  • Next time Im on vacation I know where Im going to railfan. Thats so cool I had no Ideal that trains ran on the streets in NYC.

  • Occupy the brunch line....lol Extra "O" Video ***** Stars for Big Apple

  • Didn't know they used the big frieght haulers for the town track too!

  • they fixed that track up nicely. use to be more switches and tracks though their and the asphalt was tore up.

  • Awsome catch great video!!

  • That's an ex-Southern Pacific switcher. Notice how the roof headlights are right of center (as you face the locomotive). That's because there used to be Gyralites mounted left of center to balance them out. SP used to have Gyralights or Mars Lights on most of their locomotives at one time.

  • Wow! At last some footage of this area! I've been searching for stuff for ages. Found a few good sites like Forgotten NY etc. Please, if you wonder if you should bother getting out there and shooting more, take it from someone on the other side of the Globe.. it's appreciated.

    Good quality work too btw.

  • It's so weird to be driving to BAT and suddenly see this TRAIN on the street with all the cars! It's awesome.

  • Pretty rare to see ex-UP power in Brooklyn! And I thought they stopped using that piece of track on 1st avenue!

  • Awesome video 5*****

  • John, great to see some video of NYNJ's SW1500! Many Thanks!

  • woah, what state was this in?

  • Brooklyn, NYC, at the southern end of 1st Ave, near the Bush Army Terminal.

  • woah thats awesome, how did a union pacific get all the way to brooklyn!?

  • This is the first video of the NYCH street running I've ever seen.

I though it would be much slower and painstaking than that! The FRA data for those "crossings" say that they must be flagged by the crew for each movement.

  • NYCH operate under NORAC rules, with ratified allowances/changes for the excess of "pure street running"...

  • How often do they run? What days? I live about 5 blocks from their yard on 1st Avenue and would love to snap some shots of it running.

  • They run as needed. Monday through Friday. This was shot around 11AM

  • nice John - we need more NYNJRR and NYCH content!!!!
