People can say what they want about Torrence, but the truth is that she won this race: PERIOD! she could have run in the far outside of her lane and still won. Now that I look back in history, I believe that Torrence had the most integrity amongst the athletes of her time. She spoke out; whether you agreed or disagreed, on what she thought was unfair.

@Smokspiral, the charges were dismissed on technicalities (because the retesting process was not done in the time, given by CAS) she was never cleared, there is a big difference ! She is a drug cheat who got off, and shouldn't have. And when the charges were dismissed, the courts learned that the orginal tests were correct and there should never have been retesting, but it was too late, Thus WADDA was formed.

Although I know that Jamacia doesn't have an anti doping program - so there is not random drug testing of their athletes. At the end of 2008, news was they were trying to form one, and that parliment was pushing through legislation that would enforced the WADDA codes. But as far as I know, it hasn't changed yet. Slovenia doesn't have any doping agency either.

It would be different if Torrence jumped the gun and won, but she was clearly the fastest and stepping on the line did not give her a competitive advantage. She simply broke a rule. It's a shame, however, that Torrence was not more gracious and humble in her disqualification. Bad sportsmanship.

Gwen torrence was a great runner! If she wasnt DQ and her time with the wind was converted its actually a 21.53 which is amazing! She could have come really close to the WR or even equalling it if she was patient and her form was a little better:) I give her credit for her achievement, however, the only thing that bothered me when I met her on occasions was her attitude sometimes. She is still great though:)
