im working on a 1974 Rinker and I've cleaned it up for the most part but still needs work i like the vinyl floor where did you get it from and how hard is it to work with ? I have pictures on my facebook and could use some advice and help with seats and what I should keep and trash
That's a perfect restoation for that boat.... The boat is nice but it's not like restoring something that will be a collectors item... It's nice small boat...I like it.
@gwad1961, I can somewhat understand why he didn't want to replace the transom in his boat, I own the exact same boat but with a '74 Merc1500 on it and if you've ever seen the transom up close in one of these boats it requires separating the deck from the hull to replace the transom. Which I'm going to have to do to mine soon, not looking forward to that!
@Formula4001972 I can understand that, for I had to do the samething to my powercat, I had to seperate halves, but I chose to go so far up then split it that way. I have pics of it if you care to see them.
First of all I want to say that you did an excellent job. It looks really good. But why take shortcuts? I am getting ready to restore a 1968 Powercat 15T and I personally would not take the shortcuts that you took. Not to sound bad its just that I dont understand why? If one is going to do something like this why not do it right?
@missinglink66 Exact;u what shortcuts are you talking about? Assuming the core hull was solid...interesting comment. Love the boat it would be funny to watch it with a 300hp motor piddling past a big block jet boat
@kwaky2005, I was the one that replied under the missinglink66 name. The shortcuts I was refering to was as you can see in the video he states the transom was soft, so instead of replacing the transom he simply epoxied over the seam, thus leaving the wet soft wood to continue to rot. Instead of replacing the floor which was probably soft as well he simply covered it up with more wood. Thus adding more weight. The boat looks really good I will say. Excellent job mind you.
I have the exact same boat, v170, and my boat looks worse than yours before you began. I put a force 125hp motor about 15 years ago, so mechanically its ok, but boy it could use the tender lovin care you put into yours, bravo, you are an inspiration to me. She's a beauty!

Try grinding out all the timber in the floor, thats patience and elbow grease.
