I dont think so. The seal hunters I spoke to have said if there were other options for jobs they'd do it, but there arn't any so they do it to feed their kids. Doing something you'd rather not do so your kids can eat is infact pretty manly as far as I'm concerned.

I can Agree with that, threre's gotta be a better way. I cant see how shooting them would not be better. Seals r pretty slow out of water and I'v seen vids of hunters kill 3 seals at a time so I would guess it would be no different with bullets. It most certanly seems a more humane way to do it with a gun.

There is too much seal in St-Lawrence Gulf.. There is more than 2 millions of them and they should be only 1 or 2 hundred thousand. A seal can eat a lot of fish in a day so..if we don't regulate the seal population, the density of fish in the Gulf (like the cod and herring) will decrease dramatically.. Protect the seal to kill all the fish is not the solution. WE HAVE to control the seal population. The killing method or good and the seal don't suffer.

That's ridiculous. If humans didn't over-fish, everything would be fine. To suggest that seals are the main problem, and that's why they need to be hunted is just stupid. It started with us. We over-fished, and now we use that to justify slaughtering seals. I have nothing against hunting. What I do have a problem with are the terribly inhumane and cruel methods used for killing these seals. The entire area is one big torture chamber. If this was happening to humans, we'd all be horrified.

The slaughter started on March 23. Shame on our government for going into the seal nurseries and slaughtering pups most who are just days old. I can't imagine the helplessness of the mother seals, not being able to help their babies. Animal experts will tell you that the bond between mother and infant is still very strong.

Canadians have now learned that the seal hunters have been causing an economic loss to Canada. Sealers are taking huge amounts of money from poor canadians hit with paycheck taxes in order to pay the financial losses of the hunt.

Good Canadians are now reporting Sealers to police.

Problem is that the hunters do not want to cooperate. They continue their selfishness and defend themselves with their very large rude mouths. I've tried to argue, but there is just no point of approaching them. The only thing is to get the government to apply pressure.

They spread lies that 60% of Canadians support this hunt. That HAS to be a lie, because Canadians are fundamentally very compassionate.

The east coast is known for difficult times. It seems everyone there is always struggling. You see these Newfoundlanders migrate to other parts of Canada. Nice people, hard to make them work hard, sometimes, though (not always of course), no offense intended, just an observation.

Living of the land, so to say, is a fact of life, and not wrong. The problem I have is the method and concentration of the hunt.

Well to plant cotton requires the death of many small rodents and habitat loss to species native to the plains or forest that is cleared to grow the cotton. Then there is fertilizer and pesticides. Polyester is made from oil. So there is the whole matter of extraction. Sheep occupy land for grazing that could be occupied by native species.

No matter what you do there is an impact.

I would be more than happy to kill an animal to feed and clothe myself keep in touch with the natural world.
