This is eerily lovely and very, very cool...One of my nicknames has always been, "Dark Star" actually so as a Delerium fan who has missed out on this song until now--I thought I would give it a listen!
I can't really put my finger on it but to me this song has a scarily eerie and omnious ambience about it which is strangely alluring. Everytime it finishes I can't help pressing the 'Replay' button. Kudos to Delerium for making this precious gem.

Faces, Forms & Illusions is an album by the Canadian ambient/electronic music group Delerium that was released on January 6, 1989 on the Dossier label.
The album was re-issued in 1997 on Cleopatra Records with the bonus track "Dark Star" added and "Hidden Mask" removed.
All songs written by Bill Leeb, except 'Monuments of Deceit' and 'Mecca', which were co-written by Bill Leeb and Michael Balch.
@floatingcompassmedia ...ah, but a correction: there are no such things as 'jungles'. that term is now considered a relic from an imperialist, capitalist, insensitive past. What you actually heard was a rain forest... tung'n'chic.
My version of Faces, Forms and Illusions is different. This song is only 5:18 on it and the last track is almost 20 minutes, with three songs blended into it.
Even Dark Star on it sounds different, this version is way better.
@MrNotbadyou So it was the original 1989 release I assume? I was under the impression that Dark Star was not on the original pressings of Faces, Forms, and Illusions. Dark Star was supposed to be a bonus track on the re-releases. I didn't know that there were different edits of Dark Star. You say your version sounds different...would it be too much trouble to describe the differences? You've piqued my curiosity. xD
I thought so too, but it's on this release I have. It's odd because in my WMP library, the cover art is different and the date says 1988.
It's not uncommon, since Delerium and Front Line Assembly albums have had history of improper labelling or track listing. As for the differences, you'd have to hear it yourself somehow. There's some similarities but this version is more ambient.
look into Delerium's other CD's. Dark Star and Inside the Chamber are off of Faces, Forms, and Illusions. Morpheus, Syrophenikan, Spiritual Archives, and Stone Tower are other good CDs. my personal favorite out of those is Spiritual Archives, it's dark vocal-less music that sounds like it came right out of some gothic horror film (but it isn't too over the top, it's possible to relax to.)
wow. ok, then you might like Stalker by lustmord. it's a lot like Spiritual Archives. you might also like robert rich's music. look him up, I like his Strata and Echo of Small Things albums. Nine Inch Nails has a few really nice instrumental songs, I recommend A Warm Place off of The Downward Spiral and you might be interested in his Ghosts' album as it is purely instrumental.
forgot to mention 'Corona Radiata' by Nine Inch Nails and '2nd Lovestory' by 500won. 500won actually has a couple nice songs, if you can manage to find them. don't think they're on youtube. i know a few of his are on lastfm. if you listen to them and like them just message me and i can email them to you as I managed to get a copy of his CD from a friend.
@Trancer93 I looked into Biosphere's music and I must say that Cirque is probably my favorite. The only album I really did not like was the one where all the track titles are in French. Not sure the name of the CD off the top of my head but I felt that that one was a huge let down.
i have! i've listened to the CD in its entirity many times. i downloaded delerium's discog as well. ;) I think I prefer Dark Star to Inside The Chamber in terms of ambient works; though both are amazing nonetheless. did you get the feeling that Dark Star was out of place on Faces, Forms, and Illusions?
I've always thought that this and 'Inside the Chamber' and 'Strangeways' were both out of place on the album, due to the ambiance in which they are formed, unlike the other masterpieces.
now that i think about it, you're absolutely right. all three of which are oddly placed on the cd. i always thought dark star was added on as a bonus track cuz it was basically a b-side or an "extra track" if you will, from the making of another cd, so Delerium just decided to stick it on there. i'm just glad it got released along with the other ambient pieces!
It's good. Rmeinds me of some creepy Half Life music.

Cirque is definantly a good one, no doubt.
But the one I find most dissapointing with Gier's work is 'Autour de la Lune', its drone nature, for me, takes away any pleasure from the album.
Trancer93 2 years ago
ok. xD just thought i would offer.

this song is so out of place on Faces, Forms, and Illusions. xD still probably my favorite track though. it's mind-blowing.
