saw dweezil in melbourne australia zappa plays zappa, he played an absolutely awesome lead solo , on his sg in one song still don't know what it was..but it was cool
@michaeljamsmith, I did read that Eddie would come over to the Zappa house and show Dweezil some things. I also have heard Dweezil say he was a huge EVH nut.
@feickerr My older brother took years to learn it, but he can play "Eruption" note-for-note perfectly, and with a very similar sound, too, which for him was harder to acheive than actually learning all the right notes. He's a pro living in the Sacramento area.
I don't know how anyone can NOT Like this! This is the closest to the original recording i've ever heard. I'm sure that's what Dweezil's intent was. He wasn't trying to 'one up' the master EVH, he was naturally paying tribute to one of his guitar heroes. I don't think even Eddie himself could have come so close to sounding like the original 'Eruption'... Kudos Dweezil
@mattsplatt This was when Dweezil was demonstrating Guitar Rig and was showing how accurately emulate specific guitar sounds. As Eddie's tone is something of urban legend, Dweezil used that as a base, and matched it with a super-accurate rendition of Eruption to go with it.
@Langtw YEAH MAN AXE FX ROCKS....FUCK SANTA IM GOIN TO GET IT MYSELF LOL!!! AWESOME PIECE OF GEAR, AND PROBABLY THE ONLY THING I WILL NEED FROM THE MOMENT I GET IT ON..KINDA SUCKS THOUGH, I KINDA LIKE TO COLLECT GEAR AS SOMEWHAT OF A HOBBY..I GOT A ROLAND VG-99(AWESOME TOO) AN EVENTIDE ULTRA-HARMONIZER DSP-4000..THE ONE VAI USES..ALSO NICE BUT WAY TOO INVOLVED LOL! TAKES A LOOOONG TIME TO TWEAK A GOOD PRACTICAL ALGORITHIM, EVEN THE ONE MARKED VAI-ATONIC OR SOMETHING NEEDS HRS. OF TWEAKAGE!!LOL!
Pretty good rendition. However, nothing compared to Ron Thal's renditions. He played Eruption forwards and backwards by age 12, sounding better than EVH. Today he and Guthrie Govan are at the absolute forefront of contemporary guitar. Dweezil is pretty decent though...
I was fortunate enough to attended one of many Papa Zappa's concerts in the 70's @ the Celeb theater in phx . every seat in that place is a front row seat. no matter where you sit. IT'S STILL RANKS AS THE BEST CONCERT I'VE EVER SEEN. hope i never end up with Alzheimer.. great to see his son following in franks foot steps,
Frank (his dad for you rookies out there) would have inverted it, fucked with it, reintroduced it, diced it sliced it and mocked the hell out it before he would have EVER cared about playing anything note for note in a lame attempt to impress anyone. Franks was the best, and produced a pretty damned good guitarist. But it was your dad's wit, intelligence, sarcasm and focus that made the Zappa name great. remember, it was Frank who laughed at Carlos Santana. R.I.P. FZ
@TENBUX DWEEZIL ZAPPA AND ANYONE NAMED ZAPPA HAS MORE TALENT IN OME STRAND OD HIS HAIR THAN BUCKETHEAD EVERCOULD DREAM OF HAVING AND BUCKETHEAD IS A DECENT GUITARIST
@AudioTrek777 I agree, Buckethead needs to go back to where he came from. We don't want what he's selling. We won't bother him when he's a regular average Joe, we just prefer him not to play guitar ever again in life.
The Axe FX is pretty stellar. That was muuuucchh better than a close approximation to Ed's tone. Pretty fuckin' cool !!!! Of course, you must have the talent to dial it in.
He plays it better than Eddie does live! EVH always tries to add or take something away from it instead of just playing it like this. Dweezil is one hell of a good guitarist!
Alright kids. Here is the story. Dweezil growing up was a huge EVH fan. Dweezil tells the story of meeting EVH when he was 12. Eddie called and came over to the house to meet Frank. Frank called Steve Vai and they sat up playing guitar until 3:00am. Eddie later came to a talent show to see Dweezil (and actually gave him a guitar which he still has to this day). EVH later that year produced 'MMISC' for Dweezil. From what I understand, they have seen each other sporadically over the years.
@QtommyQ- NO, no- Ok here's the REAL story! Steve Vai was then, & from what I hear, still IS a huge "fan" of young boys, & when he got hungry nothing could satisfy more then little Dweezil's warm supple buns. SO, one night Steve was on a butt-pirate rampage! he'd already torn through Satriani's pooper but wanted more, WAY MORE. So he ran over to "the house" to get him some sweet Dweezie, & was shocked to find EVH was there! He quickly jumped in the middle for a "Lucky Pierre" moment- the END.
This Is Dweezil playing 'Sex Farm' at the Lindberg Air Force Base. They just had one request, would he play a couple of slow numbers so they could dance.
@zenopation Eddie came over to Frank's house while Vai was there and they jammed or something, but Eddie was never Dweezil's "guitar teacher". I can't imagine Eddie ever being even remotely interested in that.
@zenopation Nahh man, Steve Vai was his teacher, he was just a big fan of Eddie Van Halen, and met him a few times through his Dad, since Eddie was in fact a Frank Zappa fan.
@zenopation and steve vai, warren cuccurullo, holdsworth and many others.. great artist..!! dweezil is very lucky and humble and great guy..!!! best for him... and family..!!!!
@zenopation Actually Steve Vai was his teacher. Ed came a high school performance of Dweezil's and showed him how to properly play "Runnin' with the Devil"
that was pretty damn good, he added in almost every little nuance
