Thanks so much for these posts. I have enjoyed this series immensely. So entertaining, it's concepts so beautifully referenced I have re-learned what I thought I already knew.
@bokai77 Thank you I couldn't remember this either. For some reason I tought it was Bach's Passacaglia in C minor. Well at least I was right about the key.
Some users may be unable to watch Bass - Part 4 in their country. This is due to a copyright claim by UMG on some elton john footage. Please use a US or UK proxy to view video.
I can watch the part you've mentioned from Germany just fine, however now Harmony Part 5 seems to be blocked (wasn't blocked before) and I can't seem to find Harmony Part 3. Can you please help/elaborate?
hmm, thats odd because all current copyright claims state that the videos are now available worldwide, with the only proviso being placing adverts, which seems pretty reasonable of them...
In short i dont know what the problem is mate, il have a look into it....
@whizkidforte Haha, I know. It sounds like Paul McCartney covering a Stevie track. As a supposedly big Stevie fan I am not that familiar with the song I'm ashamed to admit but then again I'm not all that clued up on 'Fulfillingness...' as an album to be honest. HG must be a bona fide SW fan- he's referenced him more than 1ce in this series. I'm glad the transcendent nature of Wonder's musical genius is continually recognised on this show.
A downward stepping major scale in J.S. Bach's "Air on the G String".
Chromatic scale in the bass generates more sophisticated and ambiguous chords.
Purcell, in "Dido and Aneas", uses a descending "Ground Bass" to generate a suicidal mood. The same technique was used 300 years later by Stevie Wonder in "They won't go when I go".
Inversions (using 3rd or 5th in the bass instead of the tonic) markedly change the character of a chord.
wow totally amazed with Howard's performance, of They Won't Go When I Go, tremendous

Wow. So that's why Nine Inch Nails' "Downward Spiral" sounded so familiar. Good stuff. <3
