The speed and strength of these guys scared the hell out of me. They were doing sprints, and lifting 400-500 pound bench press. They are fast as hell. the guts they have only make them harder to tackle. 80% of them do not have man boobs. They are world class athletes. 6 ft 5 320 pound guys who run fast. scary

You have to play American style to get the rush. I played rugby and american football and soccer. nothing is more intense than 300 pound guys who run like track stars and can drop you like your in the way. It is a crazy game and its very difficult to understand as an athlete. Everyone has to do their part all at once

Also, don't forget that AF stops every minute or so, so the players never really tire. When you play rugby you have to keep your intensity high even though you have been playing non stop for a while.

The physical effort demanded from a Rugby player is something to be reckoned with given the eclectic nature of every position. Obviously, it's humanly impossible to maintain full stamina throughout the entire game but at least they're not like AF players, who after marvelling the crowd with a fabulous sprint will spent the following 5 to 10 minutes watching cheerleaders performing and silly beer ads

Ive played both sports, and they are both equally tough in their own right and require 2 completely different things. One requires top of the world explosiveness.. and one requires amazing endurance. 2 equal but completely different styles.
I played Football thru High School, I Rugby in College. Rugby is more like playing “Backyard Football” (no blocking) but without the forward pass. Football practice alone was much more violent than Rugby. In Rugby you stretch the play trying to breakdown one on one match ups. Tackles are like wrestling take downs. Football is like being in a car accident. Bone-jarring hits. And it cost a lot les to insure Rugby players than Football players.

@DharoksOwnz You must have a rudimentary knowledge of the history of the sport. The term "football" was created centuries ago to differentiate sports played on foot as opposed to sports played on horseback. Any sport that requires players to either kick or run a ball over a goal line can be considered a form of football. AF is called "football" in the US as a shortened version of it's proper name, Gridiron Football, just as most people shorten Association Football to just plain "football."

@SuperSpudyboy Not exactly. Tell that to a 350 pound offensive lineman who can run 4.5 seconds in 40 meters. If you ever played this sport it is one of the most violent sports known to man. The G force studies commign out of the University of N Carolina show that each game is = to a car accident. I played Rugby. You get banged up bad. American football I feared for my brain to get beat in. It hurts. Massive fast guys

@Outlawzand1 You might be over stereotyping these guys. I was able to walk through the lockeroom and training rooms of the Green Bay Packers( Americas oldest team) on a business trip. The speed and strength of these guys scared the hell out of me. They were doing sprints, and lifting 400-500 pound bench press. They are fast as hell. the guts they have only make them harder to tackle. 80% of them do not have man boobs. They are world class athletes. 6 ft 5 320 pound guys who run fast. scary

You have to play American style to get the rush. I played rugby and american football and soccer. nothing is more intense than 300 pound guys who run like track stars and can drop you like your in the way. It is a crazy game and its very difficult to understand as an athlete. Everyone has to do their part all at once

I played rugby and football. Rugby is so tame. The pad in football are not pads they are hard plates to allow a guy to beat the hell out of the other guy. Football hurts so much when you get smacked. Rugby just makes you get a bruise or stinger now and then.
Football you fear for your life at times. You can get your body in a wheel chair if you do not watch your self. Guys rip right through you.

@bimini121663 But it's the pads that give them the necessary confidence to hit the way they do. Remove that pads and they wont hit with the same violence. Also, don't forget that AF stops every minute or so, so the players never really tire. When you play rugby you have to keep your intensity high even though you have been playing non stop for a while.

You know like when you excercise, you either jog the whole time, or you full on sprint and stop... rugby is fast jogging with some sprinting, but football is full of sprinting and explosiveness.

@eddieisfiction Wrong: rugby is a full sprinting, full contact game, which requires constant explosiveness from all players even if they have been playing for over an hour. Even if you're extraordinarily fit there will be times when you'll feel like your heart is about to burst. It's a more demanding and complete game.

@eddieisfiction Again it seems like you're having a bit of a problem understanding what I wrote. The physical effort demanded from a Rugby player is something to be reckoned with given the eclectic nature of every position. Obviously, it's humanly impossible to maintain full stamina throughout the entire game but at least they're not like AF players, who after marvelling the crowd with a fabulous sprint will spent the following 5 to 10 minutes watching cheerleaders performing and silly beer ads

Ive played both sports, and they are both equally tough in their own right and require 2 completely different things. One requires top of the world explosiveness.. and one requires amazing endurance. 2 equal but completely different styles.

I played Football thru High School, I Rugby in College. Rugby is more like playing “Backyard Football” (no blocking) but without the forward pass. Football practice alone was much more violent than Rugby. In Rugby you stretch the play trying to breakdown one on one match ups. Tackles are like wrestling take downs. Football is like being in a car accident. Bone-jarring hits. And it cost a lot les to insure Rugby players than Football players.

Though the reason it costs less to insure Rugby players than American Football players is not because Rugby is neccersarily less dangerous but because Rugby has significantly less money involved. If you lose a rugby player you lose a key member of the team but they aren't a multi-million dollar investment like in AF. I totally agree witht he other points though

@DharoksOwnz You must have a rudimentary knowledge of the history of the sport. The term "football" was created centuries ago to differentiate sports played on foot as opposed to sports played on horseback. Any sport that requires players to either kick or run a ball over a goal line can be considered a form of football. AF is called "football" in the US as a shortened version of it's proper name, Gridiron Football, just as most people shorten Association Football to just plain "football."
