall.

  • @bhbuckwheat If you are a safety sally you shouldn't be using firearms because they are dangerous and can kill people=D

  • @vampire847 good point

  • @vampire847 Guns don't kill people. People Kill People. . .

  • @vampire847 They aren't dangerous and they can't kill people. Those using them can use them dangerously and kill people with them.

  • @AdmiralGST I was being sarcastic sorry>.>

  • nice stuff you have going on here.
