@1037pm Runways don't need to be reinforced for the A380. Any runway a 747 (VC-25) can use, the A380 can use as well. Required major modifications to an airport would be adding jetways to unload both decks at the same time if desired. Though I have a hard time imagining AF1 carrying 800+ passengers in "economy class" configuration.
thats too funny the current Air force One is a incredible acft the 747 has a better safety record than the FROG built scare bus. Air force 1 is probably the most highly maintained acft in the world, state of the art everything. Boeing set the standard and as usual the french try to take credit for it. The only thing I'm grateful for from the french is that they helped us kick the English out during the revolutionary war. then we liberated them from the nazis during ww2.

With the financial crisis we are in, Obama has stopped all Governmental Aviation purchases. One helicopter - 1 Air Force One.

1. It is a European company.
2. It costs wayyy too much money and it is not needed.
3. It is wayyy too big. Considering that most airports need to reinforce runways and taxiways to accomidate this beast.

How do you think the president gets to Washington? The plane flies him to the airport and he takes Marine 1 to the White House.
Also, Air Force one is highly reinforced. So the notions of a lacking Flight Deck and too many doors are not factored in.
The most important man in the world won't fly on a broke-down/crappy plane.
