Kim West is surperb in this mesmerizing version of "Eleanor Ridby" & inspired musicians rock...this "Unsung" legendary lady is awesome and "Big Brass Four Poster" is an overlooked masterpiece that needs to be released on Compact Disc...Bravo Kim!
Can someone please tell me who arranged the orchestration? I think it's brilliant. As good as Kim's incredible vocal prowess, and that is no easy feat. I cannot stop listening to it.
This surpasses the Beatles' version. Ray Charles' version is worth checking out. But Kim Weston's is in a league of one. Kim Weston, where are you? Wherever you are you have just gained another greatful fan. And the soaring horns, amazing.
Eleanor Rigby is my favourite Beatles' tunes. I have just heard this version for the first time. It's my favourite one. It drives, relentlessly, implacably, unwaveringly, mercilessly, while retain the pathos that is the essence of 'Eleanor Rigby'. Who on earth produced this masterpiece?
Kim Weston gets inside "Eleanor Rigby" turning it inside out in a way only she can do with that awesome voice...talk about "Unsung", this amazing singer could sing most right off the stage and is the most incredible voice of the classic Motown Era...gem of a performance is a few years after Motown exit showing she had her stuff together & would be great having this classic on CD...Bravo Kim!
Yay! I've been looking for this version for forever! It's rare that a cover comes out just as good, if not better, than the original. I'm a big fan of original song by The Beatles. But, this version is just amazing too. I love it!
I've heard Aretha, Diana Ross, The Bettles sang it as well If i'm not mistaken but Kim had the Essence of this song down pack. You can feel the suspense in her voice for this unlike the other versions. Kim's version of Eleanor Rigby is the best.
I've heard Aretha, Diana Ross, The Bettles sang Ait as well If i'm not mistaken but Kim had the Essence of this song down pack. You can feel the suspense in her voice for this unlike the other versions. Kim's version of Eleanor Rigby is the best.
Kim Weston is the greatest voice from Motown Era & this fiery "Eleanor Rigby" show legendary Diva in incredibly great form & amazing arrangement with stunning vocal make this a true classic...Bravo Kim!!!
Engrossing & intoxicating gem from "Big Brass Four Poster" lp, a Kim Weston masterpiece never released on compact disc...Kim Weston recorded great things after Motown & these hard to find gems are all magnificent and worth seeking out...Kim Weston sings from her heart & soul and takes the listener there in a sublime & unforgettable way...Bravo Kim!!!
This is just one powerhouse song! Been listening to it for a couple of years now since first coming across it on a compilation CD, and it still hasn't lost its freshness on me. I'm just surprised at how unknown this song is; that is hasn't been thrown into some movie soundtrack or used in some other way. It's a jem!
I don't remember ever hearing of Kim Weston, and I wonder why. Judging from this, she should have been the star whose record was broken by Michael Jackson's Triller.
@therealEmpyre Her biggest hits were the #14 "It Takes Two" with Marvin Gaye and the ORIGINAL version of "Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me For a Little While)" which she did on Hullaballoo on a really tall stage...
When I was a little girl working with Kim in Detroit, I had know idea of her place in the Motown story. I am still discovering her amazing music, thanks to YouTube!!!!
I always though Aretha Franklin did a unique cover of Eleanor Rigby but this version by Kim Weston is also terrific, never heard it before. I've got the "Greatest Hits and Rare Classics" CD by Kim Weston but this song isn't on it, unfortunately. Thanks for posting it.
Kim Weston's performing in London next week, albeit part of a very long bill. I doubt if she'll time for more two songs, maybe just the one and we all know what that might be.
Kim Weston is incredible here giving "Eleanor Rigby" a since of urgency not heard before of since...Kim rocks & gets to the core of this classic and the effect is riveting! From "Big Brass Four Poster", a totally awesome masterpiece not yet released on CD...no wonder the recording industry is in such a mess when something this great goes unreleased all these years. Bravo Kim Weston!!!
You must reminder If this recored ny Motown Berry Gordy had a sound he wanted and if that sound was not met You did not record. If it was another record company they wnted that sound.
"Singing out of tempo" is called song interpretation. She's not screaming, she's giving the song an urgency that was not there before. And that urgency is supported by the lyric. Her style reminds me of a grittier Shirley Bassey.
Great Cover song!!! Probablly the best one I have heard yet!!!Wow this is my first time finding out her. But don't you just hate the idea that you don't hear about some people but then you hear alot about people who at times are just overrated?
Kim Weston is electrifying singing this Beatles classic and brings her own to it in a brilliant way...from the masterpiece "Big Brass Four Poster" which needs to be released on cd! Nobody sings quite like this legendary Motown Diva...Bravo Kim!!!

soulbrotha63 2 years ago 7
It's overkill. I don't really care if it's supported by the lyrics or not - it gets on my nerves.
This sounds extremely generic, as well - it could be by just about anyone in the 70s.
spasticteapot 2 years ago
spasticteapot, you are entitled to your opinion. I do not agree. There is nothing overkill about this performance. And I know overkill when I hear it.
But if it gets on your nerves, then just skip it. There are enough versions of this song to make everybody happy. Ain't America great?
soulbrotha63 2 years ago 3
She has a nice voice, and the band was screaming good, but I don't think she needed to scream or sing out-of-tempo like she did.
I'll give it a B.
