What you do is, black has the first move, and both players place a stone on intersections of the board in alternating turns, trying to surround territory. Territory is any number of free intersections that you have enclosed with your stones. When no more "unsettled" territory is left on the board, the player who has more territory in total, wins.

@raostar Also, if you enclose stones of your opponent and they cannot "live" (this is a bit difficult to understand at the beginning) they will become your prisoners and also count as points.

Last but not least there's a special rule that the board must never have exactly the same constellation twice during a game. (Ko-Rule)

Toya meijin challenged hikaru and when hikaru saw meijin's fingertips seemed to be 'glowing', he wanted to be able to put down stones like that. When hikaru was focused, he did snap down the stone on his own but he thought that sai controlled his body so he ran out screaming.Also when he tried to snap down a stone later, he could not so he was fixed that sai took control of his body. (From hikaru no go vol.1)
