  • Why did this video come up when I searched "Girl With a Pearl Earring"? You're just diluting other people's search results with your crappy videos

  • I love your artwork!

WHOA we share the same dream. I want to make art for bands too :)

Once I improve, I want to make videos like this. Literal artsy video haha.

  • I always paint with a cup of tea by my side xD

  • i love your art but i can't afford it!

don't lower prices though because rich bastards can give you money :)

  • @DisfiguredUnicorn haha I don't think very many rich people know about me =P

  • @MaryVanGils they bloody well should! hmmmmm...

  • what were you using to outline her eyes and such near the beginning?

  • @purplepanda11 Just very watered down greyish blue gouache paint =)

  • sorry it took me 2 days to comment my internet was down yesterday and i had a very long shift at work your art really speaks to me i love it thank you so much for sharing your talent

  • @jonesy9610 Thanks for commenting, I do appreciate it. =) Glad you like the art.

  • I still haven't commented on this video... ANYWHO I love the way you paint, itworks really well and your pictures are amazing. =]

  • @Fundippsoyeah oh thank you miss =)

  • Hey i forgot to ask, what kind of tea do you like for when you paint?

  • @aymyeyehurts Well in the video I was drinking english breakfast, but sometimes I also have chai =)

  • oh wow! i love the haunted, dark mood this piece has! so for this, u used pastels and grosch paint (im not sure what you said) only, is that right?

  • @Belle0393 Ah, thank you! Yep. I used chalk pastels and gouache paint only. =)

  • Some day when I am not broke and I have a fireplace I am going to buy one of your paintings and display it on my mantelpiece!!!!!11!

  • @MimmbleMimmble Aww. I would be honored to have one of my humble paintings on the grand mantelpiece of your awesome future fireplace =)

  • Hope you don't mind me criticizing your art a little bit. I think that it's good and that throughout the time that I've been watching your videos that you've been getting better, but I think that you need to work a little on clothing and textures in the clothing and shadows with it too. I'm no professional, but that's just my take on it. :)

  • @Yuiufil I don't mind the critique =) I tend to skim over clothing, but you're right, I do need to work on it some more. It was just something I was never very good at, so I avoid it =P haha. Not the best tactic really.

  • can't paint without tea ? can't paint/draw without coffee, very nice to meet you !

thanks for sharing, it was Lovely : )

  • @MartianSnow haha it used to be coffee for me, then I converted =P

Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it.

  • "Oh no! Oh no! Her cheek bone is too prominent!" Hahaha that made me laugh. :)

  • @ChristopherFilm hehe, there were a few more 'oh no! oh no!' type moments that I had to cut out. Every painting has at least three of them =P

  • @MaryVanGils Haha I quite agree.

  • This is really cool Mary!

  • @Iamoftheunseen Yay! Thank you =D

  • That is super. Pleasantly dreary. :)

  • @Cohenism But it is also hopeful ^_^ Do you not see the glowiness she is reaching towards? haha. Thanks for watching Jake!

  • ohw, this is so much fun to watch! you should do it more often, and I love the way you talk, HAHAH <33 beautiful painting! ~^.^~

  • @nyachankawaii haha glad you enjoyed it! There shall be many more like this in the future, I'm sure =)

  • oh my god!!i gotta pictures really simmilar with ur picture......

do u go to art school????

im graduating art school this year!!!

In some way ur picture looks great!!!!!!

  • @Canigetawitchwitch ah, that's cool! I don't go to art school at the moment, but I will be going next year. Yay for graduating! Good for you.

  • wonderful =) i`d love to see more of these arting time videos.

  • @rebelx2 Glad you liked it! There shall be more arting videos for sure =)

  • awesome video, you should do more videos talking about your art process/making art!

  • @alyiswriting I definitely will =)

  • Great vid. I find your work very thought provoking. Hope you don't mind that statement, it is mean't as a compliment. I love the characters expression and wonder if the colours used in this piece is a reflection of the mood felt by both or either the character or yourself the artist.

  • @4svennie Aw thanks! The colours and moods in my art are always a reflection of both myself and the character I'm painting, because usually the character itself is some reflection of my mood =)

  • @MaryVanGils Thank you very much for your reply. I do hope I haven't taken you from your work. Though I do love how you have acknowledged and replied to ell comments, which is no mean feet. Art becomes more when an artist puts some of themself into there work. It stops being a canvas and becomes an entity in it's own write. Insomniatic Dreams should be on my doormat soon, hopefully. Yay. I'll go, and I wish you a great day ahead of you.

  • @4svennie Ah well, I don't really get that many comments, so it's not hard to reply! I actually really enjoy commenting everyone back =)

Thanks again for watching and commenting! Hopefully Insomniatic Dreams will indeed get to you soon. Keep on being lovely!

  • @MaryVanGils yayy! Thanks for more :D <33 ~^.^~

  • @MaryVanGils Thank you. Please don't sell yourself short though, there may in your view be few comments, but people don't always articulate what there thinking, for some those thoughts a personal even if they relate to someone else. All your subscribers appreciate you and your work. Thats why we watch. Well it's alovely day here, I hope it is there too, I'm off to enjoy my Land Rover coffee. Go and have a great day, but be great too.

  • i stick my paintbrush in my tea all the time!!! haha

  • @hiitsmerachael Glad to know I'm not alone! =P

  • I like this, I dont know why. Lol

  • @andymonchaos Well I'm glad that you like it!

  • Guache is so legit. It works well with like every other medium. :D

  • @lucysour YES. I love it so much. =D

  • @MaryVanGils Oh my God, I left that comment before I finished watching the video. I've stuck my paintbrush in my tea SO MANY TIMES. Well done, haha.

  • I really liked watching you paint. I have no clue about anything to do with drawing and visual arts so it was very interesting. The picture turned out lovely. :)

  • @TallShortGirl Yay! I'm happy you enjoyed it! Thank you =)

  • You're soo amazingly silly, I love it :)

and the painting looks lovely :)

  • @KatersWorld bahah. Glad you don't mind the silly =P

  • You have one of those corner curvy desks! I've always wanted one of those. So awesome.

  • @Nanalew yes! I love this desk. Though, it's huge a massive pain to move, so I might not have it after our next move D=

  • This is soo cool!!!

you should totally post more videos like this

  • @aymyeyehurts ahh, glad you liked it! I will post more like this =D

  • I feel kinda privileged :D I've been wondering, do you ever name the characters you paint?

Btw, remember the story I told you about my favourite singer? Well, I texted her today to wish her a happy mother's day, cos she's pregnant, and she texted me back TWICE and I went hyper xD Never ever ever give up on Switchfoot, you wil make it, I'm positive :D

  • @Lilith89ibz I don't usually name them, no. I think i might have done it for one or two though.

Aww. that's so awesome about your favorite singer. Such an encouraging story you have there! =D I shall not give up on Switchfoot! haha. Who knows, maybe they'll call me. bahah. So unlikely, but you never know. =P

  • Gouache is pretty sweet. Pastels are even more sweet. I use them all the time. n____n And your painting is amazing. I love your style. I agree, this is one of your best paintings you've done in a while. 8D

Also, I second what David said. You should make more videos like these.

  • @Sarahendipity What's best is gouache and pastels together though! =D haha. I like that gouache dries with that matte, chalky texture, so it looks so nice with pastel. *happy sigh* Thank you Sarah! Really happy you like the painting.

There shall indeed be more videos like this! =D

  • You have the same speakers that I do! This looks so scary to do. I had no idea there was so much 'outside the lines' type actions.

  • @THEGrumpyTed yay for speaker twins! haha it is actually pretty scary to do; I used to hardly ever paint because I was too afraid of messing up.

  • WOW!!! I loved watching you paint, made me want to make art too! Please continue posting videos like this =)

    Kiss

  • @GigiinSP haha aw, glad you liked it! I will make more videos like this one for sure, it was really fun to do =D

  • Mary, you are adorable! ^_^

amazing piece of art, as always! :D

  • @zerothreegreen YOU ARE. <3

  • okay much better now lol this was very cool Mary, you should make another video like this. I should give painting another shot, since i have so much Gouche paint left over.

  • @Dav1dThe5trange I'm glad you liked it! Definitely will be doing more videos like this, it was fun to make. You should try painting again! Don't let good gouache go to waste! =)

  • @MaryVanGils i have this tree man i want to paint, but i think im going to use watered down ink, and maybee a very small amount of green gouche. we'll see though.
