Besides, those weapons you're talking about are expensive and there aren't that many of them. Here's something else; half of this country is armed to the teeth. Japan wanted to create the greater East-Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, which will include China, Korea, Southeast Asia, etc and use their armies for future expansion, the USA included. There were minor attacks by Japan into Alaska via the Aleutians.

How could Japan carry 3 million troops over Pacific Ocean and land them on US coast? It took almost 3 years to prepare and land in Normandy over English channel -just over 20 miles wide. Japan was military giant with complete dependence on the foreign natural recourses, besides being small nation. It took small fleet of US subs to starve Japan.
Even their NAVY was serious force (for obvious reasons -- foreign recourses) for a while, on the land they lacked military tech believing that soldier spirit being more important then weaponry. Their chances to succeed were very, very slim.

Japan took over the foreign resources when they invaded China and the Phillipines. Their military florished due to their conquests. Japan wasn't defeated by a few submarines they were defeated because their military was crushed and wanted to prevent an invasion of their homeland. Their navy was the largest in the world at the time and they had the most aircraft carriers;16. They also had some of the most advanced technology at the time especially their planes and navy. We used our brains to win.

That's right we used our brains to win - our naval tech went FAR ahead of Japan in no time - try 'small' thing like RADAR! And we did cut their supplies with subs.Our ability to built ships(and material) dwarfed Japan - why don't you find out how many dozens of carriers we built during the war vs. '16'.

Your refering to things that happened at the end of the war when Japan was already back in its territorial waters. In total we had twenty (not dozens) of aircraft carriers. I didn't deny that we sent in submarines to cut off supplies, but that happened at te end of the war and we only destroyed a few of them. The sea is just too damn big to cover with submarines. Near the end of the war we controlled the resources Japan once had and then built up our navy to invade Japan.

26 Essex class were built during WWII
+ 9 Independence class + 2 Saipan class + 130 escort carriers. Then add number of battleships,cruisers,destroyers,cargo and so on. The numbers dwarf Japanese production.
Again,find out how much (tonnage) of Japanese shipping were sunk.
Compare US armor production and tech vs. Japan. Even Japanese infantry weapons were pathetic.I suggest to watch 'Century of Warfare' documentary....

Wait...How'd we get here? Weren't we arguing about Obama and McCain? How'd we get to WWII statistics? Come to think of it. Those statistics are useless now. Today we have different weapons and different circumstances. We have better weapons and a wider range of advanced technology that civilians can simply order out of a magazine such as night and thermal vision goggles used for hunting. We also won't have to fight in the sea. We'll fight on land. This WWII argument is pointless.

In any case you can't 'simply' order RPG or TOW, PKM or SAW.
I own SVD but you can't 'simply' order one in CA - you can't order one at all for the last 8 years...
Bottom line all these guns sold to civilians are simply used as adult toys(unless you are criminal) nowadays.

What are you talking about? We have some great guns. We can even get machine guns if we want to. You can legally own a howitzer. All you need is a license for those and you're good to go.
Those "adult toys", those hunting rifles are more powerful than AK-47s or M-16s.
As for CA, yeah I know. That state is lousy with its gun laws. I live in NJ and it's the same here. You and I live in two of the top five gun cntrol happy states. In most states though, if you want it you can get it.

If you want to defend your rights from an oppressive government you need those things.
If you want to know what you'd do with an MG or howitzer just for fun go to a machine gun shoot. They're everywhere and you can fire whatever you want there no matter how big it is. The biggest ones are often held in Michigan. And only a small part of America is desert. It starts at Utah and ends in New Mexico. Most of America is either great plains or forests. You should know the geography of America.
