  • The best part is at 5:28

  • as a bassplayer the intro didnt blow my mind, but yeah sure was impressive that i had to do a double take.

  • i think this version sounds better live...

  • Get the audio from this clip at tubepull doht cohm.

  • When will JM come to France ? He has a lot of fans there

  • I've never seen someone playing an instrument like that, and that good.

And than his beautiful voice on top of it. It makes him an performer to remember, and he's gonna stick!

  • i just know for sure the girl up front in the white shirt is the same as in the Where Is The Light DVD! Anyone recognize her?

  • what are those at 4:49 and how do you play them?

  • @Stefanrocks there just octave chords, a lot easier than it looks

  • @NewMusicSpacequake thanks, but how many notes are being played, just 2? cuz it looks like john is playin a lot more than just 2, or maybe he is just muting a lot of the strings...? idk

  • you gotta have the sax and trumpet solos.

    either way jm3 fucking rips

  • he knows how to feel it

  • I noticed that his headstock is that of a lefty's, but the body is that of a righty handed player's.

  • @MatthewShotAlex Fender reverse headstock, limited edition. I don't think they even sell it anymore.

  • @ 6:11 "I want your babies" lol

  • hows he playing that lick at 3:46 anyone?

  • @GMANLOVE that seriously is the sickest part of that whole song. I have no clue how to play it. he is really good with syncopation. Check out the lick he does on Vultures in Where The Light Is at 4 minutes and 46 seconds in. the dirtiest thing he has ever done.

  • He's doing a triplet finger picking pattern which is "P-I-MA" (Thumb, index finger, then middle finger and ring finger together.) At least that's how I do it. It's hard to see his hands right there in the video.

  • Most people like John Mayer for the wrong reasons. But he's awesome.

  • explain...

  • Alot of people like him just for his pop stuff. They don't really appreciate him for the amazing guitarist he is

  • @USAFAminnick I like both of his material, but mostly his great blues. :)

  • John is a good guitar player, but I still like the Ray Charles cover better.

    To each his own.

  • Ashford and Simpson wrote this song.

  • No just Ashford.

  • I had the Ray Charles/Wasp albums and both Ashford and Simpson were credited.

  • Very fucnky, most funky version I've seen of him

  • How does he do that technique at 3:47? It's like funk finger picking!

  • This song sounds much better with the full band. That shit he does after "Hope to live as gold" is fucking insane though. That's a technique that sets john mayer aside from SRV. SRV was all gut wrenching texas blues licks. Mayer's slap chops are something completely new to the genre. It's incredible some of the stuff he does.

  • "hope to live is gone"

  • He's copying SRV. I've seen Stevie do all that stuff.

  • really? Show me. if you can.

  • check out just about any SRV vid. The Little Wing/Fender promo shows some. What did mean by "slap chops"?

  • 5.30 and further Stevie shit? haha..

  • he aint copying stevie...he was his idol

    hes majorly influenced by him

  • @johnm14 - Saw him last night in New Zealand. Great gig however wasn't the trio ..... "Still Waiting.... for them to come!! Haha

  • The girl at :47 seconds is feelin' it in her bones...groovin'

  • it's amazing what people can do with a guitar...

  • i love that guitar... how come the headstock is upside down?

  • he's got a lefty neck on a right guitar... kinda reminiscent of the look of hendrix

  • This is not lefty neck. It's normal neck but with reversed headstock :)

  • at 5:29, love the groove!!!! :-)

  • i love it. mayer pwns. always ftw.

  • This intro blew my fucking mind. WTF!?

  • Great! Does anyboady know which equipement he uses here??

  • american strat with a two rock amp, idk about then but now he uses a marshall blues breaker II, maxon 808, ibanez ts-9 and Boss Blues Driver-2

  • Actually I think this song is really by Harvey Mandel not Ray...

  • no its originally by ray charles home boy

  • ray charles didn't write it though but thats how the song became known

  • are you sure, wikipedia has never failed me yet? lol just joking. your probably right im not that big of a ray charles fan

  • first word that came to my head when i heard this song "groovy" lol

  • brighter

  • wow idol!!!

  • mmm, i have the heavier things dvd on blu ray :D and i gotta say it sounds a BIT better with it being a guitar duet. ain't disrespectin john.

    He rules.

  • I gotta agree, you almost dont wanna say it...but its the truth lol

  • lol cool player u r john

  • is this a 'trio' performance, then where does the organ sound come from?

  • i think its a pedal at ihs feet which just plays a chord the whole way through...?

  • Probably his electroharmonix pog. It's what he uses to get an organ like tone in "i don't trust myslef with loving you" and others songs requiring it.

  • you mean in repair? and he didnt have a pog in the trio board

  • my bad.

  • why is the headstock on john's guitar upside down?

  • to pay homage to jimi henddrix, it looks like a lefty guitar

  • but the pickguard should be upside down also if its a lefty...

  • actually putting a lefty neck on a righty guitar helps the strings tone and intonation.

  • oh really? how?

  • you have to use more string to actually string your guitar, making your lower strings more punchy

  • pino palladino is a good bass player but with guys like john mayer and steve jordan you gotsta have more flavor and not just chill off on the side. you can tell all the chemistry is with john and steve.

  • the strat screams. Awesome tone

  • Agreed. One of my favourite guitar tones.

  • There's some real experimenting from Mayer in this performance. Some good, the rest interesting.

  • John Mayer grooves! Besides the girl on 0:48 is hot!!!

  • r u kidding me now? look at the girl at 4:56-4:58...

She is the first reason for me to watch again this video clip rather than hearing to John Mayer playing the guitar!!

  • I like the girl on 0:48 more than that on 4:56. For me THIS girl is the first reason to watch again this video.

  • it's accepted! no problem : ))

  • lol :D

  • how did you do that, with the link?

  • I don't know. I just wrote 0:48

  • outro is great now he do that kind of stuff when he ends vultures

  • dayyum. thats a phat, funky groove. i dig. i dig

  • Yes really difficult ,that's why this clip is stiff. Take a look at the one with scofield and another rythm acoustic player, way more groovy or relaxed. Anyway John Mayer is GREAT.

  • he's been playing for 15 years.

  • Dont know how he can sing *and* play that riff at the same time. I know its possible, but its pretty hard isn't it?

  • not if you practice it
