  • whats good paper to use for this and pasting

  • @kpportillo tracing paper.

  • does he screen print his giant posters that he wheatpastes on the street? Or does he print them out using a laser printer?

  • i think he silk screens them in small portions and then puts all the pieces together when he's actually putting them up, idk thats how i do it

  • I wonder how much money this guy makes. it must be a lot.

  • actually he sells alot of stuff for cheap.you can get a 6 by 7 inch obey sticker for $3.00 and he has prints for free so you can make your own

  • he's smart he makes moeny and he knows ppl will stick them up for him see ;)

  • @Motorphone1 He sells his prints far cheaper than other artists. Plus he's credit to the team, so any money he makes is deserved.

  • The whole idea of this type of art is kinda satirical. Its about corruption, corruption of existing images and making them our "own." 90 percent of artist build on what other artist are doing or have done, that is just the way it is. There was a whole art movement on taking existing art and corrupting it. Look at the DADA movement>>>putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa...was the plagiarism?

  • WHAT TYPE OF PAPER IS THAT?

  • i think its normal paper bond paper,,

bond works great for that kind of posters

  • what do u think he uses for ink/paint? just plain black paint?

  • with screening i think its just plain ink.

  • As far as the whole intro about not having developed idiosyncracies as other artist do, I can recognise an ORIGINAL work by shepard that I've never seen before instantly by his style and color/texture schemes.

side note. Is Warhol a plagarist for painting a Cambell's Soup can? I hope not. Fairey is revitalizing classic and unknown images to a modern audience (many are spoofs on Soviet and communist propaganda). I would have never know about many of these images other wise. Perception is key

  • uhhh....yes....that was the whole point of warhol. the whole campbell and brillo boxes and repetitive silkscreens.

But the man is an artist, he's much more than a tracer....the actual campaign itself is the work of art...not the imagery.

  • what the hell are you talking about?

  • google: "plagiarism obey", click the first one, you'll know what the talks about.

  • yes, I've read it. The majority of the article is absolute bullshit in the aspect that it enlightens on only ten or so posters that ARE SUPPOSED to be remakes of the original propaganda poster, photograph, et cetera. Fairey has many, many times more original artwork, just because he thought an image was interesting and had some cool elements and decided to make a poster doesn't mean he's trying to pass them off as original artwork.

  • You apparently don't know much about this guy do you...?

  • for every layer, do you need a seperate screen?

  • yes exactly. a screen per color/layer, ya know.

  • is that design still avalible? shepard is awsome at any kind of art he trys

  • really heavy... wanna see more... hook us up...

  • what ink is he using? I know it cant be plastisol

  • probably some fast drying water based ink. youre have to cure plastisol ink and the heat would curl that paper up pretty quick.

  • amazing

  • any more of this footage, that was way cool.
