got the special edition in the mail this morning. in my humble opinion, possibly their best album since Scenes From A Memory. they really go out on a limb in every direction this time, and it works. lyrics aren't the best on a couple songs... ok on The Count of Tuscany, but really... who gives a flying F*ck, it's an awesome song. the whole thing gives me a "new DT with an old DT flavor" feeling that is just... win. lots of it.

I have the full album, it was leaked (btw i'm still going to buy the album when it comes out) and i have to say... it's really epic. it does contain gothic influences. And the count of tuscany...it is like a change of seasons, and it does have a pink floyd influence. My favorite songs has to be ANTR and TCOT. The whole album is just simply win. Highly recommended. DT has done it again!!

ive heard the full nightmare to remember, and rite of passage, they both have a very Gothic feeling to start, i dont mean like satanic just very dark, then they really take off as the choruses come in, and instrumental pieces are amazing, though i was a bit mad petrucci changed his tone a bit., but you hear somethings that jordan rudess does you thought you would ever hear, they just continue to keep experimenting and its absolutly amazing. rock on DT!

MovieMajic, I noticed the change in Petrucci's tone also... I personally like it but it reminds me a bit of Blind Faith, that one run that leads into the instrumental section, it seems a bit bluesier/ classic rocky
yea it seems to be a little more crunchy, i dont really mind it its just a change for me to hear a lesser distorted petrucci, but yes it does sound a bit like that one piece of blind faith you are right bout that.

Yup, A Nightmare to Remember and A Rite of Passage have both leaked onto the Internet. This album sounds downright EVIL right now after listening to these two songs. A Nightmare to Remember is downright amazing and, in my opinion, better than any SC and Octavarium song except maybe the 20+ minute epics on those albums.
The new songs so far have more depth and structure to them compared to SC. I need to listen to A Rite of Passage a little more to get a better feel for it, but I would say A Nightmare to Remember is better than every song on SC except for In The Presence of Enemies.
For those who despise Train of Thought, you will probably hate A Nightmare to Remember just from how the song kicks off, but the middle verses of the song are VERY good and much softer.
I just don't get how people can say the albums are better than the last just off the fly like that! I mean of course there's always room for improvement. DT is not just the here and now! Every album they've made is their BEST! They are the same musicians and "PEOPLE" they were yesterday so give it a rest with the nubish coments already!

And I can hear quite many effects/sounds from keyboard on this teaser. Rudess uses quite many guitar-alike synth/lead sounds that might sound as guitars to you. For instance at 0:17 the lead goes on the background.

Yup, A Nightmare to Remember and A Rite of Passage have both leaked onto the Internet. This album sounds downright EVIL right now after listening to these two songs. A Nightmare to Remember is downright amazing and, in my opinion, better than any SC and Octavarium song except maybe the 20+ minute epics on those albums.

The new songs so far have more depth and structure to them compared to SC. I need to listen to A Rite of Passage a little more to get a better feel for it, but I would say A Nightmare to Remember is better than every song on SC except for In The Presence of Enemies.
For those who despise Train of Thought, you will probably hate A Nightmare to Remember just from how the song kicks off, but the middle verses of the song are VERY good and much softer.

I just don't get how people can say the albums are better than the last just off the fly like that! I mean of course there's always room for improvement. DT is not just the here and now! Every album they've made is their BEST! They are the same musicians and "PEOPLE" they were yesterday so give it a rest with the nubish coments already!

oh, then I guess there isn't any prog song in I&W , Awake , FII, SFaM , ToT , and SC , and if you dont take the second CD of 6DOIT as one song, then it means the only prog metal album of DT is octavarium.

You sound like there was no/not enough keyboards on the previous albums?
And I can hear quite many effects/sounds from keyboard on this teaser. Rudess uses quite many guitar-alike synth/lead sounds that might sound as guitars to you. For instance at 0:17 the lead goes on the background.

I dont wanna discuss, so I will just say that Mr Killer is "right", and the opinion of xPurpleDrinkx9001 is valid if he wants more progressive and thinks that their metal side makes them worse and "un-progressive". I think that they had achievements on the last albums, and also bad songs.
About the video, the two clips that excite me most, are the "give me one more chance" one and the last one (in all channels -I'm not a English native speaker, so I don't catch up what they say- ).

Mr Killer, I apologize and completely agree. that is exactly what makes them so amazing. and blackplastic, yeah.. i guess you are right. that is what i respect about each album, its the fact that no matter what, they always churn out something that makes my jaw drop. hey, anyone for doing their top 3 favorite dream theater songs? 3- Under a Glass Moon, 2- In the Name of God, 1- Sacrificed Sons. strange line up maybe, but the truth nonetheless.

You guys expect that the next DT albums sound like their old stuff (Images & Words, amog others). Come on, Dream Theater is a PROGRESSIVE rock/metal band. Change and experimentation is what makes them such a good band.
If all their albums where like their old stuff, we would get bored. And they would become very predictable.
I'm glad they don't just focus in one genre. The REAL DT fans know what I'm talking about.
