  • @barrelover4life; if this is correcting, abuse wille be the poor horses death. I worked for Tom in the 90ties, he was correct with his horses at the time. This has nothing to do with horse training whatsoever in my opinion. Sickening, unfortunately this happens a lot, but as long as they keep winning the big money nobody is going to stop any of them. worst thing is; people take this as an example...........

  • One thing my reining coach taught me was to NEVER Yank on the horses mouth. some riders make me cringe

  • Because.. Yeh, if you just pull the reins a little harder, the horse will totally understand what you want him to do.. Of course.

  • how do you people ever expect to train a 1000 pound horse without occasionally using rein pressure. WOW.

  • I like reining...but this makes me sick....

  • I dont think he was being cruel to the horse. But so much of his riding is wrong. His seat, his hands and his feet are just...wrong. So many mixed signals to this stud. He seems like an honest horse, with a rider who needs some tuning up himself.

  • If that is Reining, I'm the pope!

  • @trogirogri soo let me guess you are a "natural horsemanship" person? so your horse is trained to do nothing, is most likely a back yard shiter with no value...yeah sounds about right, so your horse probably cant stop, +turn, or anything a Open Caliper reiner does&if u knew anything about riding/horses you would know that riding with spurs isnt mean nor is it a bad things because you dont ride with your spurs they are re enforcement when needed. That is why you remain in the backyard with a POS

  • Dammh,, Poor Horse,, Its just Cruel,,

  • Ha you mean the "ntural horsemenship" guys who buy and have all their horses in training with these so called "horrible" trainers? yeah they are great marketers and do a fine job lying to the people they sell to they dont train anything they own they are all sent out to people like Tom. And yes they do have free style and people ride bridle-less you think that the horse just does it for sugar cubes and carrots? lol if so wow you have a lot to learn they all went threw this same training program

  • @pocolena287 i can ride a horse bridleless and he does it for nothing - no sugar cubes nor carrots nor spurs nor fear. You obviously have no idea of how horses work. Why do you support this man when he is obviously cruel to his steeds? Grow up!

  • He's trying to give the horse commands when his own balance sucks and his saddle is slipping..

  • @gwurr Exactly. How can the horse perform when the rider is all screwed up?

  • My 4 year old daughter just asked me while we were watching this video together "Mom, is that a yanking competition?"

  • Yank yank yank, pull pull pull, kick kick kick, come on give this horse a break! He is intimidated enough and afraid of you, looks like he has given so much already!

  • On top of all the pulling, kicking and yanking around these people don't even have good seats. They are practically sitting on the horses neck and hanging off their faces. Yuck!

  • Dear lord people learn something before you comment! A horse at this level what you think they are trained with apples and carrots lol that would be a BIG NO, and please you people and your my horse is trained naturally and is so gooood you couldn't dear step into a level like this. Your horses are not trained, not even half way responsive, nor have the slightest correction needed to do any of this. Good job Tom keeping em tuned up, and for you "natural horsemen ship " people you should see wh

  • @pocolena287, maybe you should work on your own horses' mouth problems. Your videos say it all. Sure, you can ride. Your horses' mouth was constantly open, trying to get away from the great big honkin' bit. Sad. Funny how "cowboys" need such big bits. Punch anything long enough, it will go dead. Like a horses' mouth.

  • @pocolena287 Its dumb asses like you that screw up great horses!!!! I imagine you likely beat your wife too!!!!

  • @pocolena287 The point of Natural Horsemanship is that is teaches the horse to be soft and responsive WITHOUT the pain caused by yanking on their mouths incessantly like this man here is doing with his horse. Seriously, people do reining competitions without bridles on their horses. This is just laziness leading to the quickest way to correct the horse possible, regardless of the discomfort and fear it causes. All I see here is a horse with bit avoidance problems in the future

  • Thia guy is being way to rough on his horses mouth, thats not horsemanship thats scaring the.horse into doing what you want it to do!!!

  • It actually seemmed like there were a couple other people in there that dont agree with...

  • Rollkur für noch Ärmere......

    nicht zu fassen!

  • Made mistake wrong video still abuse.

  • Standing up in stirrups at the end of stop and right elbow coming back past the waist and snatching on this horse's is abuse plain and simple.Horse is very intimidated.Sorry but I am not buying that.Video don't lie.He just got caught with his pants down.Great job Eponatv keep up the good work.

  • There is a diffrence between abusing and corrcting.. and this is correcting.. learn the diffrence

  • @barrellover4life

Sure there is a difference between correcting and abusing. Its not harsh abuse, but it isnt the way you should be correcting, sometimes he was giving the horse confusing messages. If the horse doesnt understand whats asked, you cant correct, you teach or train.

  • @barrellover4life - jerking on the face of a horse is never "correcting". That would be like me punching someone because they're standing too close to me, instead of gently asking them to leave my personal space. Gets the same job done - but one way is inappropriate, cruel and bully like.

  • Tom and Bill Dorrance and Ray Hunt were true horsemen. They considered the horse above all else!I guess just long as a horse abuser wins through pain and intimidation that makes it okay uh?They might be able to ride a horse but that doesn't make them horsemen!True horsemanship comes through developing willingness/Partnership.

  • I don't know if any of you all have heard of Dennis Reis, but he's a dressage trained cowboy who trains his horses only in a light snaffle that I've seen--it follows the horse's tongue perfectly with no pressure on their bars. He says as you move higher up, you shouldn't need a bit or even a hack and that the sign of true horsemanship in reining comps is to not even use the reins at all and the bit is there to look pretty. Maybe these guys need a refresher course :)

  • @Whisperedwanders How much has Dennis Reis won? Has he ever shown a horse in a horse show?

  • @sirdustin16

Sry dazu muss ich jz auchmal was sagen xD

    LG

  • Unfortunately this is 'normal' in these circles. Please do not let trainers treat our horses this way! Find a better way, any way, just a better way. Tom and Bill Dorrance, and Ray Hunt are rolling in their graves. SHAME on you!!

  • dude you hurt that horse !!!

  • please put your heels down

  • theres good and bad trainer, good and bad horses, good and bad people everywhere.

  • OMG Gold medalist..... What in ABUSE well done TOM...........

Someone needs to grow a pair and sort this mess out...

I have some very good up and coming horses to compete at this level but i would never violate them in this way..... I would rather stay at home.... The world is changing and I will do my best to see it happen. You should be ashamed.......

    WE ARE ON YOUR CASE..........

  • This is the real corrections when you are training a horse

  • @cttlerncher, so says the sadist.

  • @AnimalLeftist i dont say if is good or bad i just only said that MAYBE is what the horse needs

  • Once again, a great example of large men on little horses, yanking, jerking, running them into walls, forcing them to hold their heads at completely unnatural angles. Gaping mouths, obvious pain and morons saying "What? Everything Is Alright", jeez. As a lifelong horse person, I just don't get it.

  • I dislike this video because you are making a well know professional trainer and money earner look bad when hes not.

  • poor pony!!!

  • When the horse was listening and paying attention to him and did things right Tom was petting the horse. You also showed a lot of stops where the horse wasnt bulking and was stopping really nice and toms reins were draped, he didnt touch the horses mouth... Most reining horses are "sensitive" I guess you could say they are touchy with their cues and very athletic therefore a rider getting after a horse can look like a lot more then it is.

  • Great u guys are beating up on McCutcheon Now??? I see nothing wrong with this. when the horse drops it front end and stops using it back end he gentley picks him up. when he stays in frame he leaves him be. honestly people get a life and leave these people alone!!

  • up untill a month ago I wanted to be a reiner...the first video I saw was a Epona video fro mthe same event where the rider TORE the horses mouth right off...

I want nothing to do with this sport if this is what it takes to compete at the highest level, I would hang my head lowered then these spirit beaten horses if i treated an animal like this

the titles of all these videos should be " doing it to get it done, not to do it right"

  • Comment removed

  • I have to say a little world. I'm dressage rider too but my horse lives on a western barn. so I can explain some things. for example: The spures are not as hard as some people think because the wheels. and it looks at would the riders pull heavy on the bit but the have to take the hands high because the reins are so long. I DO NOT a agree with all of the things they do here but some of this looks more hard than it is because people of other kind of riding don't understand the backround.

  • And what is wrong with 3:34 to 4:03??? jut asking

  • He doesnt know how to handle with the reins and with the spurs....poor horse

  • !!!thumbs up if you support EPONAs good work!!!

  • @farbschlacht- good work? this is attacking another adult just to get themselves attention, to be on their side! ughhh you people make me so sick. THIS IS NOT ABUSE!! ill post a video with me doing "worse" than tis.

  • I just try to understand these riders... does this HELP at all to win? in what way does it help??

  • I forgot to ask: was the warm up arena open for everyone or for members of the press only?

  • @farbschlacht There was open and free access for everyone when we were there. With the exception of Aachen, we have never come across a closed schooling area at an FEI event.

  • @eponatv They must feel very safe. I just wrote an angry note to the FEI, but I'm not expecting an answer

  • @farbschlacht what you guys are doing is ruining the sport of reining at any FEI events. Pretty soon, NO ONE will come. Go to ANY top training barn and you will see this everyday. I have also seen it in the jumpers and the dressage horses. Not to mention the pleasure horses. Why dont you just ban riding horses all together.... This is absolutely crazy that you guys are putting these videos up like this

  • @TJPerformance but why do you believe that no one will come? I saw other vids from this event, and there are enought people cheering, who dont care about the bad riding they just saw. I'm sure EPONA doesnt ruin the sport, they try to improve it. saying, that theses methods are very common doesnt make them legal or fair.

  • Respond to this video... Sorry that was supposed to go to EPONA TV not to you farbschlacht.

  • @farbschlacht I'd never thought it would happen, but the FEI answerd with a link to a press release. They plan to change the rules, but not until January 2012. Let's hope the new rules have more effect, than the LDR "rules". It says further: "However, due to the lack of authenticated evidence such as original unedited video footage, no further action can be taken against any individuals." That looks just like an excuse not to get in trouble with these riders.

  • @farbschlacht The "lack of video evidence" could not have affected the decision of the Chief Steward not to stop this riding unless he had powers of clairvoyancy, because he did not even know until the following week that there would be any video evidence, let alone whether he would have access to it. The dark haired steward you see in some of the footage is Chief Steward Eric Straus. He had full authority to stop this, with or without video, but he chose not to. Very simple.

  • @eponatv Not to care about animal rights seems to be a neccessity to get a stewards job at such events. Let's just hope the FEI doesn't release another bag of hot air with the new rules. Hope never dies, right!?!

  • His "riding" is even more extreme, than the methods of the other two you postet before. How is it possible, that the stewards had nothing to say about this. These bad methods seem to swap from one rider to another. Dressage riders and showjumpers pull more, western rider are yanking the reins.

  • I can't see ANY rider in each of the videos without cruelty methods, Hyperflexion or aggressive movements. Poor Horses. Why do people treat their horses in such bad ways?? I really can't unterstand this...

  • @kora349 you just need to go on your trail rides or use them as pasture ornaments.... they are bred to do a job. ALL of them. You take 1200 lbs and take yourself.... whose gunna win? They are....

  • @TJPerformance so because they are bred to performe, it's o.k. to treat them unfairly and use training methods wich clearly effect the horses health. What kind of logic is this?

  • @farbschlacht I know :( Its sad their horses not machines.

  • dare I even ask were there any riders who rode clean and in a horsefriendly way? :(
