God Help me ha ha! I like this guy! I have seen him a few times and he's a drop dead phenomenal guitarist and he's funny! I remember once in Pittsburgh some drunk guy came up to Richard and asked him to sign his shirt which he had already done and he reminded the guy but was gracious enough to sign it a second time That's what a guy he is! Then he gave us a look and we all busted out laughing! He's so funny! What a monster performer!
saw RT in sacramento years ago. one man show _ just a WOW show! my favorite song that night was "How will I ever be simple again" (sad) - and- not sure, but it was something he called "my father was a mummy" (fun). thanks for posting this!
Thank you for posting this clip....this comes from Richard Thompson Band US Tour 1999, Barrymore Theater, Madison WI, 26-9-1999, it was an excellent show, another Richard Thompson Band US Tour 1999 @ Phoenix Concert Theatre, Toronto 24-11-1999 was uploading by me.
Awful guitar solo. But I hear Richard's arthritis is getting better.
That baritone sax is awful, too, but it does blend in with the out of tune guitar. Gives it a kind of Indian quarter tone feel. Thank God for Danny Thompson on Bass. At least there is some gold in those quasi-country hills!
This comes from an Andy Summers fan. Tho' as time goes by, Andy looks more and more like Harpo Marx-- and I know he could not play the harp OR piano as good as Harpo-- it is quite likely Harpo could kick his ass on the guitar, as well. Or Groucho, for that matter. Quasi-country!? indeed. Animal crackhead.
I'm the person that produced and directed this show and I do wish it was available.
The bottom line is that I had word of mouth agreement with his management and it wasn't honored. Subsequent deals didn't guarantee that I'd get money back so that's where we left it. I've still got all the footage, audio multitracks, etc...in storage and maybe someday you'll get to see it all. I hope so because it was an excellent show and the music was phenomenal.
This was never released in it's entirety due to contractual issues between RT's management and the maker...which is a bloody shame as it looks and sounds so much better than the 'Providence' set we ended up with..
I'm a die-hard metal fan but RT as a guitarist/songwriter has no comparission to anyone else on the scene. Truly remarkable. His whole band excels over any peers he may have.
Awesome! I just found out about this guy a month or two ago and now I can't get enough! Does anyone know the names of all the songs? I know first is 'Cooksferry Queen', second is 'Hard on Me', does anyone know the ones after those?
dude get "semi-detatched mock tudor" it's a live show or collection anyway, totally incredible. clapton is tired, no offence. and obviously if you get the chance to see rt live... oh my god.

schizoid in the segues, but one can't miss the signature that burns so "hard on me", will you post the whole song?

Hard on Me is great. Should have been a hit.

Awesome. Not only the finest singer/songwriter of his generation, but a guitar player without peer. Nice posting, Mantraslider.
