  • The Vietnam war was hell for all the soldiers that were there and i am sure they live it over and over each night in their dreams, but THIS night at least they can see that they did make a difference and can relax with a nice concert with a man who sings a song to them letting them know that they DO matter even tho the government and most people in the US made them feel like slugs when they came back home(((shame on them))They served their country as I also did and deserve respect for that!!!!!!!

  • What a voice, what a man!

  • While I appreciate what John was trying to say, how can any causalities of war applaud this? This song was written and sung in the middle of the Viet Nam war, please remember this song was written in the middle of a bloody war where no one was victorious.

  • Only the dead soldier see the end of war

  • Only thge dead soldier see the end of war

  • All that lived through that day will keep it present

in their memory until the very end of their life.

    from WW1

no war is different, this speaks for "my" Iraq

  • @alpinorico : The only thing that changes about war is the Weapons..

  • It's easy to say, get over it.. it's a whole other ball game to actually be able to do it.

I only imagine how it was, I served Army in peace time... those that saw battle - it may not be easy but always remember, no matter how ignorant, crazy or stupid others may be... most of them truly appreciate the sweat, hard work and the putting your lives on the line everyday, whichever war(s) you served.

Your memories won't go away, the pain runs deep... for JF to state this.. he does NOT understand.

  • He understood, he spoke up for us 'Nam vets. He knows what PTSD is

    RVN service, 69-71

  • I think John was searching for a bond with the Vets that just doesn't exist. He has no freaking idea what it was like over there, he shouldn't pretend otherwise.

How can a sane man compare losing some money with watching your best friends die in a jungle on the other side of the world? If I recall, those years were pretty good to Mr. Fogerty... I'm sure he has enough money left to "get over" whatever is troubling him in Berkley.

  • Why dont you drop it , and forgive Stu and Doug ?

  • John didn't serve in Vietnam so he cannot understand what happened and the thoughts that get stuck in your head. I love the band and their music, but he was here playing his music while grunts were bustin brush and hoping to make it home in one piece. Just when you think you have put the "bullshit" as he calls it behind you, a thought, a smell or a sound and even his music can take you right back. That war cast some long shadows.

  • fuck A

  • 40 years ago I had 3 weeks Left in Country ..............and you do not forget ....you may move it in UR mind ....but it Will Comeback....But....We deal with it ...Its not easy but we do ... Vets Forever Together ...from all Wars and Conflicts.... We will Survive ....Rob McDonald ...Vietnam ...Australian Air Force...1970-71...

  • with age, all will understand

  • SCHEIß KRIEGE KOMMERZKACKE

  • PTSD is a bit harder to drop then a financial rip off. John had best intentions, just misunderstood. Love ya John. PTSD sufferer.

  • Why people like (pop-rap-techno-shit) instead this?!

  • I agree I think he should have sang "Fortunate Son" in honor of the Vietnam Vets tribute!!

  • My brother was there, he was a changed person when he got home but he was one of the lucky ones, he did make it home. He had a very hard struggle but he made it through with God's help. He is now a minister for Christ. I'm so proud of our Vietnam Vets!!!!

I don't think JF meant anything disrespectful at all, he was just paying a tribute to the Vets of Vietnam, trying to encourage them, that their life is still worth something to go on an live it.

  • Fogerty is not patronizing the audience here, as some seem to think, or saying "forget it"; he's talking about the general principle that you have to confront pain, understand & accept it, & move on; if you wallow in it, that's the end. It applies to fighting in Vietnam as to any traumatic & painful experience. Nobody has a monopoly on pain to say "I suffered more than you", that's just asinine. Besides, Fogerty & CCR are possibly Vietnam's veterans favourite music.

    Anyway, thanks for the post

  • @kidcalabria I totally agree with you kid

  • @kidcalabria he may have been seeking to help them put things away... but from war - YOU CAN'T.

It haunts, it taunts and sticks with you the rest of your life.. that my friends is a pain that never goes away.

I knew a man from the Navy that had two ships blown from under him... in the water for weeks with his buddy.. his buddy was already dead, he didn't know 'till they pulled half his buddy up... he survived... his pain never went away. Sights and memories don't heal so well.

  • @harbek2000 "I can't"? And in capitals? And "I can't" what exactly? What's that's supposed to mean? I never said that I was gonna abolish war or heal people from painful memories... and that's not even the point obviously, I only left a comment... my God!

  • I think in his openning comments is trying to help the vets. At least, He shows He cares.

  • @essertpitay ''I myself'' don't really think so,so why don't you just drop it to the reality of a nam Vet to that of a John Fogerty or send me a letter yea ya got fucked.

  • @Grunt6869 Well, the audience seemed to be in agreement.

  • @essertpitay take a good, look see that ''super bowl special'' above Ol Mitch Ryder sung that song for free and which I had written as a Vietnam Veteran I ask the people who produce this very show that if we may be able to present the song Drafted to our fellow vets. They were all booked up was the reply as to the image of caring for Nam vets and to the pain of a John Fogerty'' that's what happen'' but who Knew?

  • Johns pain Never carried the dead, or saw flys on the blood,or couldnt breath with a hole in his chest or died a virgin at best carrying a gun to the tune of the rich mans pun.

  • That comment by John Fogerty was pretty clueless but I do think that he said it with best intentions for Vietnam Vets. He's just a lot better songwriter/singer than mental health professional.

  • @ronmale2 First ya can spell Vietnam correctly and then show everybody your 214.

  • best words of wisdom i ever heard

  • hahaha, thats wise words from an Amerikan. What about 9/11? Drop it? Don`t think so. I`ll be surpriced if it takes less than 20 years for you to drop that.

  • How sad that this song, great although it is, still makes so much sense these days, except not just to people at war, but to the poor and homeless in the USA. While I agree with dethmag about the time to let of pain, however, what about these times when the pain just increases day by day, the homeless, the jobless, those without healthcare, the blind man who has only just had someone actually stop and tell him how and where to get help???

  • How sad that this song, great although it is, still makes so much sense these days, except not just to people at war, but to the poor and homeless in the USA

  • easier said than done.

  • the all-american dickhead lol

  • 'The Vietnamese people deeply love independence, freedom and peace. But in the face of United States aggression they have risen up, united as one man.'

    Ho Chi Minh

  • estupendo esas epocas tan bacanas

  • @marcoaugustobravo cool those times were so great.

  • I'm sure he has the deepest respect for all of you who were there. After all he played these songs for the first time in 15 years in HONOR of you...... Like you said, it's not that simple!!!!!

  • It is easy for him to say get on with it as he was back here smokin dope and protesting the war, the only thing he has to get on with is his next paycheck from his anti war songs. I used to like his music, but after hearing him say this he just makes me want to puke.SEMPER-FI

  • to all men and women who have ever served or are serving as we speak, you are ALL worthy of honor. you put your lives on the line, stand up to challenges the average citizen wouldn't. now as you read this, i would also like to thank our fallen heros. when you read this, remember what we've won and protected, but also the price. i salute all who have ever, are, or will ever serve. bless you all, and may you all eventually find peace.

  • svensk text;D

    (swedish text):P

  • should have played fortunate son...

  • @thebesteverfamily nope. "who`ll stopp the (bomb-)rain.." (in Nam)

  • @64fairlane305 oh! yea... got ya

  • Anybody that goes through the horrors of war cannot simply"Drop it".I do not think vets of any wars want to remain mired in the past, but it takes time, and never completely goes away.

  • @Skwerrlly cheers bro

  • @Skwerrlly You arte right. When I'm awake I can control the bullshit toughts but when I sleep it still poisons my mind. I wake up to my wonderful wife telling me "Len, wake up. You were screaming. You were back there again honey." Almost 40 years later and still the bullshit.

  • to all the nam vets thank you for serveing

  • You don't speak for all, we, especially for me as a grunt where I can respond with facts to my Unit being C-company 1-12 4th Infantry or red warrior .us Exactly what outfit did you serve with in Vietnam to your mos? PS did ya ever send your man a letter or did you ever hit the horn once or twice while humping the bush.Yea welcome home sucker to reality.

  • @Grunt6869 attached to the 78th maitenance battallion in Quang Tri, 63C20 ,1970-71. Not a GRUNT, but I was there just the same.

  • We, Vietnam Veterans Of North Florida, were there...this concert was actually moved, with only a few days notice, and it was still packed to the rafters...it was a great Welcome Home party...Fogerty's the man - Creedence on the Walkman, broadcast from AFRTS as a we humped the villes, paddies, and jungles...HELL YES!...John said it for all of us who made it back from Vietnam, and to the concert...Together Then; Together Again...

  • he looks like steve martin with hair.

  • JF's pain of 20 years and a war vets have no comparison. He dropped his pain to play million seller songs that would make him rich again. That was a pretty easy choice. The vet has no choice like that. I know you meant well JF, but walk that mile first... then offer the advice. Thanks.

  • Yea, way too indulgent... here's one I like better:

    And it's one, two, three,

What are we fighting for ?

    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,

    Next stop is Vietnam;

    And it's five, six, seven,

    Open up the pearly gates,

Well there ain't no time to wonder why,

    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

  • Who'll stop the rain. A good song for this wet week.

  • skräll att det är filmat i sverige....

  • Shit Creedence and God got me back to the world . I was happy When I puled the long straw to go th freedom Hill and see Bob Hope . My friend Jimmy is stiil there Dielockpas .... Bless ya Jim

  • Grunt6869 didn't have to go to Nam. He could have stayed home, along with thousands of Jehovah's Witnesses, who backed up their principles with prison time.

  • The guy who thinks fogerty is being indulgent may not know that fogerty is a vietnam vet and is giving good advice. Sorry you didn't get to participate but this is also something you are going to have to drop.

  • @grayspirit03 Actually, he was drafted, but never left stateside, and was discharged within a year. So, no, he is not a Vietnam Vet.

  • God Bless, and a huge thank you to all the war's veterans! Jesus Loves You!!

  • tem uma outra musica chamada fortune representa a guerra

  • Fogerty was wrong in saying what he did. I think he meant well, but it either came out of his mouth wrong or he was misinformed.

Remember in 87 there was a lot less known about PTSD than now. Because of society's views on being a man, nobody knew how badly WWII vets suffered with PTSD their entire lives.

Maybe John would change his statement or apologize if somebody showed him this video today.

At least he did drop his "shit" for the show and do CCR tunes for the 1st time in 20 yrs.

  • @gkctex He served in the RVN I think he earned the right to speak his mind!

  • svenska !!!!!!!!!!!!! :D åäö

  • @cyndesuz Thank you for your kind thoughts and I to wish Mitch Ryder and I had the chance to showcase the Song Drafted and the injustice of the draft where we got paid ten dollar's a day serving combat. Its a great song dealing with the true experience of aNam Vet. Thank you once again.

  • @Grunt6869 respect!! i had my share of war in yugo and iraq. a lot of pictures in my head.have a good day grunt6869.

  • As a civilian, I do not understand the Vietnam pains. And although I agree with Fogerty'smessage here, we will never know what you vets lived.

God bless America, thank you for the sacrifice. That's all I'm gonna say. Thank you from Canada. Cheers guys!

  • John fogerty is actually saying great advice to anyone who has suffered... Life is a challenge for all... Sure, war is hell, but it's all about perspective. No one can ever truly know anothers pain. Suffering is not isolated to war vets, who had a choice of war or a jail term, (not a great choice, but still a choice). The woman gives birth to a mentally and/or disabled child faces a lifetime of pain. The doting father estranged from his kids. The innocent 'lifer' in jail. It's called LIFE...

  • fogerty didnt shaft the vets the gov that drafted them did

  • Fogerty as well as most of the other 60's artists didn't know jack at the time they were writing all those songs. Made some great music but as a child of the 60's I always took their social commentary with a gain of salt and still do.

  • This must be in the 80's!

  • Basically he tells you don't throw away another 20 years of pain, value your life, live it for all the guys that didn't make it home. that's how i feel he meant

  • @Alucard2550 while what he said may apply to some of the vets there, most of them do NOT have the problem of never having faced their demons squarely, and whatever 20 years of personal turmoil Fogerty experienced is like apples and oranges to what most all the vets went through...e.g. if Fogerty had drug problems, then he would be familiar with just one symptom.... the insane, other world, other universe of war tears at the peacetime mush in ways i still can only hope to not imagine.

  • Sad too hear so many bash and flame a guy who always had the highest respect for war veterans even though he didn't approve the Vientnam war he never disliked the soldier's who fought for what they thought was right.

I mean at the time he didn't play these songs live, he was just playing them for you(the vets).

He expresses himself a bit clumsy at the end but i guess he was so "in the moment" but still i think most people understand what he means.

    countine on my next commentary.........

  • sounds better by creedence clear water revival this ones nice but not as good

  • Drop it? I used to absolutely love CCR and Fogerty, but not aftre hearing him say that. FUCK HIM.

  • So he didn't serve ... he wrote a great song about the war ... people say some stupid things when they are young. Why don't you rag on politicians while you're at it who say insensitive things towards vets/war/etc.

  • fucking USA PEOPLE !!!

    ONLY WAR WAR AND WAR

    DONT STAND NOTHING AT ALL

    fuckers!!!

  • Can you really drop it?

  • War veterans are war veterans. I have NEVER heard such whiney crap from any other war vets, only a selection of Vietnam vets. Drug use in theatre didn't help ! Grow, move on, oh brave ones !

  • @horsemad1670 You speak as a Text book bitch from the UK. What you know about da Nam Ol Brave one,A hhhhhhhhaaaaaaaa ''Drug use in theater didnt bother the Beatles . Besides simple soul, Vietnam was never declared a war.Best you move on and get your history straight. and save your insults for your ugly moma.

  • What he said was really, really stupid. But he was trying to be nice and meant well.

  • Alot of you are sadly missing the point of what he was saying, that's too bad. Big or small, it doesn't matter there comes the time when its time to drop the pain and move on. When it's done and there is nothing left to change then its time.

  • @dethmag When I'm awake I can control the bullshit toughts but when I sleep it still poisons my mind. I wake up to my wonderful wife telling me "Len, wake up. You were screaming. You were back there again honey." Almost 40 years later and still the bullshit.

  • John you rocks,,others calm down

  • I always liked CCR until I saw this clip. Still like the others in the group, but Fogerty has no idea what he is talking about. Been forty years, but the pain is still there. Thank God for the VA. I'm still alive.

    Viet Vet '70 - 71'

  • @treehot16 I was thinking the same thing, listening to John. If you haven't been there, you can't speak to 'dropping that shit'... But then, most of my favorite singers say really stupid crap when they wax political.

  • @treehot16

    Thank you for your service.

  • CRC & John Fogerty they were the group that represents the veterans of Vietnam Always they were walking together. Forever.

  • Yes, I recken he could have held back his thoughts on this one. Never tell someone how or what they should feel, If you have never walked in THEIR shoes. Luv this sound

  • espetacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I guess it's easy for someone who was not even there to casually say 'hey, just forget it' I doubt it is that simple John

  • @blackbeltpatriotism

    Drive on Brother

  • @blackbeltpatriotism john was there to

  • @youpornguy112 he was not there. He served in reserves and then got out before going over.

  • Some people are so full of crap it just spills out when they open their mouths or start to write.

  • what he says does not interest me what you like about it is the music, sorry, not all think alike.

  • @bunkofurko

yes--we all feel for your horror story-nobody wins in war-i agree ,you had your life on line--he had a contractional dispute--not the same--and yes--he really should put it behind him--and for the men and veterans still fighting on the field and in their memory and minds--bring back what was the real ccr band--just for the veterans-one more time--extend himself-and what he stood for--when he created, sang those songs--all those years ago--best wishes

  • Hey @sshole.You weren't in the Army. You aren't old enough for gray hair, or any sense. Nobody calls it the "US Army",and nobody kicks our ass.We killed them at a steady rate of 4-1 and 5-1, and with the special forces, jarheads, and CIA we came out with more than an 8-1 kill ratio. Whenever we fought. they hit and ran. They never held a damn thing, except the element of surprise. We are the greatest fighting men and women in the world today, and the troops on the ground in Afghanistan are awesome!

The only thing your handling is "Man Junk" you have stuck up your Dirtshoot Mr. Bitchpuppet.

Go Back to Spanking your Mom for putting your sorry Lying ass on My planet.

  • There's a true sickness to your language maybe there's someone out there who can help you as it seems you can't deal with reality.I have two video s above that support my statements other than that ,no more reply's to your twisted ramblings.

  • Grunt8686

No one cares who you think you are, who you might have been, or why your such a fuck-up

Just go away and Die. You Phony fucking loser.

-Send the fuckin letter, and move the fuck on with whats left of yer goddamned life.

    Shit.

  • Why dont you send a letter to Santa Clause instead and ask for a GI Joe or a DVd of Peter Pan.

  • Grunt 6869 Your a whinebag, A crybaby,A FRAUD,- you were never in SE ASIA you butt pirate, The USA would never sink so low as to have such a parasite as yourself clean a latrine. It sickens me that dregs like yourself have the kahonies to take the thunder away from actual combat personnel so you can parade around as a Poser actor Idiot - We will find you, and feed your dick to the dogs you phoney bastard picklesniffing, girly man, If anyone ever needed to be slapped into place it would be you .

  • look at it this way, he's just trying to tell the vets to stop thinking about the horrors they've lived in war, to drom the bad fellings the bad memories, he's not trying to say he has gone throu combat and war, he just wants those guys to forget about that experience they went by.

  • Youre 21 and know about as much about Vietnam as John Fogerty as he equates his bad Bizzness deals to those who were Drafted to serve in Vietnam . What an INDULGENT punk.

  • i guess you are the real deal, you fucking asshole, i guess you all fucktards that say how dare JF to compare, where just right there, look at the crowd you blind morron, do you see them like anoied?, upset, booing him?....no there not, the got the message , but you didnt, you just want to make some judment over an artist ,trying to put him down for being supportive, you really think he would be there with the veterans to compare to them and say to them bullshit, come on, got to use the head.

  • Dont need a bitch like you or Fogerty to explain the reality of Vietnam to me As I am the real deal that served combat in Vietnam. Now son put down your latest Fogerty cd and visit your local Va Hospital for a little reality check to that of your own ignorance of true life experience.

  • okay i LOVE CCR's music but honestly how dare him to try and speak behalf of true veterans to tell them to move on, this coward was discharged after 1 year in the service aka he's no veteran, these men went through hell and back, im suprised someone didn't go up there and knock his lights out for speaking out of term when it comes to the subject of war he knows not a damn thing. he owe's an apology for even speaking like he went through hell....the only good thing from this is his support.

  • Dont talk it unless ya walk it. Vietnam was never Fogertys reality as it was mine as Mitch Ryder sang the song I wrote of that experience. We tried to get in on this show in 87 thinking having a song written of true experience as a Drafted Infantryman would make a differance.

  • Fogerty pretty much says "I never went to VietNam but I was screwed by Record Industry Executives, so I know where you're coming from.."

As a musician and a VietNam veteran, I find that particularly offensive, and I would like to invite Mr Fogerty to perform an anatatomical improbability

  • john is such an icon to us all

  • ПУСТЬ ПРЕКРАТИТСЯ ВОЕННЫЙ ДОЖДЬ!

  • I have never doubted Fogerty`s conscience. Listen, and get forward!

  • it's difficult to tell by his comments but Fogery NEVER served in Vietnam. He joined Army Reserves, never left the United States, and then left the military after 2 years. I don't understand how he's making him sound like a spokesman for the REAL Vietnam vets.. the guys who were actually there. I don't think John has any place telling the REAL Vets to drop it. He was lucky and never went to Vietnam. The other ones..not so lucky did go. If they don't want to drop it-- that's their decison

  • kind of weird for John, who never served in Vietnam, to tell the Vets to "drop it". John was in the Army but never deployed to Vietnam. One of the lucky ones

  • I know,my father served in the 198th infantry did 3 tours..i dont know how you could tell a vet to drop it...johns talking about his breakup with ccr and not playing their music compared to being in combat killing and seeing your buds die or get wounded..i thought his speech was very shady.

  • which year?

  • OK Lookin at some comments here about John dont know about war.. try-an remember, many of us lost our big brothers and kids.. and fathers.. thanks to war. JUDGE NOT. He said we have to go on.. I dont go on well, I dont 'drop all that sh-- but he is tryin to be upbeat. Judge not.

  • PEACE NOW

  • We have such great songs thanks to that war

  • nice one kvs, love it

  • as long as i remember the rains been coming down clouds of mist keep falling, confusion on the ground looking through the ages trying to find the sun and i wonder, still i wonder who will stop the rain...great!

  • @violetshark clouds of mystery pourin then good men through the ages

  • @violetshark yo mommas ass so big its gon stop da rain fool!

  • @violetshark How do you forget about it? How do I tell my father to forget about it,his friends, and all those others who went through that hell? To this day I sit and watch my dad cry sometimes, with his simple question only,"Why?"

  • Go John yea with your rock¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA! home of the Real rock hell yea lol

  • When is this from?

  • As a Vietnam Vet I wasnt allowed to participate in this show with the song I wrote ''Drafted'' and Mitch Ryder sang.Had to sit back and listen to Fogertys indulgent language to the pain that only Nam Vets knew That Fogerty would never know.

  • That's what happened.

  • I admit, fogerty was kinda glib talkin this sh*t.....But he did say" you got the shaft, you know it, we know it"......he shoulda stopped there, man!!

  • YOu can say that again. I like John....but suggesting that the vets drop their pain....a pain he knew nothing about...was pretty pretentious.

  • @Grunt6869 With all due respect.

It makes no sense for you to have anger towards Fogerty, simply because he joined the Reserves to avoid combat.

You were drafted, and the use of "Grunt," in your username indicates to me that you still feel the pain of lost buddies, and other sensless things that happened over there.

At the same time, I believe Fogerty has nothing but respect for you and all those who served,

    I know you have mine.

    Welcome home.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 I read your reply to grunt6869- While we are in a hot zone guys like Fogerty are at home and sitting on their asses. I haven't seen any proof that he respects any vets. A Grunt is an Infantryman and a title to be proud of. Plus his opening statement was just stupid.

  • @JohnnyQuince Again, with all due respect.

You have a right to your opinion, as I do mine.

I am proud of you and any other person who has served in any branch of the service. I simply wish many more of those of (us) who served would save there anger for the enemies outside this country and respect the fact that you, me, and millions of others have served over the years to give fogerty the right to speak his mind.

    Sgt Ross J. Smith

    Peace.

  • Comment removed

  • @rockinroller7 I'll not bitch out a fellow Marine but comparing a crappy marriage to being in a hot zone is bullshit. Fogerty thinks that make makes him a war vet or something ?

  • @JohnnyQuince

Yeah, can't disagree with that assessment one little bit.

Kind of boggles my mind to hear him say what he did. I always thought he was smarter than that. There is no comparison between 'losing,' a marriage and losing a life.

Sure, both are painful, but I'll take emotional pain over deadly physical pain anyday.

Of course he could have been talking about his legal troubles with his former record label and former bandmates, but that would be even more ridiculous.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @Grunt6869 Talk to me, tell the world, we listen, we are all brothers.

  • @Grunt6869 I was thinking the same thing. Yeah he had his demons for 20 years... but nothing compared to war. Don't draw simularities between the events, Johnnie.

  • @Grunt6869 could not agree with you more. i have listened to and befriended so many vets. from WWI to the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, etc, and if i were to listen to 100,000 more, and if everyone of them was helped and felt i truly understood, still i would never presume to know what they know and feel what they feel. uniquely, individually and as pairs and groups of buddies, these men's minds and sometimes souls were torn, rendered, shredded, etc. Let's let them set their own terms.Amen.

  • @Grunt6869 So sorry that happened to you!Your song means more than any musical celeb any day...

  • @Grunt6869 stfu and listen

  • as long i can hear those fogerty vocals and melodies i'll be ok

  • Fogerty for President!

  • yeah now there's an idea! In the same vein, Roger Waters for Prime Minister...it COULD work :-)

  • GREAT!!!

  • Words well spoken

    S6.

  • what year is this?
