Very difficult to brew with oats, but we 'figured out a way'. WHAT? No sir, the minimicro brewery near me (in England) make an oat stout, and its one of the best, so don't pretend like you are innovating anything or reviving somethingg because brewers here, and America have been doing this for a much longer time than Coors I am sure.
I had a Blue Moon that came out of a boxed "Beers from Around the World" package. And yeah, it's appearance would have you suggest it to be good.....but it's lacking body, smell, and flavor just like the macros it's owned by.
From what i observed, it seems that the people who are obsessed with Blue Moon are college kids who want to act like they know what a good beer is. I've never heard anyone with experience with beers recommend it. Because the stuff really ain't THAT good, I actually find it to be rather unsmooth. If you want a good Belgian white try Alagash, now that's a good brew!
you guys are all funny "this is true craft" "This isn't" waaaa waaa waa
Drink what you friggin like and stop worrying about semantics - we are talking about beer - its not that serious, people. I like craft beer just like the next guy, but I'm not militant about it like some people apparently are. some of your attitudes make it embarrasing to be a craft junkie.
@ethans83 You are very correct on that. The average customer is an idiot and would be tricked by this wording on the pack. How about you actually watch the video before you comment on it Ethan. The CEO of Coors says in the video it is a Craft beer. He says it is an unfiltered belgian wheat beer VERBATIM. Comment on that tough guy the facts are right in the video. So either the he is lying or the package is. Looks like you are clearly mistaking their claim here.
@kevn0007 It's a slip by the CEO in the interview; that is not their official position. Their official claim is that it's Belgian STYLE. It's right on the box. If ANYONE is stupid enough to watch this whole film (I have) and come away thinking that Blue Moon is actually Belgian, than they have bigger problems than beer identification. BTW, my name isn't Ethan.
blue moon is mediocre, honeymoon is ok, harvest sucks the big one. They are definately no craft brewery. They are closer to crap brewery than craft. This is an unbiased opinion I have tried them all bottle or draft this stuff is crap.
Just because Jim has been very successful for a craft brewer doesn't mean he's a sellout. What, are you saying when Stone breaks out to national distribution they're going to be fakes too?
Try Honey Porter or Chocolate Bock, then tell me it's not good stuff.
Jim Koch is not a craft brewer. He is owner of a marketing company. That's why his beer is inconsistent. I won't drink contract brews & you shouldn't either. Stone's brews their own beer. That's a bad analogy. You think Fritz Maytag from Anchor brewing would let another brewery make his beer? No way.
I like to think of it as brewer's variation. If you try a flagship Rock Bottom brew from San Jose and another from La Jolla, they're going to taste different. You could say that it's inconsistency, or creative variation. I still consider Rock Bottom to be craft, even though now they need corporate machinery to grow as a business.
I also try not to argue with my taste buds. Something about Big 3 brews always tastes a little off. If that void can be filled with Old Fezziweg, so be it.
I am the Distiller for a small Texas Distillery. We hand craft every batch we make. Saying Blue Moon is hand crafted is the same as saying Cointreau is an Artisanal spirit.
Drink locally, think globally. If you drink a beer that is brewed in Co. and you live in CA., then it took a lot of fuel to truck it to you. Chances are, you can find a better brew at your local brew pub.
I like blue moon......its one of the few mainstream beers that I will actually drink and enjoy.......but by all means....it is not the best beer i have ever had....and it is not a craft beer....any beer made by miller, coors or AB-InBev can not be considered a craft beer
Blue Moon is OK, but I prefer an authentic Belgian White. Notice how every time you get this on tap they have to slap an orange piece in there. If you have to add fruit to your beer - it's cheating.
True. I absolutely hate when restraunts feel the need to add some form of citrus on the rim of my beer. A true wheat beer should have a gorgeous head and with sexy lacing. The acidic acid is going to ruin any head that that beer could have. Shame on you, pop culture!
that 6 pack doesnt desirve to sit next to fat tire.

If you like Blue Moon, do yourself a favor and seek out Hoegaarden, a much better witbier that actually is brewed in Belgium. Fuck the macros.

@tmcmanus916 mostly to secure a position I guess, I bet working for a macro is pretty competitive just because of the salary.

@kevn0007 Well, it does say "Belgian STYLE" on the box. Not that I defend Coors for any reason, but you clearly are mistaking their claim here.

Maybe beer should be judged for its merits (or lack thereof). It's not a great beer; I don't care who owns it.
