I saw these that night. I was driving home after work from Mesa to Phoenix. I was on Highway 60 and the lights came close so I pulled off the road to watch them. I could easily hear they were helicopters. So many military helicopters for years from the base by Papago park or where ever. I use to see many of the helicopters in the day time so it didn't suprise me. Later it made such news but no one wanted to hear I heard them and they were obviously helicopters

I was camping in the desert out side of pheonix (no where within sight of any buildings or roads) at that time, sleeping under the stars. I woke up because there was something bright. I opened my eyes and looked up and directly above, me were 5 very bright lights in a triangular shape directly above me. I couldn't tell just how big they were because I had no point of reference, but they reminded they seemed huge. They were very bright but I didn't have to squint to look at them.

I'd be interested to know what covert operations and priorities were active at the military facilities around Phoenix at that time and what changes to those operations were made as a result of the lights. In college, I lived in Michigan. I dated a girl who's parents moved to Phoenix. We went to visit them, I believe it was in 1997. I remember seeing some of the footage of the Phoenix Lights right before we went, and I was super excited. She was excited to see her parents, I was excited to hopefully see something strange in the skies!!!

Not only did people try to capture the phenomena on film, but because it blacked out the sky, the pics didn't turn out. In the Documentary the 911 Phoenix Police operator herself states that police helicopters were sent up to investigate. There is also a report to NUFOC (National UFO Reporting Center) that military jets were deployed to intercept the mile wide craft right over 7th ave & Indian School Rds, and when they got close, the phenomena just "blinked out"! i remember this from when i was 7yrs old. I just remember everyone looking up at the sky and seeing lights in a slanted form. i didnt witness the phoenix lights in 97considering i was three, but i did see the ones last year in 08, and those werent flares, i live tight next to a military base in fallon nevada, iv seen all sorts of flares in the middle of the night, those arent flares, plus they dont move downward like flares do

This was an excellent documentary. I think it was very courageous of these witnesses to come forward, knowing that they would be ridiculed by so many for their beliefs. I think it is unfortunate that their credibility has been constantly shot down by debunkers. Do the debunkers expect everyone to believe that the 3,500+ military/commercial pilots were hallucinating when they have reported UFOs? Many of the eye witnesses to the Phoenix Lights were prominent citizens and very reliable people so that is why it has been taken more seriously. There were pilots at home, doctors, politicians, police officers, firemen besides thousands of other citizens who all witnessed this event. There is no doubt it was the real thing. I have worked on C-17's and C-130's for 10 years. A lot of you civilians need to stop watching movies. The Air Force does not "drop" "flares" or anything else over populated areas. They have drop zones for that. They also don't "test" projects near civlians. Hence Edwards Air Force, Nellis AFB, Wright Patterson, etc. The Civilian govt. has a tight leash on the military heads will role if you endanger the public. The FAA and Air Force freak out if a panel falls off a jet.
I don't believe that the military had such a craft in 1997 and if they did, I certainly don't believe they had anything close to a mile wide, which was a consistent description from countless witnesses. I also don't believe the military would intentionally violate Class "B" airspace and fly extremely low to the ground, skimming over mountaintops and rooftops the way countless witnesses described, endangering millions of citizens on the ground and in the air.

It was the government testing a new kind of flares. They dropped them at certain intervals and this created the curve that could be seen as the outline of something much bigger.
Nice try, but you, like so many others, focus too much on the footage and discount the hundreds of witness testimonies of something flying over Phoenix and the entire state for that matter. These lights were not just seen from a distance. Some witnesses were directly underneith as the "craft" passed over. Many witnesses were active and ex-military who have worked with flares and they insist that is not what they saw. Flares are never dropped over populated areas. FAA rules prohibit this.
I have extensively researched the flare theory. There were no such flares as you claim being tested and even if there were, there is nothing top-secret about flares or their use. Thank you Warpath for making this point crystal clear! Illumination flares are large metal cylinders filled with a magnesium based pyrotechnic composition. They are dropped over test ranges, military bases and other areas where military operations take place. Dropping flares, or any objects for that matter, over populated areas and Indian reservations is a serious FAA violation and prohibited due to possible injury to civilians, damage to property and ground fires.

I think they were flares but only in response to the V shaped craft that many people saw further south before dark. These are 2 seperate sightings. The flares are a distraction by the military. In clearer videos you can see a planes strobe beacon flashing right befor each light comes on. my mom saw these lights on the night of march 13 1997. unlike anthing anything shes ever seen. she was on country club dr. and the 60. she said it was so low, she had to duck down, thought it was going to hit her. it was very silent, no noise. almost like a hang glyder she said.

It would also kill the innocent people below. Men, women and children alike. It's a alien spacecraft. The military don't believe in them. I was camping in the desert out side of pheonix (no where within sight of any buildings or roads) at that time, sleeping under the stars. I woke up because there was something bright. I opened my eyes and looked up and directly above, me were 5 very bright lights in a triangular shape directly above me. I couldn't tell just how big they were because I had no point of reference, but they reminded they seemed huge. They were very bright but I didn't have to squint to look at them.

I'd be interested to know what covert operations and priorities were active at the military facilities around Phoenix at that time and what changes to those operations were made as a result of the lights. Hell, that might help explain why this thing made so bold and public a presence, which seems out of protocol in the whole UFO exposure phenomenon.

In college, I lived in Michigan. I dated a girl who's parents moved to Phoenix. We went to visit them, I believe it was in 1997. I remember seeing some of the footage of the Phoenix Lights right before we went, and I was super excited. She was excited to see her parents, I was excited to hopefully see something strange in the skies!!!

Not only did people try to capture the phenomena on film, but because it blacked out the sky, the pics didn't turn out. In the Documentary the 911 Phoenix Police operator herself states that police helicopters were sent up to investigate. There is also a report to NUFOC (National UFO Reporting Center) that military jets were deployed to intercept the mile wide craft right over 7th ave & Indian School Rds, and when they got close, the phenomena just "blinked out"! There were also witnesses too.

i remember this from when i was 7yrs old. I just remember everyone looking up at the sky and seeing lights in a slanted form. It was at night so my mom quickly sent us to bed because she didn't want us to be scared. I only saw the lights for about a minute but that image will stay in my mind forever. It was quite an experience for a child.

I saw the same thing tonight (4/20/09) over sulphur springs valley in southeast arizona, where A-10 warthogs fly all the time. I saw the planes fly over my house returning to Davis Monthan AFB a few minutes later. They looked exactly like this video. They were just flares, sorry all you coast to coast fans.

I witnessed the lights last night too. They were obviously flares, descending and smoke trails. I ALSO witnessed the Phx Lights 3/13/97, during the mass sighting & those lights were definitely NOT flares. They were attached to a silent, mile wide V craft, wing span beyond both sides of
I10 Hwy. When the craft was over our car, as we traveled from Tucson to Phx, we saw the huge wells of lights perfectly. The video is misleading. The real lights were huge, round & amber. Photos more on target.

This was an excellent documentary. I think it was very courageous of these witnesses to come forward, knowing that they would be ridiculed by so many for their beliefs. I think it is unfortunate that their credibility has been constantly shot down by debunkers. Do the debunkers expect everyone to believe that the 3,500+ military/commercial pilots were hallucinating when they have reported UFOs? Were 10,000 witnesses just hallucinating when they saw a massive object over Phoenix? Not a chance.

Many of the eye witnesses to the Phoenix Lights were prominent citizens and very reliable people so that is why it has been taken more seriously. There were pilots at home, doctors, politicians, police officers, firemen besides thousands of other citizens who all witnessed this event. There is no doubt it was the real thing. Whether it was a bona fide UFO or an experimental aircraft we may never know. Yes I saw it too.

Spoke to my grandmother yesterday and we somehow started to talk about UFOs. Around November in 1996 she and her daughter and several members of the family witnessed 3 really sharp lights in a row in Norway.. it was just hovering over a valley and then a silent triangle craft flew over their house and suddenly took off. I'm convinced aliens exist. I don't like the word alien though, it seems like there are so many negative connotations attached to that. I like using beings or intelligence.
So yeah, I'm definitely convinced they exist, I'm convinced that they are not here to hurt us, but to help us, or perhaps pass on some of their knowledge, and who doesn't want to meet these beings.

I have worked on C-17's and C-130's for 10 years. A lot of you civilians need to stop watching movies. The Air Force does not "drop" "flares" or anything else over populated areas. They have drop zones for that. They also don't "test" projects near civlians. Hence Edwards Air Force, Nellis AFB, Wright Patterson, etc. The Civilian govt. has a tight leash on the military heads will role if you endanger the public. The FAA and Air Force freak out if a panel falls off a jet.

I don't believe that the military had such a craft in 1997 and if they did, I certainly don't believe they had anything close to a mile wide, which was a consistent description from countless witnesses. I also don't believe the military would intentionally violate Class "B" airspace and fly extremely low to the ground, skimming over mountaintops and rooftops the way countless witnesses described, endangering millions of citizens on the ground and in the air.

Nice try, but you, like so many others, focus too much on the footage and discount the hundreds of witness testimonies of something flying over Phoenix and the entire state for that matter. These lights were not just seen from a distance. Some witnesses were directly underneith as the "craft" passed over. Many witnesses were active and ex-military who have worked with flares and they insist that is not what they saw. Flares are never dropped over populated areas. FAA rules prohibit this.

Dropping flares, or any objects for that matter, over populated areas and Indian reservations is a serious FAA violation and prohibited due to possible injury to civilians, damage to property and ground fires.

I didn't see this live, but I've seen more weird shit in the desert night sky of Arizona than I care to have seen. No way all of this stuff is explainable as anything other than extraterrestrial.

I refuse to say definitely that this is aliens or government crafts. There are possibilities for each. I do know that the US govt as well as any govt thrives on fooling people. I do believe in alien life in the cosmos but I wont say they have been here because I just dont know.

What makes you so sure they don't exist? Where's your proof? Please don't respond by saying "The burden of proof is on you." While we don't have open contact (yet), there's is tons of evidence and countless reliable witnesses. Meanwhile, you skeptics don't present any evidence or proof (there isn't any) to validate your point. You deny, dismiss and debunk everything without properly educating yourself on the subject. BTW, if you don't believe in aliens, why did you look up this video and post your ignorant comments? I'm not a Catholic or a Muslim, but you don't see me going to their blogs and trashing them. I respect other people's beliefs, which is something you and other skeptics should learn how to do. If everyone were like you there would be no science and we would still be living in the stone age! ok now this is definately true and there are definately such things as other intelligent life forms aka aliens there are thousands of other universes and galaxies that they could possible get through or its the government just experimenting with really high tech stuff that for some reason they dont wanna tell because they probably get outside help.

I think they were flares but only in response to the V shaped craft that many people saw further south before dark. These are 2 seperate sightings. The flares are a distraction by the military. In clearer videos you can see a planes strobe beacon flashing right befor each light comes on. Then there was the daylight video of the mountain range overlayed with the lights video and the lights went out exactly where they met the mountain outline. Go to AboveTopSecret on here. my mom saw these lights on the night of march 13 1997. unlike anthing anything shes ever seen. she was on country club dr. and the 60. she said it was so low, she had to duck down, thought it was going to hit her. it was very silent, no noise. almost like a hang glyder she said.

These were lights,I saw them while driving down to P one night in Sep 2006.
They appeared out of know where on a very clear still night.I thought it was a plane for a start,BUT,the lights were Huge and way begger than any plane,After about 5 seconds they disapeared.The there was a light as fast as the eye could follow shot south and out of sights
