Murray in error as usual at 1:33 - calling the speed as 130 kmh - in fact is 230 kmh on this 1st short straight (jones straight) in 5th gear.
He was constantly making this type of mistake - always watering down the true speeds - I remember friends saying "Big deal I do 130 in my car on the freeway so i can be an F1 driver." well done Murray you idiot!
Johnny Drumfries probably wasn't one of the most talented people on the grid... But man, looking at this stuff, it took some real guts to drive these things. Yeah, he was lightyears behind his team mate Senna, but hey, anyone able to keep this thing on track at those speeds deserves some respect.
Jesus - this brings a tear to the eye to see how badly F1 has degenerated in the past 20 years - this is GOD-DAMNED MAGNIFICENT! These cars were absolutely wild beasts compared to today's tame ponies.
What a sport we once had - RIP F1 1985-1991 - the GOLDEN ERA! We will never see the likes of this again!
@belmon125 Nope, that was the Brabham, if I'm not mistaken. This is the Lotus which was powered by Renault. It did have over 1,000 HP in qualifying trim though (as did most, if not all of the engines at that time)
i love how they leave the retired cars still on the track ie nannini's minardi at banana bend and ghinzani's osella at the end of the pit straight, highly dangerous to some degree, nowadays we would have a safety car out and the cars removed, how times have changed!
the gearchanges in these older cars sounded so much more mechinical. They sounded awesome infact. You could here the clunking of the gears changing and the revs shoot up. Nowadays you here jackshit when they change gear. Older F1 cars sounded better, end of!
@11johnnydumfries If your the great driver in history, tell me how many races you won to Ayrton Senna in the same car??????? Ayrton Senna 2 - Johnny Dumfries 0!

He looks like a gladiator in that car. The drivers today look like rich boys with toy cars.

Lotus-Renault with ca.900-950 HP in race-configuration, unbelievable work compares to today!

It's not that he had to steer the car but he had to fight with the gear changes aswell, great sight.

@f1fan84 The new ones sound shit. I heard the V10 in 2003 in Austria and the V8 in Hungary 2008. The V8 of today sounds definitely shit.
