  • why did eddie sing this sound so slugged and sloppy?

  • Oh my god. The outro. <3

  • Awesome song.. I love it

  • i love the papyrus font, too

  • I'd say he got the lyrics pretty accurate considering the fact Eddie was answering a audience members question asking for what are the lyrics and he responded with "Wait? There's lyrics?"

  • Such a beautiful melody <3

  • Im pretty sure a lot of these lyrics are wrong. No offence like, I wouldnt like to try and figure them out :)

  • nothing quite like good old fashioned bubble gum music.

  • what is 50/50 i have no idea

  • @paulinaz87 a movie lol

  • Just Watched 50/50 and this was the Perfect song to End the Movie With......PJ Rules.........

  • Damn thats a great solo

  • That guitar solo rips my heart out. It's something Mr. Hendrix would have approved of.

  • this is why i dont listen to rap.

  • make me fries

  • this song made me cry at the end of 50/50 because 50/50 really was like my life because i had cancer a few years ago and my grandpa died of cancer last year and this movie made me think of him. this was the best movie i have ever seen.

  • 50/50 :)

  • Wow, you nailed it...but. It's the emotion, that's all of Vedder...there doesn't even to be lyrics...how he pours it out...it is the one thing I love about his versions...He relives this shit like he's there

  • papyrus ^^

  • If this song doesn't touch you...if it's "indecipherable" to you then you don't know good music, you don't get musical expression and you either are too stupid to comprehend Eddie's lyrics or you have no heart or soul!!

  • Make me cry, Mike.

  • This is one of the dumbest tunes in history. I rename it 'Indecipherable'.

  • @krslmb75 A closed mind is like a closed book. Fucking useless.

  • Yea this puts an end to making up what it sounds like for lyrics! That was 10 years of listening and never knowing lol

  • THANK GOD THERE ARE LYRICS TO GO WITH THIS SONG!!!!! without them I would not be able to understand a word he said!!! Such a good song though :)

  • @Irish33cream The music is what gets me.It is so meaningful and full of soul. It kicks ass!

  • im already in love with joseph gordon levitt then they ended 50/50 with my favorite band? couldnt be better<3

  • i will dont worry

  • love this song. i get all misty and stuff.

  • Yellow Ledbetter?

  • @ferhu791 Eddie Vedder admits that he changes the lyrics and meaning of the song when he performs it, but he wrote the song with one story in mind, which he told at a concert in Newark, New Jersey on August 7, 2008. He asked if anyone had any questions, and a fellow asked what the lyrics to "Yellow Ledbetter" were. Instead of going word for word, Eddie simply told the story of the song.

  • @ferhu791 The song is about a friend's brother, Tim Ledbetter. His brother was killed in the war, and takes the meaning from the "yellow letter" officially notifying of a soldier's death.

  • To yocorr.... that's really sweet. No joke.

  • @juanitosjams Thanks :)

  • My dad doesn't know it, but this is the song me and him are going to dance to at my wedding :) He loves Pearl Jam and I grew up listening to them because of them and some of my fondest memories with my father all involve great music from the 90's <3

  • @yocorrocontrajeras SO CUTE!!!! CONGRATS!!!

  • @yocorrocontrajeras him* not them

  • @yocorrocontrajeras When are you getting married?

  • @Tigerballer122 Spring next year

  • @yocorrocontrajeras very ,very cool...your dad will be proud I'm sure

  • @tribbleville Thank you :)

  • Uhm, Not trying to troll, but, Yellow ledbetter doesnt have a written lyrics, eddie vedder changes the words every time he sings it, other than some parts. But, read there book. It tells you all about it. It was a riff that mike started to play, and then eddie joined in, the the rest did....And they made it into a song later on...

  • @wyattsrules Well at list for this version, this are the lyrics!!

  • @MarionBugg17 I beg to differ, at the beginning, its ON A CEILING not un-sealed..

  • @wyattsrules it is unsealed...meanin a letter thats un sealed, the sotry is about a yellow evelope mailed out to families when someone is killed in war, the symbology of yellow l"edb"etter is that is the same as recieving led as in like a bullet, or something that kills u.

  • how can you hate this song

  • Such a great guitar riff.

  • :O

  • ok dudes,it's like fuck it all,and like I do give a shit at the same time , just probably, don't have the balls to admit it.

  • It was a great choice to end 50/50 with this song!!

  • @juanitosjams What the fuck is 50/50?

    I'm here for Pearl Jam.

  • @BCShimDaddy That movie with Seth Rogen.

  • @malmalspur Ok thanks.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

    SMOKE WEED!

  • @Joseywade11 well said my friend :) Im glad someone u get it

  • i hear Guns N Roses and Jimi Hendrix..oddly, two of Pearl Jam's biggest inspirations:P

    love this song, regardless

  • God I miss my friends...

  • I can fall asleep to this song :)

  • 5050!

  • @clintwalkeruno I totally agree 100%

  • that is beautiful. thank you PJ.

  • oooohhh! Its not ever "boxer"( its box OR) did'nt change the lyrics, official lyrics are the words he sings everytime. May be more f_uped then the last, but Its always been "in a BOX or in a BAG" There is no medafor. boxorinabag!!!!

  • This album will never grow old for me! I still get excited whenever I hear these songs!

  • can you see me on the porch hitting my vain with the next hit off herion...whatwhat

  • Great song!! Especially that episode in friends!(: I love being 14 and apriciating this music!

  • This is like when I found out that ina gadda da vida was in the garden of eden. I had no idea these were the lyrics.

  • It's funny how such mindlessly stupid lyrics sound so damn beautiful.

  • anyone who dislikes this really doesnt understand music

  • turn up that intro......waaaaaay up....

  • Its Pearl Jam damnit! It should have 50 million views!

  • this song is one of the greatest songs ever

  • Another great one!!

  • Man Eddie must've been blazed off his tits when he wrote this.

  • On August 7, 2008, at a solo performance in Newark, New Jersey at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Vedder took a question from the audience requesting that he explain the meaning of "Yellow Ledbetter". He then explained the lyrics I suggested two years ago.

  • you guys are dumb this song aint about his friend brother or whatever ya'll think itz about his girlfriend leaving him cause he was all hooked up on hairoine so she left him a letter.....duhhhhh

  • sounds like hendrix, love it

  • @TheSeabass87 tell me about it, I just picture jim henrix playing alone with eddie vedor on the same stage. This is one all time favorite songs.

  • {Guitar Solo}

  • heard it a hundred times...never fully understood the lyrics a hundred times. lol. thx for clarifying

  • love it herd it on cold case

  • @Fattyxoxo11 cold cse is a digrace to this song. they should never have used it.

  • @bfudge85 listen cold case was a good show and this song fitted perfectly with the episode

  • I like my lyrics better but thanks just the same.

  • there is a guy from Chile who does a great imitation of this.

  • So not what I thought. lol The lyrics I invented in my head were more interesting. Think I'll stick with them. Still love the song.

  • Soo that's what he's saying! haha

  • this song makes me so profoundly sad

  • this song is a very personal song for eddie i have heard it live and it is quit diff almost every time i hear it the thing about eddie v is he wants you to make this song about whatever you want to to over annalize this song ruins its true meaning ...how ever the over all meaning is about the loss of his friends brother

  • the whole songs about him sitting on his porch

  • This is a song that the listener can't ever figure out the lyrics..which actually make no sense, so you are forced to appreciate and listen to the music..and make up your own words!!

  • the thing is, there's no way of knowing if these are the right words because eddie's not quite speaking english

  • Yellow ledbetter doesnt have a lirics, only Eddie knows it, it was just suppose to be a simple guitar riff, butt then Eddie started mumbling words, and it became one of there greatest, he changes the words everytime he sings it, read his book.

  • Thanks never knew what he was saying...

  • Yeah these lyrics are wrong for sure.

  • @mdoveification no theyre not. he changes them almost every concert he plays, these are the lyrics for the recorded version. this is the recorded version. see the connection?

  • i found out about this song my hippie teacher would play this during class

    thanx burtch

  • Dude i've been trying to find this song forever.

  • the guitar at the end and the beginning reminds me of hendrix

  • There,, now i have something to listen to at school :)

  • Cool vid, but the Oooowwwwwwwwww is kind of unnecessary

  • I love this song but i don't understand it?

  • All Right!!! 200th person to hit the "Like" button. But WTF is up with the 1 "Dislike"? I mean, how the hell can you not love this song by Pearl Jam? Has Jimi Hendrix in it, don't you think?

  • thats the best thing about this song....its whatever you feel at the time you listen to it. It will fit any mood you're in and its a mirror image of how you feel. so enjoy it and let it speak to you what you want......or keep going back and forth about the lyrics..lol

  • @GhOAsTs AMEN!!

  • @blackwater20 No, he doesn't.

  • @ineedausernameplz I've listened countless times and he just extends "Or"

  • 1 dislike = 1 moron -.- ♥Perl Jam♥ Eddie♥

  • this songs is so beautiful and a lot of meanings. Thanks for everything.

  • Good song......!!! Yehaa.....

  • what tard makes up random lyrics lol

  • wow!! you guys....so weird that boxer or the bag and box or the bag can be so similar, doesnt it mean the same to the living? Loss is profound...in all its entirety, it hurts.....dont we all wish we could give an anthem like this to those we have lost....

  • Thanks for helping me break 50k views guys!

  • @ineedausernameplz if not for ur vid i would always think he was singing about two sides of a letter he recieved from his estranged daughter!!!!! ha ha

  • So sorry for your loss, I am sure your brother is at a better place right now my friend. Native Americans have a beautiful saying when a loved one passes away. I don't recall it word for word but it is about grieving, they say to grieve your loved one but then stop because then your loved one will not be able to move on in the other life as they will be concentrated on you grieving on their loss instead just hold on to the good memories...blessed be )0(

  • ha! 1 person dislikes this??? well we dislike you too. Pearl Jam!!! \m/

  • Is that Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughn on guitar?

  • @edctgbujm123 its Mike McCready

  • @edctgbujm123 - You must be joking? Stevie died YEARS ago & as much as I like Mike McCready, he's no Stevie Ray!

  • @edctgbujm123 why yes of course with the fabulous Mr. Freddie fucking Mercury on vocals

  • ..one dislike.

    ..one lonely little hater.

  • i havent heard this song sung the same way twice. The new Pearl Jam XM station plays live versions and every one I have heard so far the lyrics are similar but always different. Any of the lyrics I have seen written on Lyrics sites are all wrong too. I also believe in true Rock and Roll fashion he purposely sings it differently.

  • grats on 40k views man

  • RIP Brett Kane. I found this song in your jeep in the cd player. You died five years ago today. I play this song on the anniversary of your death and on your birthday. I played this song when I spread your ashes. I played this song in your garage as I packed up your belongings. I played this song as I cried on the floor going thru all your things. I played this song to my son when he was born; a son you never got to meet but who bares your name. I miss you my brother, my friend

  • @URUROTRASH

    :'( I'm so sorry!!!

  • @URUROTRASH Sorry for your loss bro... Fucking amazing song

  • @URUROTRASH really? dam eh sorry :(

  • @URUROTRASH Right on man. True brother ( I say this with a tear in my eye) Only because I had this brother too

  • @URUROTRASH im sorry for your loss and best wishes. hang in there bro

  • @URUROTRASH God Bless You.

  • Awesome Guitar Solo gives me chills

  • FUCKING DEEP MAN.,,.,,.,.

  • YOU ALL KNOW, THAT WHAT HE SAID, NOBODY, NO ONE REALLY KNOWS... CAN YOU SEE IT? OHHH, NO YOU CAAAN...

  • U the boxer

  • by far my favourite song

    love Pearl Jam

  • your lyrics are not accurate, but it is a badass jam

  • badass!

  • Eddie Vedder Asshole, at least you got the songs back story right

  • Ah yeah, can you see them out on the porch? Yeah, but they don't wave.

But I see them round the front way. Yeah.

And I know, and I know. I don't want to stay.

    Make me cry...

  • @melvianna what does that really mean?

  • Unsealed on a porch a letter sat.

Then you said, "I wanna leave it again."

Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand. And on the sand I wanna leave it again. Yeah.

On a weekend I wanna wish it all away, yeah.

And they called and I said that "I want what I said" and then I call out again.

And the reason oughta' leave her calm, I know.

I said "I know what I wear not the boxer or the bag."

  • Wicked 5/5 (Check My Pearl Jam Accapella Out :P)

  • There is a lot of controversy about the lyrics to this song . I've found several different versions . I believe it's in keeping with tthr great tradition of rock n roll that it's always been difficult to make out the lyrics because it's more about the feel of the music and how it makes you feel .

  • @losteroni Couldn't have said it better, my friend.

  • I'm sorry but your lyrics are wrong, the song is about the lead singers best friend. His friend had a brother die in the first Iraq war in the 90's and the lead singer was with his friend when he got the tragic news. His friend broke down crying. This is why you can't understand the lyrics. Also the words are not Boxer or Bag it is about weather his brother is coming home in a box or a bag. After the friend learned of his brothers death he and the lead singer went for a walk and came

  • up to a house on the block that had a huge American Flag flying on the porch. The friend waved to the people standing on the porch and the people of the house did not wave back because of the friends grungey apperance...If you dont believe this is true look it up.

  • @MaktG11 sorry your wrong, in later years he would change the lyrics constantly live. and yes he did change the lyrics alot and pertaining them to the war and he did change the lyrics at time to say "i think about him when i go to bed, will he come back in a box or bag" but when the first recorded the song for "ten" vedder didnt have any lyrics, hence why vedder, ament and mcready all co wrote the song

  • @MaktG11 mcready quote: That was written around the time of the first record I think that was the second thing Ed and I wrote together. It came out of a jam in the studio and Ed didn't really have any lyrics. He came up with some ideas right there on the spot, and that's what we recorded. For some reason, it didn't make it on Ten. I was kind of bummed at the time. I really wanted it to be on our first record. But at the time, I was really young and just happy to be around this situation,

  • @MaktG11 there are no official lyrics to this song. he changes them many times. Vedder has mentioned the war theme about a friend of his as you say, but he has been heard singing "i dont know whether i was the boxer or the bag" During the 2nd Iraq war he sang it many times using the war theme "dont know whether he'll be comin home in a box OR a bag" but just know that the song has many different lyrics and different meanings.

  • @domeslacker I'm a survivor of Gen X yet was never into the whole "Faux Grunge" thing (the melvins are still grunge & still in seattle) yet apropos of the song, i love this one, just read these lyrics & saw you mentioned a "war theme" - The "boxer or the bag" seems to me a relative relationship thing yet if there is a war theme i could see it with the letter metaphor here. What i love is the way he fits the words into the song, it's kind of the "off time/on time" scenereo

  • @bobethe when he says "boxer or the bag" it is perhaps a question he poses, is he the abuser or the abused? The theme of the song is then about a relationship, perhaps with himself or with someone else. BUT, when he changes the lyrics (as he often does) and sings "coming home in a box or a bag" he is clearly changing the theme of the song to that of a war theme/story. He changes the lyrics to make transform the theme to be current with whatever they feel appropriate...war, relationships, etc

  • @domeslacker Oh, i wasn't aware he changed it to the "coming home in a box or a bag" -- i appreciate your comment, he was a poet, and like a lot of poets, only they know what they mean

  • @MaktG11 the lyrics boxer or bag are correct, the whole box or a bag is from a live version

  • @MaktG11 it's been a year since your comment so you probably won't see this but the version of the song you're talking about was from the words he sang at a live concert. The original lyrics are what's on here.
