So... does Cowslip look like some sort of dope-head to anyone else? (I thought he was supposed to be big and handsome and black. Here he resembles that of a chocolate-covered ragdoll...)
I don't like the beginning of this video, It has been revealed to me, that painterly set pieces look much too more realistic compared to the characters & animation. They don't seem to match togeather. Don't get me wrong I am liking the movie so far plot-wise, but art and art direction is a very bad place for any animated movie of any kind to be flawed like this in. As for the drawing. I've seen done better 10 years before this one, heck, in some scenes, I can say movies 40 years ago done better.
@omarisnotaloosa Yes they did. It was just at the very beginning, when they were in the bogs. Three rabbits, the aforementioned ones, were uncertain of where they were headed and wanted to go back. Later, of course, everybody started working together and didn't question each other. :D
@mostpiousheathen movies were made different than the books to avoid lazy teenagers who-were-supposed-to-read-the-book-for-english-class just watching the movie, claim that "They read the book", and recite the book word-for-word as they saw it in the movie.
Where are you going stream?, far far away. Take me with you stream, take me on your Dark journey, Lord Frith oh take me, take me far away to the hearts of light. The silence, I give you my breath, my life... the silence...
Thank you for that, I stand corrected. I always assumed that any animal whose teeth continue to grow and will do so even without something to gnaw on was a rodent. You're right though, I've checked that out. Well said. ;)
@thehorsegirl93 Actually, the weirdest thing about this movie is what the rabbits call somethings; they called our cars "Rhududus". Isn't that kinda strange?
@2002tiif Read the book. Actually, I loved Felidae, but you really can't approach Watership Down the movie without reading the book. There are just some things the movie, good as it is, had to leave out. Is there a book for Felidae? Nein, ich denke nicht!
@Churchcantor its like a rule: when you make a movie out of a book, you leave half the book out. its mostly little details, but sometimes they leave big events out. And usually, when you see the movie first, it somewhat ruins the book, because then you keep waiting for the added parts to come in when they never don't.
look, I think you should all stop arguing because every child is different. Some CAN handle heavy stuff like this movie, but I also know several who can't without getting nightmares. Lumping all kids together to decide what they should watch isn't fair, so just make sure to keep that in mind when your discussing the ethics of showing bloody rabbits to kids.
wow... i watched this when i was about 7 with my sister and i remember thinking , "Look at the bloody bunnies!! Cool..." Now I watch this and i'm like, "Where are the zombie rabbits???"
this movie is for anyone and everyone i have no clue why everyone is going on about what age you need to be to see the movie. its a great movie, and im going to show it to my kids as soon as i think they will be able to grasp the main points of the plot. i think everyone should, and then they should read it later on so they can again appreciate it in a new way, being able to see the statement about human development and overpopulation, government, religion, etc.
@xxrobloxiaxx The story line is the same, but there's a lot of differences, some characters aren't in the movie at all, like Bluebell (he was supposed to be with Holly, he's the comedian in the book), Strawberry who joins them from the warren with all the wires, Blackavar doesn't die in the book, there's a lot more rabbit-mythos side stories. The book actually made me cry at the end. I'd hate to be cliche, but I'd definitely recommend reading the book, it's a much different experience.
great film , love it , this'll sound crazy but i find the fact that there's blood and stuff in the film, makes it more interesting don't ask me why i just do lol, i truly think and believe it's not for kids
@RachelNo1mjfan88 yet almost everyone i know who read the book and saw the movie was a kid when they first saw it. i think its for anyone who can look past a little blood and stuff. its a story that shouldnt really have anything to do with age everyone should read and watch the damn thing.
@MidnightWolf669 no this is not a kids film. But I think many kids wanted to see this just because it was animated and had rabbits in it.. and when the film went on the truth of the film got to them heh ;)
@LyricNyanCat the book was anything but made for small children, and here they didnt soften the story one inch. So no I really dont see why any would see this as an animation made for children of all age.. Btw- atm am reading firebringer, a book written like 20yrs after watership down. Some WD-fans claim it´s a pure ripoff but I tell ya, if firebringer would have been made into animation, WD WOULD have looked like kids film compared to that!
@Jefrma it was made for children though, if not small ones. the author told it to his kids thats how its started. I would say like 7 or 8 would be a good age to read the book and then watch the movie. really though i dont see why kids shouldnt watch the movie. i wouldnt let a 3 year old watch it, but it is a kids movie for the most part, that can be re appreciated later in life
@jthundercat23 ..I doubt adams told his kids the bloody and violent parts. Sure this is concidered a fiction/fantasy for young adults but 7-8yrs?? You´d have to be at least ten if not older to understand what the hec is even going on in the story! For a child under 10yrs I´d say it´s just too complicated.
@Jefrma yah but you wouldnt know if he did or not! maybe his kids werent a bunch of pansies..hahaha well i was made to read to it at (around) that age, prlly more like 8 or 9 though and your right i didnt really get all of it or anything like that, there were probably things that went over my head until i read it later, but i still loved the book, and i understood the basic plot. not saying everyone should read it that would be the youngest i would let someone watch the movie.
@jthundercat23 a kid that age not liking watching violence and blood floating aint a pansie, but a NORMAL kid. and if I´d find a small kid actually LIKING to watch such, I´d suggest their parents to remove all such games, movies and books from their house for a while, since such case would be not only creepy but also alarming. I might read my child stories of el ahrairah, and proceed from there by the time he/she gets older.
@ShroomyGurl Hello :) Just read that bit in the book. Cowslip's warren is so perfect because a farmer puts out food for them and grows them big and healthy, then he traps a few of them. He's farming them basically. But the rabbit's are living in denial, there is always food for them so they refuse to acknowledge the truth that they're being farmed and never speak about the traps or anyone who dies. Any help? :)
@GeorgeThoughts Yes, thanks. :P As a matter of fact, shortly after posting this, I got to the chapter where I found out that Cow Slip's warren is being farmed. I am really loving the book! ^0^ I'm halfway through it already!
@ShroomyGurl It's wonderful that people are reading the book for the first time due to the posting of the movie. It's the kind of book that can change one's life!
@ShroomyGurl That is a good observation; I have read the book several times, and professional critics make the point that one of the major themes of the book is the English countryside! (Seems maybe that comment was on the back of the book.)
@Churchcantor This is my first time reading the book, and I can't believe what I've been missing out on for all these years. :D
To be honest, I didn't really notice it until I read the comment on the back of the book; and then I was like "Oh yeah! :P The english countryside description is so vivid and beautiful!"

@mmirzzi a man feeds them while periodically taking them (for food or fur, presumably). The old rabbit wants to reap the benefits of a free meal while sacrificing the unsuspecting strangers...
@Arenicolous It's all in the book. The warren was originally a big one, then myxmatosis (sp?) came and most of the rabbits died. The farmer nearby decided to reap the benefits of the nearby warren rather than keep the rabbits on his farm. He shot all the elil (rabbit enemies) and put out food far away from the warren so that the rabbits would get used to going about the fields. Then he put out snares. The rabbits then forgot all rabbit customs, danced and sang, and made poems about death.
@mmirzzi, your comment is a month old but I'll answer anyway :D Cowslip will not tell Hazen n' friends where the others are because...well to be mostly spoiler-free, it's forbidden to ask where anybody is in Cowslip's warren, because if you don't know where they are, there's a good chance they're dead.
aaaah shit! I'm watching Watership Down the first time in my life, I have never heard of it before, I have no idea how it's going to end or what's going to happen, though after reading these comments I'm pretty sure it's not going to be anything nice and good....... I'm afraid to watch more <:D

This might be the most fucked up movie ever but it might just have the most epic and beautiful sound track ever written.

@mmirzzi a man feeds them while periodically taking them (for food or fur, presumably). The old rabbit wants to reap the benefits of a free meal while sacrificing the unsuspecting strangers...
Arenicolous 8 months ago 4
@Arenicolous It's all in the book. The warren was originally a big one, then myxmatosis (sp?) came and most of the rabbits died. The farmer nearby decided to reap the benefits of the nearby warren rather than keep the rabbits on his farm. He shot all the elil (rabbit enemies) and put out food far away from the warren so that the rabbits would get used to going about the fields. Then he put out snares. The rabbits then forgot all rabbit customs, danced and sang, and made poems about death.

heyy, can someone tell me, i never understood why doesnt he tell about the others at 8:00 ?? and what the hell is going on there? :D
mmirzzi 8 months ago
@mmirzzi, your comment is a month old but I'll answer anyway :D Cowslip will not tell Hazen n' friends where the others are because...well to be mostly spoiler-free, it's forbidden to ask where anybody is in Cowslip's warren, because if you don't know where they are, there's a good chance they're dead.
StormeDragon666 7 months ago
That scene in Cowslip's warren creeped the SHIT out of me as a kid.
