  • does anyone know where to get the odst version i like that voice better

  • Thumbs up if Halo3 ODST brought you here

  • Is it just me, or do songs in foreign languages sound better than they do in english?

  • @FlyingFocs its welsh not really foreign is it

  • @Airbourneism Let me rephrase: songs in a language other than English.

  • @FlyingFocs better ;)

  • @The9thMan99 It's Welsh people, not british.I'm Welsh so there we go (wales is that country off england nobodys heard of) cymru am byth!

  • @schmoo1507 I know what Wales is, I went to Cardiff when I was a kid -.-".

  • @schmoo1507

I am like 1/4th welsh.. you are right nobody knows what I am talking about when I say that..

  • Very cool. What language is this? I can't recognize it.

  • @The9thMan99 I believe it is Hungarian which in halo reach a lot of the natives speak it as well.

  • @WolvenKnightable It's not Hungarian because (1) the group is British, (2) it says "Celtic Version" in the title and (3) this song existed before Halo Reach and wasn't made for Halo ODST -.- ". It's some kind of Celtic but I would like to know what.

  • @The9thMan99, its Welsh (Cymru) mate. People have mentioned Hungarian (Magyar) because in the Halo Intro the NCOs are yelling in Magyar.

  • @The9thMan99

    welsh.

  • This song is in the beginning of the game Lord of the rings: War in the north! in Bree! :D

  • this song reminds me of halo and band of brothers.....halo i know why but band of brothers i don't know why.....tell me why people, TELL ME!

  • What language is this?

  • @tom101942

    welsh.

  • i love it

  • this song is amazing

  • the drums should be louder on this song. good anyways

  • i want lyrics!

  • @CreedofDarkness Dweud a ddoi di eto n’ol Cariad bach, er cilio’n ffo. Nid yw’r haf I mi Ddim ond hirlwm, Er pan gollais ti. It translates to "Say you will not return sweetheart, since you flew away. I have no summer, only the worst of winter since I lost you."

  • @Nietzchian thanks.... but in all honesty i'm looking at the words and thinking "okaaaay.... how does that letter make that sound?" but thanks, just goes to show you how wonderfully different languages can be (yay diversity!)

  • @CreedofDarkness it's welsh, dd=th, ll=lch, ff=well f actually

  • @GDW311

How is either "Iron by woodkid" or "Genesis by Justice" "chav music"?

    Give your head a wobble.

  • This is really Celtic , I am a French Celtic and here in France , we just love other Celtic musics , absolutely good !

  • This song reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean for some reason. It would be perfect for the opening scene for a movie of some kind. Also I heard a more tragic sounding version of this song in Spore Galactic Adventures.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • haha 6 romans dislike the music. Haven't forgiven their old enemies yet :))

  • thumbs up if u heard of and learned this song by the power of halo

  • @metalMAN970

halo made me fall in love with this song, it made me, i dont know how but it did, and i dont regret it

  • @metalMAN970 i came here to inspire myself before going to reach matchmaking

  • @metalMAN970 sadly yes

  • Aidans rule!

  • why is is better on the odst trailer

  • this is Welsh.

but it looks like cornish, scotish gaelic and irish gaelic. this is because all 4 fucking languages developed on the same fuckign island. you will never find the "dwe" in scotish gaelic. you will never find "n' " in irish gaelic. cornish is more or less welsh but with some Briton (from the french province Brittony in norther france) mixed in.

i dont speak any 5 of these languages. but i have read my facts and i infac do live in a gaelic speaking comunity

  • @zactheman999 Its Escuerda. youll have to check my spelling. im going by how it sounds. its spelled differently. its an almost dead dialect of the old irish the oldest form of goidelic. barely a tenth of ireland still speaks it. It explains why it sounds like welsh, cornish, and gaelic since they evolved from old irish and its dialects like this one.

  • MY GOD this song just grabbed my soul and ripped it out off my body

  • for some reason this song makes me think of the words "i know what must be done"

  • @albertjester ''if i must, then i will''

  • @FALLOUTMOD4321 it doesn't even look Russian! Anyone who can mix up a language from Western Europe with a language from North Asia clearly needs to go back to highschool and take a fucking World History class. Languages are the easiest thing in the world to learn, it's not something difficult like Economics or Rocket Science for fucks sake.

  • @WolfFawkes actually languages are pretty hard to learn...English,German,and Chinese or japanese being the hardest because of pronunciation, grammar and their rules

  • @Whiteanger2 English perhaps, German is very simple and straightforward. Japanese is a little harder, but you're comparing Asiatic languages to Anglo Saxon Germanics which differ wildly. Languages are actually much easier to learn than you think. The problem is for Americans like you and I is that we go through 12 years of English class....even though we only needed the first 5 years of it...when you're bored to death with your own tongue, learning a new one looks much harder to do.

  • The language is ancient Gaelic, the same language the brothers from Boondock Saints used.

  • @FALLOUTMOD4321 Что ты говоришь?

  • @XXRANGERSXX75th i dont even know man, i was born in russian, i speak russian, this is not russian.....

  • @Orange8Films its hungrian

  • @watcher792 actually its Welsh Celtic language , close to Irish , Scot and Breton .

  • @HorrelLimbo ahhh kk i heard the language they spoke in the trailer was Hungrian my bad thought the song was too

  • ODST feet first into hell! orbital drop shock trooper!. ohhrah!

  • FEET FIRST

    O.D.S.T

    ONLY

    DEATH

    STOPS

    THEM

  • Welsh, this language is Welsh.

Not Hungarian, not Irish or ancient Irish or Scottish or German or bloody Chinese.

Some of these words seem to be archaic forms of Welsh, but it's all Welsh.

  • @daviesboi1 its gaelic welsh and the reson it would seem similar to some is that it is still a slavic/nordic language. irish gaelic is similar in many ways and the celtic beat can also throw most off. to understand this you neednt get angry. educate people dont scorn them for not knowing what wasnt taught to them. slavic/nordic is german, britainian (old celtic gaelic), vesi, ostro, and tetra used similar forms of this language, russian, icelandic, checz and finnish. latin is another catagory

  • @tony19893994 It has been said time and time again that it is Welsh on here, but still people claim it as another language and sometimes coined with the phrase 'My cousin/brother/aunty/uncle is fluent in celtic' or some other idiotic sentence.

Irish gaelic has a tiny amount of similarities, very very tiny and none are present in this piece. Because the languages are related, it doesn't mean that they are easily mistaken. Welsh is not a slavic nordic language, but celtic...

  • @daviesboi1 i did not say it was any slavic language merely that the times the language was spoken mainstream it was a related language. and there are similaities between irish and welsh gaelic that mean the same so from a logical stand point when even one similarity is present so true is it that both languages are present. Commune to ireland and learn their gaelic the go to wales and you'll be amazed with how youre able to converse with them.

  • @tony19893994 Welsh isn't Gaelic, it's Brythonic.

I've been to Ireland and heared it spoken and I live in Wales. The similarities are only technical. I would not and can not understand anything that is in the Irish language

  • @tony19893994 Welsh isn't a member of the Goidelic languages actually, Welsh is Brythonic. There are similarities yes but I just thought I'd point out that Welsh isn't a Gaelic language.

  • @ManamoPrime Spot on.

  • this song honered the soldiers that fell in battle forwhat they belived in, god rest there hungarian souls!

  • ODST! Feet first into Hell!

  • so wait this in german?

  • @MrChach1ng Gaelic, ancient Irish

  • @Celticgammer Welsh, Cymraeg. Iawn? :)

  • ODST MOTHER FUCKERS!!!1

  • Is this a Band or just this one song? =(

  • Great song!

  • If you could (and if you're even bothering to read this), please release the ODST version to make all of the ODST-lovers happy... Please.

  • @medivalme I don't even love ODST, in fact i've never played beyond Halo 1 never really cared for the game line, or FPS really.. but I must agree, PLEASE PLEASE RELEASE THE ODST VERSION OF THIS SONG... and not all those crappy edits with the extra music between the lyrics just to make the song longer.. the song as it is in the trailer, drums and all! PLEASE! i'll give ya a cookie!

  • This kinda reminds me of Assassin's Creed. Amazing song. Can't stop listening.

  • And my army of brothers went over the hilltops, drenched in blood we may be... but fighting is all left to me... Together with my army of brothers... down we fall... darkness in all... through hell

  • One word. Goosebumps.

  • Dweud a ddoi di eto n’ol Cariad bach er cilio’n ffo Nid yw’r haf I mi Ddim ond hirlwm Er pan gollais ti translates to... Say you will not return Sweetheart, since you flew away I have no summer Only the worst of winter Since I lost you.
  • Why is this all about halo odst? this song is used in many places, it is in lotr 3 pippin sings is and its incredible

  • @HDStasHD Are you certain that this is the song? I searched for pippen's song and lament pippen and got a different song. I would like to hear more versions of this, please let me know what to look for.

  • @HDStasHD Check for "We Are ODST Trailer", you'll understand why. ;) The version used in that trailer is just better according to a lot of people, me included.

  • @HDStasHD probably because ODST popularized the song

  • @HDStasHD Erhm... that's not quite the same song... That song uses lyrics from a little poem in one of the LOTR books that the hobbits sing, and I'm guessing the sound of the song, while similar to Lament, is not the same song but rather something composed by Howard Shore.

ODST on the other hand made a darker version that made a T.V. debut for a live-action commercial. Pretty good Live-Action by vid-game standards, and the song was popular.

  • The best 4:19 minutes of my life!

  • THIS VERSION IS BETTER THAN THE ODST ONE!

  • reminds me of ODST and i listen to this when im designing my Halo Pepakura helmet

  • wish had credit card to download this D:

  • This is way better than the already excellent ODST version.

  • ok so i don't have an ipod but i want to get the album can i get it any where else?

  • Is this Gaelic?

  • @wolfboy18 its welsh in the celtic language

  • why did halo have to muck up this song now its forever known as that halo song by 10 year olds with no taste or class

  • @killgore333333

    Agreed.

When I was ten, I thought exactly that.

  • @killgore333333 I'm personally thanking Halo for using this song. I've loved Celtic music for a while, but I never really started looking beyond the few bands that I liked until just recently. Halo is what opened me up to LoA and for that I thank them.

  • @dagniranum never thank halo bungie is too upity as it is.

  • Lament

  • Breathtaking!

  • it's in Welsh

  • I love this song

  • Six people have no taste

  • The Celts were a civilisation of people, Britons, Irish, Scots, [Picts?] Gauls [of France] and I'm sure a few others. My point is, that the Irish were and are Celts, and thus Celtic. No offence to anyone.

    @omar3rd: [good hearted] LOL

@hamesmaxwell: I reckon this version blows odst version out of the water... I personally love this dreamy style celtic music...

    @ITSbigwillystyle: I agree :)

  • its freaking irish you r tards

  • @325691000 no it aint....

  • @325691000 ....how stupid are u to get that wrong? to begin with it says celtic version in the name, and the band itself isnt irish, neither is the song.

  • @325691000 ...how stupid are you to get that wrong, it even says celtic (welsh) in the name.

  • Keep cool ; ) @iwanfon1

Celtic, Irish, Ungarian or whatever. It's all the same if you don't understand the Language ; )

    It's all " HOY MEETS BOY !!! " , Guys ; D

  • @NeoTodesklingel sorry, i overreacted there, i'll admit it, ive been waiting for assassins creed brotherhood to arrive since friday, so im a bit angry and crazy. But ye ur right, if u dont understand it is the same, but fortunatley i am welsh :D

  • @NeoTodesklingel All the same? Well, no, it isn't. The whole greatness of this song is that its Celtic.

  • LOL My names Aden :D WIN 4 ME!!!

  • dea-amhrán

  • @wassup048 Why have people marked this as spam? This is the welsh and english translation. Fucking morons. Thumps up Wassup's post.

  • When i get my ocarina im going to get good at it and become a guru, then im going to see if this will sound good on the ocarina... To me it sounds like it would!

  • The ODST version is SOOO much better then this.

I want to buy that version.

  • @londonnight117 That version wasnt a full song, The version in ODST was the full version, there has been someone who has edited the song and its well put to gether and its like 5 minutes i think. But you can hear some fading out and fading in. But other then that thats the closest thing to an official one you can get.

  • Amazing

  • Dweud a ddoi di eto n'ol Cariad bach er cillo'n ffo Dweud a ddoi di eto n'ol Cariad bach er cillo'n ffo Nid yw'r haf l mi, Ddim ond hirlwm er pan gollais ti. Say you will not return, sweetheart, since you flew away. Say you will not return, sweetheart, since you flew away. I have no Summer Only the worst of Winter, since I lost you. <3
  • @strangexchild srry i copied this only to make this easier to read the lyrics

  • @strangexchild Cymru am byth!

  • this voice is that of one thousand angels singing in harmony

  • Hey is this version of the song actually used in the game during battle sequences in any of the Halo games ? u know as a background theme ? it kinda sounds familiar (some parts of this song) during gameplay ..

  • @SirFragal0t no it was sung by someone else but this the same song

  • Hey is this version of the song actually used in the game during battle sequences in any of the Halo games ? u know as a background theme ?

  • Celtics? I knew it! I knew this song was too good to have been made by humans! This is Black Magic!!!

  • @omar3rd It's Welsh.

  • @omar3rd rlly? ur gonna say this is black magic? its unbelievable tallent masterd with a gift from god himself, black magic hardly

  • @omar3rd lol, Celts WERE human, in case you didn't know... First civilization in Britain...

  • @omar3rd lol wow you know that thats irish right?

  • @omar3rd I resent that D:

  • @omar3rd It is Heresy I tell Ya !!!

  • @omar3rd no black magic but yes The most dark black magic that you can imagine

    MAY GOD HELP US ALL!!!!

  • Some interesting translations here... munchinkicker got it dead on, it's Welsh.. but I don't think the singer is a native speaker. It's similar to a Welsh poem called "Beth yw'r haf i mi" (what is the summer to me). Rough translation: "Dweud y ddoi di eto n’ol (Say you'll come back again) Cariad bach er cilio’n ffo (My love, since you've gone away) Nid yw’r haf i mi (The summer is not for me) Ddim ond hirlwm (Only the long winter) Er pan gollais ti" (Since I lost you)
  • i found this on spore galactic adventures but its called "angelic dream"

  • so beautiful this song is great shout and to the assamite antitibru vampire clan.

  • I prefer this version and the spore version over the halo version because a "lament" is usually sung by a woman and not a male voice.

  • @MuscularRock it's a woman who sing on the odst version, an old one but a woman in aniway.

  • This is the Original version, or one of the original versions, it was remixed for the commercial to make it work better with the action in it

  • @ClearCollector01 er... I don't think that the song for "We are ODST" is a version of this song... The lyrics is different for one thing. The tune just happens to sound similar

  • @ANACONDA360 The lyrics are different because they translated it from Gaelic to Hungarian.

  • @SgtWubbles It was translated to Welsh, sorry, was thinking of the voices spoke in the trailer. Not the song.

  • @SgtWubbles The lyrics are about two completely separate things. "The tune just happens to sound similar"

  • i personally think this version is just as goo with the chicks voice than the odst nigger voice one

  • Where can I get the ODST Trailer Version?

  • we r odst

  • This is Gaelic.

  • Hail HalO! What would i give to live in such a world.. glory pff glory does not exist on our Earth anymore, shame on it.

  • this is better than the odst version

  • this isn't gaelic, i am irish and we learn it in school and i recognise not one word of this.

  • @SporeGladiator

Thats why the title says CELTIC ....

  • @XxMalarkixX 'Celtic' is not a language ;) its an ethnic subcatagory consisting of the Celtic tribes of Europe (who descend from the Indo-Europeans). I should know- my whole whole family on both sides trace our lines back in the British Isles from the 1800s to before the Viking Age. There exist dialects of Gaelic spoken today that I'm aware of: Irish Gaelic, Highland Gaelic, and Middle Gaelic, and they don't all sound the same. That might be why SporeGladiator didn't recognize it :)

  • oh well instead of paying for it in Itunes, you can use another software i used, to download it, and hear it completetly free without spendind money....

the program its DVDVideoSoft, maybe alot of people dislike it, but, if you know how to use it well, you become on pro of a kind like me

  • Holy fuck, that's beautiful...

  • This is very clearly Welsh (Cymraeg).

"Dweud a ddoi di eto n’ol

    Cariad bach er cilio’n ffo

    Nid yw’r haf i mi

    Ddim ond hirlwm

    Er pan gollais ti"

The lyrics are different in the ODST version but both use the same tune and language.

  • This songs just Amazing. But guys, For all of you argueing out there for what language the song is in, There are several versions of it out there in different languages, So dont get your panties in a wad about people saying its "Welsh" or "Russian" or some other language. Im Swedish and yet i hear words from my own language, yet to me the rest of the song is jibberish, but guess what? In Welsh it sounds normal, It also sounds normal in Hungarian, So get over it, the songs ment to be translated.

  • One of the Light of Aidan guys, Daniel Lozinski just released his own solo e.p. on itunes. checkout his myspace also myspace.danielloz

  • Reminds me a bit of Dragon Age: Origins.

  • @TheLightofaidan

I know a million slobbering Halo fanboys must berate you with this question daily, but I must ask, what is the official designation for / where can I purchase the version of this song that was in the ODST live action commercial.

  • @TheLightofaidan Myspace? no it's Facebook now! where have you've been the past year and a half

  • @Danny619Chargers

Last three or four years surely?

  • When was this song actually released, Im talking about lyrics and the melody since this was in a movie released in 2004 and I was surprised to find it in the Halo ODST trailer.

  • do to war our language was lost so thanks these people for remeber them at least

  • Ta se mo fhuil na hEirinn :) - It is my blood of Ireland.

This is definitely Irish Gaelic, the ODST one features modern Welsh, which is a related language but is from a different branch of the Celtic languages. Like how Spanish and Portuguese are Ibero-Romance, and French is in its own part of the Romance languages.

  • I am sorry LOA but the ODST version blows this out of the water. The ODST version simply creates such a haunting memory for the listener -- the bagpipes, the marching drum beats, the singer's lamenting tone, etc.

Please tell me where I can purchase that version.

  • @jamesmaxwell : Yeah, I'd just like to point out that the only thing this song and Halo 3: ODST have in common is the melody. I don't know why people keep thinking that, or why halopedia printed incorrect lyrics, but the guy who wrote the thing has said as much.

He was contacted to produce the song based on a mor martial version of this melody, and was told to do it in welsh. He did that, and the lyrics say nothing about running off a hillside into hell.

Either way, this is a great song.

  • @jamesmaxwell theirs absolutely no music that you would hear from a marching drum line in the odst song the only drums in it sound to my like timpani

  • @jamesmaxwell You know what makes the ODST version all the more haunting/awesome? The sounds of the people in the background. I'm not even a Halo fan and I've watched that video over and over just because it is simply interesting.

    It's great!

  • You forgot the fact that they also ripped several sound effects from various other forms of media :D

I wonder if the heavy breathing from CoD was paid for... Hmm...

  • @jamesmaxwell i actually like this one better.

i think this song calls for a womens voice.

    seems to go smoother

  • @jamesmaxwell I don't think you can.... :(

  • @jamesmaxwell you cant they only recorded those parts for the commercial unfortunately

  • @jamesmaxwell dude the ODST one repeats it self, this and the ODST version aren't the best if you actually heard the real thing you wound no that haunting memory and if the video do-sent have any thing to do with a subject that you want to talk about then GTFO and ind yourself another video

  • @jamesmaxwell if you figure out where to get it, you have to let us know XD

  • The one in the ODST trailer is in Russian because it sounds more intense, but the people in the trailer are speaking Hungarian. Original (this one) is Welsh Gaelic.

  • Sorry to burst your bubble butt this is Gaelic, which is not welsh. They are two different languages, just wiki them.

The ODST one is in Welsh which uses different sounds and consonants than Irish. But VERY similar syntax.

  • Are you guys going to release the version that played during the Halo commercial?

  • I appreciate the effort you all are making to give proper credit to the language in which this song is sung, but honestly does it matter? The fact is this is the type of a song anyone can appreciate as epic and emotional music, the type of music that gives you goosebumps, the type that can make a stranger break down and cry.

  • @0rch0l0d3s Your post translates as "Don't try to be educated just shut and dumbly enjoy instead of deepening your appreciation."
