I'm 20 and people always mistake me for 16 which annoys me. I usually find it annoying how people mistake me for a high school kid, but this video makes me appreciate my babyface.
I've been applying sunscreen RELIGIOUSLY since I was 16, when I had a family member die of skin cancer. I know its anticlimactic, but it is what it is.
I'm 21 now. Still apply sunscreen if I am going to be out between 10am and 4pm.
I modify my morning skin care routine as so: I apply a moisturizer if I am going to be inside all day, or outdoors outside of the aforementioned time frame. If I'm going outside, switch moisturizer with sunscreen.
People buy expensive creams and serums, but they forget sunscreen, so it's pointless using alll the other stuff when you're not using sunscreen, that's what I think.
GOSH u are brilliante!!!FINALLY somebody saying some TRUTH about aging here on YT! I'm 21 years old. When I was 15 I had severe cystic acne so that's when i really started using sunscreen EVERYDAY, because I was doing chemical peels also. It doesn't matter if it's raining, whatever, I use it. People ask me ALL THE TIME "how do you have such nice skin, what do you use?" I say sunscreen, they never believe me, they think I dont wanna share what I use haha is ridiculous! You said it all.
my mom has amazing skin considering shes 43! compared to all her friends who use anti aging moisterisers all there lives ! . my mom also works monday to friday in a hot 33 degree chlorinated poolas a swim teacher and fitness instructor . frankley i am amazed to this day. the only thing that i can think off is the steam from when her head is above the water 24/7 . she rarley uses sunscreen on her face. i have the same skin type so hopefully with my obsession using sunscreen on my face i will age
@warsicklol honey, SPF is the sun protection cream which filters UVA/UVB rays.I recommand you buy one with UVA AND UVB protection in one, both are harmful for skin.
I find that using mineral based sunscreen (Sunscreen with ingredients like Zinc Oxide) works better, and since it has less chemicals its easier on your skin. As to anyone thinking about using Botox, why in the hell would you do that, you are literally putting poison in your skin.
When your young...30 and below...YES you are right a sunblock is important but it is not ANTI-AGING as much as you think. Sun damage is 98 percent of aging so I do agree that it is important to use and wear a sunscreen. But what about the baby boomers that already did the damage and didn't have a clue about the whole sunscreen gig....Retin-A is the answer hands down. So if we are going to talk realtime, today 2011 we have to make sure of your own personal sun exposure and use of a Retin product.
sunscreen increases risk of skin cancer, the chemicals in it are not proven safe. It is better to get mild sun exposure and avoid burns and over tanning. I use powdered sun block with mica reflectors which I feel is safer, but I generally just keep exposure to a minimum. Sun exposure is extremely helpful, and everyone should get a little each week. Retinol and Vitamin K creme do help remove age spots, placenta creme is also very good. But avoiding excessive sun exposure is key.
I have been using Clinique for 6 years I switch my products around every other month in that way my skin tries something different, I love Clinique, I think is the best for skin care, I completely recommend it and use the mosturizer for the eyes area its great !
I've been using Neutrogena for men's Triple Protect Face Lotion for about 6 months now and it works wonders. It maybe a bit basic in comparison to their Visibly Even line but its great and im sure the main results are the same.
It has spf 20 in it, is a lightweight moisturizer, and it's terrific for use after shaving.
*So if you read this Ross give it a try! it's not too expensive I know you'll love it!
unrelated to skin care but I noticed that you're in an accelerated 2nd degree nursing program - me too! I'm at penn state. you should make videos about your experience as a male in nursing. we're a rare breed!
im a 20 yr old guy here and started using spf just 2 yrs ago. ive noticed that i have thin wrinkles already and been thinking about buying a "retinol" product.
should i still buy or just keep with up with the spf?
@ItsNoe research skin peals, you can do the minor ones at home. The professional peals can give drastic age reversal. retinol is helpful, ive seen very quick results. the advice to avoid excess sun is very good. I personally believe minor sun exposure a few times a week will regenerate skin, this is not enough to cause reddening.
you're starting to age with fine lines on your forehead already...haha just kidding. :) thanks for the tips - already trying to use spf on my face, but its kind of annoying to put it on my neck...x.x
Ross I have a question: I have oily skin so can I use both an oil control mosturizer and a moisturizer with SPF or should I find one which has both? If the second can you recommend any?
Okay thank you. I'm already on month two for clavaris and I just wanted to know what you thought about it. So far my skin has cleared up a lot and my only side effects are dry lips/skin
I can't freaking find "Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer." I live in Canada and I emailed Neutrogena and they said this product doesn't sell here. I can't even get it shipped from the USA via Amazon.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN USE INSTEAD OF THIS?! Something with a matte finish (not oily) + evening skin tone!!!
Every time I use SPF I get really oily :( I use a BB cream with SPF 30 in it which controls the shine a little bit, but the small amount of BB cream I use probably doesn't have much SPF protection... I'm not against powder, I just don't know which is a good choice... Any recommendations?
@Runner94 Go to acne.org and do a search, you will know everything you need to know about accutane. FDA banned it not long ago, only some generic versions are still allowed. I'd do a lot of homework before going on it. Side effects are not worth it.
Hi Ross, just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge and giving advice to us. Since I started treating my skin the way you suggest it really got nice, soft and gentle. And the girls love it ! Big thank you for this, hope it gets back to you somehow !
@UltiateAvenger there are special sunscreen products for that - don't use a "cream" use a "gel" - yes you heard right - there are sunscreen-gels especially for acne-prone skin ! look up the brand "anthelios" :)
I have 2 questions. What if I want to tan and prevent aging at the same time? I am using another moisturizer, but I want to try what you recommended. Can I use 2 different moisturizers for daytime and at night respectively?
@andymch2 Depends where you live. If you live in Germany, belgium, england etc. you even dont need any spf bc it's not sunny enough (and people have trouble with their Vitamin D level bc of that) But if you live in USA-California. florida, or Australia etc. Yeah, you'll need a good spf !
Chanel Beaute Initiale Energizing Multi-Protection Fluid SPF 15. Beats the sh*t out of bot the Clinique and the Neutrogena moisturizers in the sense that it's packed with ingredients that fight free-radical damage, it contains SPF and it fights uneven skin tone and the first signs of aging. A true multi-tasker.
I've heard the same is true for eye creams... you don't really need an anti-aging eye cream, just use your SPF moisturizer under your eyes... right? :) I like that I don't have to buy any more expensive creams!
I love Cerave SPF30 facial moisturizer. It's not greasy, but moisturizes my dry skin, has no fragrance or other band ingredients, and has a high amount of niacinimide too :)
I have yet to find a good SPF moisturizer that goes on light, does not feel thick and shiny and that's affordable in the long term. I use Olay SPF 15. The small tubes you showed won't last long if you use it 365 days.
I don't think year round SPF use is worth the hype it gets. Genetics are stronger than anti-aging potions. You will still lose collagen, your skin will still wrinkle, sag and look dull as you age. Yes, SPF will help against sun damage but it's not the fountain of youth.
dammit ive been using a regular moisturiser for the last 5 years, starting from 25 isn't too bad though, thanks for the advice, however isn't a bit of sun good for the skin because of the vitamin d skin produces?
So the best are physical sunscreen 'cause they reflect the light, so its not touching your skin, but chemical susncreen absorbs the UV radiation into your skin and you can get a tan.
But take care with HOW MUCH you need to apply, there are chemical and phisycal sunscreen; with chemical sunscreen (those with carbons) you need to apply a lot of product to get protected every 2 - 3 hours. And with phisycal sunscreen (those with Zinc and Titanium) you need to apply a pea size to get protected but the same, every 2 - 3 hours.
You cannot mix it with a moisturizer without SPF to get protected 'cause u can decrease the protection.
Another very topical and useful video. Although the weather here in the UK isn't what you might call hot and sunny, the sun occasionally penetrates through the cloud and people get sunburnt. Moisturiser with SPF 15+ sounds a good option. I'll be searching for it in Asda Walmart tomorrow.
I break out from sunscreen so i cant use it everyday. :/ ...thought im out of the sun most of the time anyway. usually when i go outside i slap on spf 70 due to a couple of chem peels ive had in the past few months. i am using retin A at the moment as well and a water based lotion every time i wash my face (day and night). crosses fingers...though after the peels i look 2 years younger.
