@bendfeldtf This is a literal translation. However a lot is lost in it. The russian poem has perfect rhytm and rhyme, this adds a lot of fluency to the song Turn around unknown passerby Your uncompromising look is familiar to me Maybe that is me only younger not always we recognize ourselves... Nothing on Earth passes without leaving a trail And the youth, which passed, is after all immortal... How young we were (x2) How sincerely we loved How much we believed in ouselves
Old Russia: the Russian ethnographic area. Yes, they consider themselves separate from Ukrainians and recently declared their independence (although Kiev is suppressing this info). They wish either to be independent or to become a part of Russia. Carpatho-Russians are Orthodox, not Uniate like the Galicians. They look to Russia for support, and we are 100% behind them. Their leader, Fr Dmitri Sidor, has been brutalised by the Galician thugs. Sad, very sad.
who are the girls in the colourful clothing at 2:00 ? Very beautiful! : )
Great video! I like Russian culture, literature & music and so, i'm going to try and learn the language. My dream is that one day I will be able to read the Russian greats in their original language!
They are girls from Carpatho-Russia, in the extreme west of Old Russia. At present, the Carpatho-Russian people are persecuted by the Galician Uniate nationalists, as a result, they are denied a national existence. It is sad, truly sad. They truly deserve the world's support in the face of "Ukrainian" Uniate thuggery. Spare them a thought and a prayer.
Someday, Carpatho-Russia shall be free... may that day be soon.
When you say "old Russia", do you mean the Russian Empire? or perhaps the Soviet Union?
Do they consider themselves to be an individual ethnicity - seperate both from Russia & Ukraine? or is it that they have been annexed to Ukraine despite wishing to be part of Russia?
Forgive my questions, but I've never heard of this particular issue before, and it's awfully sad to hear of any peoples feeling persecuted, very sad indeed!
@PBSmithy I think " Old Russia " is the period from a point somewhere in the past that ended in 1917, the Bolshevik Revolution, the assacination of Czar Alexander, and all congruent events of that ocurrance. Don't know what year was my " point in the past ", never will know. Talk about ethnicity, my mom was Ukrainian, my dad Russian, I was made in Austria and born in Brazil, now live in USA. Deep down I consider myself Brazilian first, everything else secondary.
I grew up listening to my grandmothers records on our visits to her house and listening to these songs put me right in her house again with all the wonderful memories of the past and my youth.spaceebo balshoi.....larissa
Really lovely...the music, lyrics, and images. Thank you for showing this side of Russia. I'm an American and though the two countries aren't exactly in love with each other (lol), I can appreciate their culture and hope they can appreciate some of ours.
What you describe, dear "Vostorgina01" in the text on your channel about Russia and all the countries who are part of that so called Russian Soul, the Slavic Soul, feels as if you describe my own soul. It is not my homeland but the paintings, the music, the landscapes awaken a feeling of nostalgia, something I am longing for to meet again....
Dmitri performs this song very very beautiful, with strength, but deep tenderness and empathy too. Also his song "Shine, shine my Star..."
Your pictures of ordinary Russian people made this lovely song sung by Hvo to an artwork of the finest ! I start to understand why you love your country so much. Great job !!
Lovely song! Also, I enjoyed the pictures of ordinary Russians. Regardless of the propaganda foisted on us by demagogues, I always knew in my heart that Russians were regular folk. After all, it is pretty clear that Russians love their children, too.
By the way, I do have a video of "Zhuravli" (The White Cranes) on this site. Just search for "Zhuravli" and you shall find it. Thank you for your compliment.
Beautiful song!!
Thanks for sharing

In the heavens, the sky lightings have gone (sunrise and sunset)
And in the heart, the thunder is calming.
To not forget our loved faces
To not forget our native eyes...

Others met us back then without laughs (put-downs)
All the flowers on the roads of this earth.
Our friends for their mistakes we forgave
Only changes (cheating) we could not forgive.
The first time we already have won
And only one thing from that we understand.
So others on this earth would not lose you,
Try to not lose yourself!

Look back, unfamiliar passerby,
Your glance is incorruptibly familiar.
Maybe that is me, only younger?
We not always remember ourselves.
Nothing on this earth passes without a trace,
And the youth that went away is nevertheless immortal.
How young we were!
How young we were!
How sincerely we loved
How believed we in ourselves!
