  • someone give this guy a bg of sugar or something!

  • @notsoginger LOL

  • That guy was bricking it

  • lol

  • Ayrshore is partially correct.

Homeplugs / PLT's do cause a lot of interference to the radio spectrum and can wipe out DAB coverage and other services such as Amateur Radio.

Ofcom have agreed that lots of homeplugs do not comply with EU regulations and are infact illegal to use and sell in the UK. BT acknowledge this and will happily swap out the offending homeplugs if you purchased them from them or was provided with them.

    Google - "Ofcom PLT"

  • Illegal? Someone had better tell BT - they send them out with their BT Vision boxes.

Of course they're not illegal. As to why use them - well mainly to get an ethernet feed from the back to the front of a house - or upstairs etc. Isn't that obvious?

  • @oggy1310 ..as opposed to running a bit of flat ethernet cable (2.99 per 20 metre run, with plugs, on ebay), thus getting far better throughput, zero interference to radio, and zero power consumption from the wall socket. The flat cable tucks under carpet edges neatly.

If you don't want to run cable, nothing wrong with wifi. Be a good neighbour. Power line network adapters fail legal EMC limits by over 1000 times. They abuse the radio spectrum. They will go. Avoid.

  • The homeplug devices, as well as causing radio interference, are a waste of time, energy and money. You need two cat cables and two network cards as well as the homeplug adapters, so why not just use one cat cable with the two network cards? Faster, cheaper, completely secure, no interference to radio reception and zero electricity consumption. It's a no-brainer. Avoid Homeplugs and PLAs. They'll probably be illegal soon anyway, since they don't comply with regulations.

  • Homeplug adaptors are illegal to sell or use in the UK.

  • @Ayrshore Well Freesat is a government regulated body, I can hardly imagine they would be recommending the use of homeplug technology if it was "illegal".

  • Hi - please note that Home plugs can and do cause radio interference. The latest gigabit homeplugs even cause interference to VHF FM and DAB Radio as they use the spectrum from LF upto over 300MHz.

See G7CNF's channel for videos - Thank you for not using homeplugs.

    google 'ukqrm'
