@indiana1977 Yeah, same here. I was about 5 at the time it played on t.v. There was a brilliant anime style cartoon video to go with it back then. I asked on a forum called doyouremember about it earlier this evening having thought about it and luckily someone on there knew what it was so I could check out the original cartoon vid on here as well as the extended version. I remember my Mum saying they once showed one of the players hands without a glove on and it was a robot=Publicity stunt.

@TheMasterNo6 Good God,that was nearly 30 years ago and i've seen so many concerts that i can't remember well but if my memory is not playing tricks (i am nearly 60 mate)I will say they did wear the masks.I remember it was in the Empire in Leicester Square in London:)

@ekeland For me I would have put DNA's 1990 version of La Serenissima 'in the same alley' with this Rondo Veneziano's 1983 Extended Disco Mix. I was not aware of Sebastien Tellier and searched YouTube for the F of S Hypnolove remix that you mention and after listening to it can only agree that there is a hint of La Serenissima within it. Mother says thanks and sends you Good Vibrations across the internet.

First heard and seen this played on Wogan in the early 80s. Rondo explained how the art of plying good classical music was being lost and would eventually only be able to be played by robots. he then walked over to a gondola with about ten musicians sitting still with the plain robot masks on. Suddenly they burst to life and started playing this song. Simply brought the house down... Absolutely awesome.

if you look up cannon and balls shows in the early eighties you will see r/v sitting in a gondola which is where they first came to my notice i have loved thier music eversince also thier music has been feature on the cheltenham festival racing if i remember right

Years ago Rondo appeared on Terry Wogans show on BBC1. The musicians were all lined up in a gondola in their period costume and silver robot faces. They were all perfectly still until Rondo took Terry over and seemed to flick a switch, after which they started to play this song live. It was awesome and made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. brilliant.
