i was looking for a live recording that Geddy sings like in the studio, i've seen other ones before that he keeps singin diferent, i finally found the best live version of this song!
This may be from ATWAS, but you don't get Something For Nothing! The tape hiss, the feeling as you hit the record button that night in 1980 knowing that you're capturing the sounds of a great band early in their career, not knowing how far the future would take them, but having heard Permanent Waves the first day that year, realizing the new musical direction they were going, but also never understanding the impact an album like Moving Pictures would make less than a year later. RUSH!
This was my first Rush album .. I love live albums and wanted to get a comilations of songs and this album blew me away . Then from Fly bu night I lost it and never looked back
Saw this tour in 1976 (Oct 1, Sydney, Cape Breton). Cap 4000 at the fourm. I would say that 900 were there. One of the best concerts I saw for $ 4.99.
I decided not to change the info box because so many people have accused me of misrepresenting the fact that this is from the ATWAS album and not a bootleg. All the info reflects that fact and it was originally posted without those facts because I was afraid that you-tube would reject the post due to copyright and ownership issues. I did actually record this from the radio in 1980 and it is from ATWAS but I have too much fun going back and forth with people who think I lied.
I've got a bunch of tapes from back then. I taped Foreigner about a month later and I've posted it here on You-tube. About 6 months earlier I taped a Led Zeppelin show on the radio. I haven't posted that because every note ever played by Led Zeppelin has been posted on you-tube.
I listened to this album for the whole summer of 78 in my sporty wooden boat. I was eleven or twelve i think. Still love it, but i could not ever figure out what the the lyrics was about then. And i still can't.. Now i´m stucked in the same wooden boat tied to that same log, laying at the same beach . English is not my native languish. Sorry ´bout that.. We still love RUSH don´t we?
I am a die-hard rush fan. But I have to say for myself only, after 2112 the music became to complicated and long for the average listener. It was in and of itself artistic and in a place of it's own, unsurpassed still today. But the average listener just wanted to rock for 3 1/2 minutes to hard rock like ATWAS had on it. My hats off to them, but ......guys, you got too far out there for the average head banger.
I'm only 17... I've seen them both legs of the Snakes and Arrows tour, and 2 times so far on the Time Machine Tour... it'll be 3 times when they reschedule the Chicago show. The shows have all been awesome, but I SO wish I was around to see them live during this time period. :(
funny as it is now. i was a huge fan of rush back in the day and yet their ayn rand message was completely lost on me. i was totally into learning every alex lifeson riff and all the rest was just stuff. geddy's voice and neils percussion. understanding the lyrics now seems so oddly ironic. it reminds me of a bumper sticker, "freedom isn't free", no, it's about 4 dollars a gallon.
You and about every teenager out there! Most of us were too tied up with our hormones and peers to look into the deeper meaning of the lyrics or of life in general unless it was to impress the girl(or guy) next to us! Pretty narrow minded statement on the bumper sticker though. Were not hormone driven teens anymore and being all grown up we should see the bigger picture and stop trying to show how clever we are to our equally grown up friends.
You're welcome and like my answer to your 1st comment I'd have to say, you and about every other grown up,old fart out there (I'm included in both the 1st and 2nd category!).
Excuse me Rickyon. I don't mean to interrupt you and Rachel, but if I could just squeeze in a comment right quick, I'll be on my way and out of your hair.
thanks.
Now... my comment.
What Rachel said. Ditto to the Rachel. Rachel112263 that is. The comment she posted a month ago still applies as far as I'm concerned. Hmm... recycling comments. What a concept. Think of all the words and letters that will be saved if we all did that.
Okay. I'm done. You two can go about your business now. Bye.
Thank you Anubis, I didn't know you were such a kind and generous deity. Or are you wearing "The Mask Of The Great Deceiver"? With a name like that one has to be careful! Thanks for your permission to let us proceed!....Rick
Thanks Rachel. Good to hear from you again. Hope all is well. I noticed you mentioned Vincent Spano in your "movies and shows" section. I've got an old 45 from a band that I knew named Pegasus and the singer was Vincents cousin Stephan Spano. I may post it soon.....Rick
Wow. I know a lot of people who would like to hear that song. I'm in the Vincent Spano fan club (I have to do something to occupy my time) and I'm sure everyone in the club would flip out at it!!
Hey Rachel, I was mistaken, I think Stephen was his younger brother and I've since posted both sides of the 45RPM. The band was called Pegasus. Check it out! I think Stephen only sings on "Winter's Run" which he wrote. The other side is a great period piece also. I can give you a link to a Stephen Spano fansite review of one of his albums also if your interested!....Rick
