@Treblaine, according to the story, he does not dodge the moving bullet. He dodges when he sees a small movement of the finger on the trigger. A bad shooter (aimer) may actually hit him.
Fred Ward is like the last of the pulp heroes. He'd have been a bigger star in the era of guys like Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson, guys who weren't pretty and had character. Ward came along about ten or twenty years too late. Still glad he was around.
@Treblaine This is real, look up Karachov-something No contact. Russians used this kind of stuff all the time. Even though this is a Comedy the main concept is real. There are men in the world who can do this, so trolls can be trolls on interentl, but in real life careful what you say.
you left out the best part where he ignites the twig w/ the frictional heat of his fingers and blows him up, thus looking like an accident. " The best assassinations look like accidents", quote (Master Chun of the school of Shinanju)....
A bullet dodge can be done, watching the movement of the shooters hand, watching the shooters hand grip the gun tighter as the trigger is pulled will probably give you a 1 to 2 second advantage
If you saw the movie, the story is not that he moves faster than the bullet. It's that he moves faster than the shooter. He's moving to dodge just before the trigger is pulled.
That makes it closer to plausible but still not really doable.
@thehmph1 After the scene was cut he picks up a twig, lights in on fire with his bare fingers, and throws it on the gas tank of the jeep, killing the man. He was sent there to kill him and make it look like an accident.
it's obvious u cant dodge a bullet, even a subsonic one coming from handguns...BUT the time between the gunner pointing the gun and actually pulling the trigger is roughly equal to the "dodger's" reaction time...so it possible to anticipate the spot that he is aiming and it has been done in real life (try to fine a point blank shootout with a tree inbetween:P) but apparently you have to be also extremely lucky..
@Treblaine LoL omg you're funny you posted the other comment a year ago and after around 11 months you come back and realise you miscalculated? LoL haha
Chuin was a great part in this movie. The role was played by Joel Grey. Yes the same Joel Grey that was in Caberet. Just for fun pull up Willcommen on you tube and enjoy.
Remo Williams, known in the book series as..The Destroyer. One of the best adaptations, and one of the best action films from the 80s.Too bad we never got to have...Remo Williams,The Adventure Continues!!
That is a 1911 Colt Gov. Model, how the hell did he shoot all 7 bullet and that 80s' Matrix guy manage to pop 2 more rounds outta the magazine, and no, I did mistake that 1911 for a Browning High Power.
So physically he could actually move in time to dodge but in reality it would be impossible as his reaction time would be too slow, the bullet would hit him in 1/3 the time it would take for him to realise to move.
But if could anticipate the moment he fires to the millisecond... it MIGHT be possible.
@Treblaine Yeah, that's why you just gotta keep moving I guess. You don't have to be faster than a speeding bullet, just faster than the person pulling the trigger. That seemed to be the philosophy of the quick draws of the old west.
@Treblaine Earlier in the movie the made a point about the fact that he didn't learn to dodge bullets, he learned to judge a man's trigger finger tensing. So that way he would dodge just AS the bullet was fired. He didn't have to be faster than a bullet, just faster than his opponents aim.
The point in the movie, and the books, is that Remo is not dodging the bullet the instant it is fired. He begins to dodge as soon as he sees the shooter tense, hears the gun start to operate, etc. He's reading their muscle movement like Vamp from MGS2.
@Treblaine In the movie they explain that Sinanju teaches you to move BEFORE the trigger is pulled. But then again.......its just a freakin movie dude....lighten up....
It would require muscles tuned to a razors edge plus an extraordinary amount of intuitiona nd the ability to speed read body language. But how does an ancient martial art like sinanju contain techniques to dodge bullets since bullets are a fairly recent weapon.
@swastikausa (notices your username) Maybe Hitler was trying to dodge a bullet when shot himself through the fucking head. HA! He took the coward's way out. I prefer Churchill's idea of frying him in a lend-lease electric chair >:)
Anyhoo, I'm going to go play COD:WAW as a commie with a sub-machine gun, see how good those fascist are at dodging bullets. They die for Ze Fuhrer and the Fuhrer dies to save himself. It's like he is the Anti-Christ, inverse, everyone dies FOR HIM! FOR NOTHING!
@Treblaine You're forgetting inertia though. You can't instantly move at 25mph from stationary, there's acceleration involved, which depends on how quickly muscle contracts and moves parts of the body. Twisting would be quicker than bending. Jumping has to accelerate the entire body mass. Just sayin. :)
@foiblebear Hmm, damn, I always sucked at acceleration graphs. But a quick jot shows even if the muscles COULD move that quick the limit seems to be the maximum acceleration the cranium can sustain before you knock yourself out or sustain sever brain damage. Then of course, once you dodge the bullet you are now travelling through the air at 25 miles and hour, bit like hopping out a car at that speed.
@Treblaine .45 bullet has a muzzle velocity around 850 fps. Feet, not meters. At 750m/s (well, didn't do the math to figure out the exact velocity) but it would be traveling at nearly 3 times the speed. lol
Also, I thought it was clear in the movie that he was actually supposed to be dodging the aim of the shooter. He moves out of the line of fire before the shooter pulls the trigger.
@Treblaine not necessarily, if you look back at one of the shots, just before he pulls the trigger he moves. so really in the end his reaction time is greater because the older guy can't pull the trigger quickly. It can be done just by knowing where it will strike as he is pulling back the trigger. So it is possible
Fred Ward is the man. I really wish he made it bigger than he did, he's so awesome!! this movie is such a classic. true movie fans appreciate it thoroughly.
well they missed the next part, where he holds a twig, lights it on fire by rubbing it with his thumb, tosses it on the floor at a trail of fuel, then the car blows up (with that guy inside).

By the time a .45 bullet has traveled 750meters Treblaine has beaten off twice.
fish4fish19 2 years ago 2
... on your mom.
Treblaine 2 years ago
Slowest .45 bullet = 750m/s
Lets assume you can dodge at 25mph = ~12m/s
Reaction time = 0.16 of a second
distance= ~36m
.45 time to target = 0.048 second
time to dodge 1 foot = 0.025 second
So physically he could actually move in time to dodge but in reality it would be impossible as his reaction time would be too slow, the bullet would hit him in 1/3 the time it would take for him to realise to move.
But if could anticipate the moment he fires to the millisecond... it MIGHT be possible.

Yep, Jay something or other. A jewish fellow. He was a ballet dude if I recall the story. Always wondered how the old guy could move the way he did. Had me totally convinced he was Korean and did a great job. Fricken great movie.
