There are so many geo-political considerations involved in arms purchases.Nevertheless the M777 is actually a BAe systems gun,who also own the earlier named BOFORS.
BOFORS does make excellent artillery and M777 is combat proven.
The Indian government is likely purchasing the M777 Howitzer from the US
The Indian army did prefer the Pegasus as it was similar to the highly praised and batlle proven Bofors gun
But a scandal about ST Kinetics trying to influence/bribe the head of the Indian Ordnance board lead to the blacklisting of the Singapore firm
If the US congress approves, the Indian Army will be getting the costlier M777 howitzer which is neither as light as Pegasus nor has self-propel feature... Pity !
Don't get all weepy about this it all boils down to who is giving more bribes, arms deals are usually very dirty business have to bribe and grease palms all around, don't think for a moment the americans are so goody they also in the thick of it too, these deals are worth maybe hundreds of millions including training maintainence ammo production and maybe future business can mean the difference workers getting jobs or getting laid off much is at stake and stakes are high.
Davidtoh83. IS it true that Singapore 155mm artillery's are lighter then Swedish 155mm Bofor Guns? heard rumors that Indian army are buying lighter 155mm guns from singapore.
