ok...i will ride smart from now on.... i didnt know lance had won king of mountain jersey's....
when he did those breakaways in the mountains...he was not spinning a high gear...he was taking the painnnnn...and more than anyone else can take as well...
Lance didn't get king of the Mountain Jersey because you are only allowed to have one jersey and Yellow > KoM.... otherwise he would have had a bunch. obviously pmay222 you have no idea what you are talking about. Lance was one of the best climbers ever did you miss his breakaways on climbs, to win those tours?
well...spin if you want...but drop out the bunch and your race is over.... if the pack is disappearing over the hill...nobody is going to wait while you spin in an easy gear.... how many king of the mountain jerseys did lance aquire...? i do not doubt this fella's knowledge.... but you just gotta TAKE THE PAINNNN if you want to hang on to the bunch
@pmay222 Go for it. take the pain while the rest of us out sprint you at the end. Theres is a point where it's not just about being able to take the pain but also riding smart.
Alberto Contador used a 34/30 up the steep stuff which will probably handle up to 1 in 5 at a knackering race pace (I assume top climbers race at about 8mph up a 1 mile 1 in 5 which would reduce me to a wheezing jelly legged heap on the floor). That is still a huge gear for your average sunday afternoon rider though! A 22/34 MTB gear will give you a decent workout if you're not a pro racer and really light.
this is the problem with youtube, they allow ignorant idiots to piss on peoples parade and than take off, with theyre comment never going away. you talk shit about some guy you dont know and attack his credibility while you what? smoke a bowl, drink a beer and basically amount to nothing. chris carmichael was a member of the first u.s team to race in the tour de france, he raced in the 84 olympics. he has trained lance armstrong, george hincapie, saku koivu and swimmer ed moses.... >
I would think that you should be in shape yourself or have some credibility in the sport in order to coach Lance Armstrong. This guy looks like an average person who happen to sit on a bike once in a while
hey guys, I've just uploaded a tour / overview video of my dad's new Carradice of Nelson bag on his touring bike. Help me to view it and don't forget to subscribe, comment and rate!
I was told that Carmichael never even coached lance. It was a great hoodwink and it bolstered Carmichael's business that lance so happen to have a certain amount of financial interest in. Big MIg was the guy who really brought the high cadence climbing to the modern era of tour winners..
I seem to be more like Jan Ulrich, I start losing long term power north of 90rpm, although there's still decent sprint power up at high revs. Maybe when I lose some more fat and hence reciprocating mass on my thighs that will improve.
@Chiliwacko in 1993 he was the UCI Road World Champion, in 2009 he was on the podium in the tour de France and he also did ok in between, thats a long time to be on the juice or maybe he just a very talented hard working rider and thats what I believe
he's a little too chubby to explain climbing convincingly ...

drop into a lower gear, spam the cadence - watch everyone get left in the dust

hrdclimber 1 month ago
@hrdclimber The gradient is 800 / 14000 = 0.057 or 5.7%.

Those road bikes don't give me enough gears to spin up steep hills! Bring on the triple for anything more than 1 in 10 or so.
TimpBizkit 1 month ago
I'd be spinning up hills too if I was on a Serotta!

I think a steep hill is one of two things a Sprint for short hills 50metres-100metres or a jog for 3km+ (like springwood road (windy part))

Most 2 chainring road bikes have rubbish gearing for any 'real' hill. You can't keep the cadence up sometimes unless you get a triple

@Chiliwacko why do you think lance was dopping???
master121231 3 months ago
@Chiliwacko you can say that for basso, virenque, ulrich ,amilton, landis, beloki, rico, rasmusen, pantani... but if he was doped it wasn't EPO
