  • man i saw this movie last night and it was soo bad. horrible film making. so many facts are misconstrued. 100% sensational. even the irrelevant points made in the movie are false. and all the so-called family owned bateyes actually belong to the CEA, old abandoned state owned sugar mills. I heard that the film maker, Bill Haney went to high school with one of the family members attacked in the film. Guess they didn't get along back then, so he decided to attack the family now... BAD MOVIE!

  • MY Story,

For 14 years str8 i've been going to DR and back in 96 i started noticing how the hatian population was rising. We didnt think anything bad of it most of them worked selling ice cream buliding houses and what not. But as the years went on i started noticing that the women migrating over wheren't doing anything to improve their life other than beg for money. I saw this hatian lady at the same corner year after year begging for money 1st time i saw her she was pregnant....

  • i felt bad and gave her a few DOLLARS not pesos.

the next year i went saw the baby was big and she was pregnant again but again i gave her like 10 dollars.

Year after that same story now with 2 kids and she was still there right in front of the dollar exchange place. Again year after that i went now the kids where big enough and she had them begging for her while she sat down pregnant AGAIN. I didnt give them money i bought the kids food and drinks.

  • when they got back to her she yelled at them i guess she wanted money instead of food. NEXT year i go back same woman now with 3 kids and another woman with like another 2 kids all in the same spot begging not the adults but the kids.

she was well dressed siting on a lawn chair looked pretty healthy to me. I gave each of the kids 1 dollar and as soon as they got back the 2 ladies took it from them ...now the kids where crying and i called them back and gave each of them another dollar.

  • meanwhile all the hatian men i saw and met where working ...And not for no F*cking 90 cents a day thats all bullshit.

What they got paid depended on the type of work they did. they did get paid less than dominican workers but they had no problem with it ..Back in 98 i remember the ones working around my town where getting paid btween 75-125 pesos a day with an exchange rate btween 15-16 pesos for every u.s. dollar u do the math and tell me if thats 90cents a day.

  • 2. Maybe in the US 3 or 4 dollars/8 hours sound like a misery but for many countries in latinamerica that´s all they get and sometimes like in Haiti things are even worse, that is why haitians keep coming happily to work in the bateyes because it´s WAY MORE than what they can dream to earn in Haiti.

  • @evilchihuahua20

thank you for actually saying the truth.

  • 1. Buhlut, if you would take your time to do some reseach before making a dumb comment you would actually realize that first of all "90 cents a day" is just a crappy lie told by these people to make dummies like you that do not take time to research anything end up believing this crap. Google "resolucion 2/2007" and you will see that the minimum salary on the sugar fields for dominicans and foreigners is 3-4 dollars/8 hours :)

  • Comment removed

  • Dominicans are able to export more AIDS all over the world b/c their PROSTITUTES are being shipped world wide.

  • Sure, go get your people out of the D. R. and give them jobs and pay them americans wages.

  • @GWOZAGO

bet that earthquake changed ur mind about dominicans.

  • Dont you love when she talks about "hired for 90 cents a day"...If she was smart she would understand that the salaries in the caribbean and latinamerica are not the same you would get in the USA. But if she wants we can send em all to the USA so that they can give them good jobs, with social security, air conditioner, helmets and gatorade :)

  • Well I'm smart and I live in the caribbean and 90 us cents a day cant do squat in any island. If you were smart you would get your facts right before you start dropping insults.

  • guys i know that the problem is bad really bad but you have to understand that some people will take advantage of the poor and beside dominicans are not the only one that have problems whit hatians look at this video(Can You See Us? Part 1) and you will see that the bahamians have problems whit them too and they are as black as any hatians are they racis too or is it because like dominicans the bahamians want to build a good country for theyr own people and dont have the money to help others?

  • HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death among women of reproductive age.Prevalence is highest(5% of adults) among low income groups...Prevalence among females commercial sex worker(prostitutes)is about 8%,reaching 12% in some cities.TB is the largest opportunistic infection for PLWAs.PAHO estimates that over 100 persons per 100,000 are infected...

  • "...100,000 are infected with with TB,versus 2.6 per 100,000 in the Barbados,& 4.9 per 100,000 in Jamaica. The 5,320 reported cases in DR are the higest in the Latin America & Caribbean region"

  • this gets so out of hand and becomes personal. this isnt a situation of haiti and dominican republic but a personal issue between people who want to fight an argue like a bunch of kids. lets keep things in perspective and stop tearing each other up.this is worse than whats going on in our countries. cibaeno soy!!!!

  • "The Dom. Rep. has 120,000 ppl living with AIDS(PLWAs),9 times the total # REPORTED CASES.About 20,000 ppl have died from AIDS in the past decade

  • and most of those are hatians.

  • Gwazago, you´re so funny...go do your ooga-ooga around a tree.

  • I prefer human flesh,roasted or boiled.

  • I prefer human flesh,roasted or boiled.

  • Hehehe...You know something Gwozago, you are the best example of what a primitive creature is...Go hunting with your bow some cats...and Im not talking about lions or tigers, Im talking about domestic cats, you know how you guys love eating them, since you can hardly find anything else to eat in that country of yours. Moral? That´s something that haitians dont have, they dont even have pride since they have to ask for help to everybody around the world to survive ;)

  • From evilDominican: "Hehehe...You know something Gwozago,I'm the best example of what a primitive creature is...I'm going hunting with my bow some cats...and Im not talking about lions or tigers,Im talking about domestic cats, you know how we Dominicans love eating them, since WE can hardly find anything else to eat in that country of ours.Moral? That´s something that dominicans dont have,we dont even have pride since we have to prostitute everywhere around the world to survive ;)"

  • Haiti is one of PEPFARs 15 focus countries, which collectively represent approximately 50 percent of HIV infections worldwide. Under PEPFAR, Haiti received more than $28 million in Fiscal Year (FY) 2004, nearly $51.8 million in FY 2005, approximately $55.6 million in FY 2006, and $84.7 million in FY 2007 to support comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care programs. PEPFAR is providing more than $100.6 million in FY 2008.

  • Petit, keep cutting some sugar cane...Ill give you 80 pesos per day...that´s good enough for you to buy a few mud cookies since that´s all you eat over there in your country. And please, stop running around in undies and with a stick...This is not africa, people use clothes and stuff.

  • Suzie,I mean Petite, keep dreaming about me giving you some sugar between your fishy smellin' Dominican legs...Ill only need 80 pesos ...that´s good enough for me to buy a few pieces of Dominicans' asses since that´s all you Dominicans are good for your country. And please, stop dreaming about my Haitian stick...even poor africans people have more moral that Dominicans & use clothes and stuff.

  • Gwozago, go lick a lollipop. You are just a bastard with low selfesteem with issues with white people and anyone that isnt 100% black...Well you know what? Shove it up your ass...Im very proud of how darn well mixed I am...Jesus, the things I have to hear from a retarded guy just cause God somehow put a computer on his hands. Maybe it´s to remind the rest of the world that thanks to people like him is that the world is so messed up...Keep eating ur mud cookies you circus freak.

  • If I had low self esteem bitch,I would either be ignoring your writen insults toward my ppl like others chose to do,or agree to your prostitute's reflecting mind set on this subject. Againt bitch you di not hear anything comming out my precious mouth, you read what I wrote puta.If it was possible for me telling you something face to face,I would've chosen to fuck you up to just saying something.Pil kaka.

  • Hehehe Gwozago...if we saw each other face to face I would just ask for the camiona to come pick u up after asking you to say perejil, bitch ;)

  • FROM Suzie ugly: "Hehehe Gwozago...if we saw each other face to face I would just ask for the camiona to come pick us up to Haiti after asking you to say I'll be yours for ever Dominican, bitch ;)"

  • National HIV prevalence rate among adults (ages 15-49): 2.2 percent1

Adults and children (ages 0-49) living with HIV at the end of 2007: 120,0001

AIDS deaths (adults and children) in 2007: 75001

AIDS orphans at the end of 2007 20.000.

  • JA,JA,JA,JA, Thats funny dude...

  • I never did lick a LOLLIPOP,never will cause I was not born a Dominican.Even if you were willing to volunteer in the teaching of the tricks of your widely popular Dominicans' other males LOLLIPOP sucking trade,I would rather woop your prostitute's Dominican ass, puta.

  • Go to the doctor and ask him to give you something for all those parasites that you have in your tummy...You are looking like a pregnant woman for eating those mud cookies. Get a better job than giving BJs to the brazilian soldiers over there ;)

  • jpadrino,it it well known that Dominicans with their deises to be Whites,& be treated as anything but Whites,& their eternal complaints that Haitians INVITED AFRO AMERICANS TO BLAKEN the Island after the HAITIAN revolution, are proofs from racist Dominican minds.

  • Solution is easy. Just bring them back home or give them american citizenship.

  • Oh please...I have been replying to Gozawago STUPID and RACIST comments for over 2 months. I have never seen a person as irrational and as fill with hate towards white people as him. And people like him are the ones responsible for creating tension between neighboured countries. So Lemanod, dont create a victim out of Gozawago, he´s one guy I would never spend a lot of energy replying with facts and instead I would just tell him to shut it.

  • Bitch you're the racist imbecil.& I did not started the fire.Proofs>>>>,ask larsontic, who is British

  • This can only make sense to a DOMINICAN bitch>>>from evil:"...And people like him are the one responsible for creating tension between neighboured cointries..."

  • Suzie you can cry all you want, but you ain't gonna be readmitted among my dominicans bitches crossing the border to be PIMPED by the BOSS.Cut this lollipop bull shit. I won't even let you suck on my toes anymore!

  • Lemanod, dont be silly...This is why Haiti will always be a tribe in the middle of America. I know the story behind "tunbagobierno" and he´s just pissed off that somebody like Gozawago or whatever the name is, keeps talking crap without any foundation. So he does what Gozawago does..If gozawago say something stupid and biased about dominicans, he says the same thing about haitians. So you see? that´s what U get when people start talking crap, they get mad at each other :)

  • like i said man evil, he is just one example...

and anotherthing...Gwozago was just simply replyin to silly comments you ppl were saying about Haitian prostitutes in the streets of santo domingo.

  • G, one thing is for sure, you give the rest of the haitians a very bad rep. All your opinions in other videos have been of hate, ignorance and cowardness toward dominicans. You need to learn to say things with no prejudices.

  • yo if u gonna hate on G, y not hate on them other ignorant dominicans talkin crap about Haitians on them other videos!?!

  • go to that video : -Dominican Republic and Haitian border, Dajabon

then go look at "turnbagobierno"(your fellow "dark white" compatriot. then well c who is ignorant... he is a proof that yall dominicans so damn racist!!u talkin about ignorance... look at your compatriots first!

"turnbagobierno" is just an example.. Theres more

  • In 911 they have an estimate of the people that died because they had an estimate of the people that were in the towers, in the planes and around the sorroundings...Haiti doesnt :)

  • evil, its not because you cannot find bodies that people are not dead! for example, in the 9-11 tragedy:many bodies were not found.

  • It´s a whole different thing...on 911, thousands of people died in minutes thanks to the towers coming down..people were shredded in pieces, other died squashed between tons of rubbish, others were blown in pieces because of the plain explosions...In the masacre things were done fast, it was an execution, then trucks were driven to a spot where all the bodies ended up...even haitians that dont have a radical head agree that they were no more than 15,000....Im not saying that it was right tho.

  • Many survivors had deep machetes wounds on their bodies. Do you think that dominican soldiers who were given guns would waste their time and cut Haitians to death? Now i know they were smarter than that. There must have been other people killing them.. understand? something more like : "farmers"

  • Obviously cuttin them down with bayonets would make it easier to deny that soldiers did it. Many credible historians seem to express that it was done by soldiers...

  • evil..the haitian government and Historians had an estimate of ~12000 in 1957.. And as time went by, in the 70s, Dominican historian Bernardo Vega had estimated the death toll was around 35000.

  • Vega is a respected historian but many people disagree with him in that point because first of all, we didnt even have the amount of people that would be necessary to do everything you need to do to "dissappear" 35,000....It´s not just putting a bullet in someone´s head and cutting them in pieces in order for all of them to fit in a hole small enough to never be found.

  • evil-who said that Haitians chose boyer to be our preisdent... like i said.. i could play that dictatorship game too.

  • 2) The thing that you seem to not understand is that it is a little bit different when you are under a dictatorship than when you choose who to be your president. We were under a dictatorship, therefor dominicans CANT and WONT say that they supported what Trujillo did. There were SO many ways to take those haitians out of those border towns without having to execute them. 3)So because Haiti helped us once we should let them invade us and throw a party at them? Please, grow up :)

  • Dude, you should try to read a little more instead of just reading those cute pro haitian books that you keep reading...35,000 haitians executed by trujillo? Dude, if that was the truth, those mass graves would have been found by now...In bigger countries they have found mass graves of less than 20,000 people, noone has seen more than the ones found with less than 10,000...so please, research a little more :)...

  • G., im sorry to inform you but there´s nothing cool about eating clay cookies specially cause of it´s components...I have heard of pregnant women wanting to eat soil, but to eat it as a snack is just wrong. 2) A lie is a lie and that´s why Im against this documentary, if you blame DR for exploiting dominicans, haitians and other caribbeans in the sugar cane fields with poor conditions and salary, I would agree with you..But blame DR for slavery? That´s just WRONG.

  • 2) This same international groups that come here to complain about labour conditions, only complain about the haitians and forget about the dominicans and caribbeans working in the bateyes. Not only that, they totally forget about child slavery in Haiti or that kids over there are only eating mud cookies for the lack of food, since the donated food is hardly getting to where they should be getting.

  • evil this story about HAITIANS eating mud cookies is bull shit.Dominicans proudly holloring:HAITIANS ARE EATING MUD COOKIES.What they call mud cookie is actually CLAY or what we call ARGILE in French.Haitians have been eating CLAY for a long long time now.Especially with pregnant women expressing an urge to eat it.Now that some street Haitians in HAITI,desperate for a source of income, started focussing on commercializing it,the international media had picked on it as Haitians eating mud cookies

  • Dude, there´s nothing cool about eating "clay" cookies either.

  • There could've been something wrong if it was being used as form of diet.Or as in any regular daily meal. The fact is,it's just being prepared & made to be sold to the very few, like myself,if you should know, who enjoy the taste of it,& its health benefits to the body.Did you know that eating CLAY was good for the boby?I know that you're a defense lawyer by trade.Your clients are never wrong. You want to defend your country, raise it further against us.But even in law practices,a lie is a lie.

  • International groups are doing what France and Canada tell them to do: Make a fuss about the DR so that DR soften a little their inmigration rules (which are even softer than the ones that France has). Did you know that if you try to go to Court in France being an illegal all you get is being set back to your country? That does not happen in DR where an illegal inmigran can even demand you WITHOUT having any type of document in hand. Im a labour law lawyer and I get lots of cases like that.

  • and I have never seen them having issues with their work, education or relationship in my country or seeing them complain with anyone. Just like any other country there will be stupid people/uneducated that on a rare ocassion might act stupid but to say "Racism exist in DR" for a cat or 2 is like saying that DR has natural gas just because someone farted.Saying what you said about Duarte is by fact very biased and silly so I would say that in your case there´s no racism, just a very biased mind.

  • & you surely are making a great case for the supidest of your compatriots, chihuahuadevil

  • Lionheart, let me get you some points straight. I live in the Dominican Republic, meaning I have a chance to take a plane very often, not like you that you are lucky to have internet, so dont come with me with the "please visit Spain" crap. 2)There´s no racism in DR, I am the one that lives here and I am not white, my grandmother is black, I have black friends, I have black haitian friends and white haitian friends...

  • You mention socio-economics but fail to make the connection racism is involved.Try reading without biases(it can be difficult i know)read with an open mind. You really think that its a coincedence that black people can't get nationhood correct. The only thing that justifies that is if Black pople were somehow biologically infeior.

  • 4) About Aristide: he only had to take a step in power to screw that nation more than how it was. It seems he cared more about himself and the international relationships than about Haiti.

  • 3)Dominican Rep never went to things that people saw in the states for example: blacks didnt have to sit in the end of the bus, there was never separate bathrooms, dinner tables, etc. So that´s something that DR is very proud and the superficial knowledge that you have about my country is a little bit annoying because of that. We didnt have to kill white masters like Haiti did either, so we gave an example of how to mix everything together and make it work, Haiti couldnt and seems never will.

  • 2) It seems you forget that in DR is not a white-black thing. In DR, there´s a mestizo president, a white vicepresident, we have had a black "Alcalde" and in the social ladder you see white, black and mestizos all over... You cant come with "black are mostly poor hence racism" like if the dominicans have the fault of a system that was all over the world that kept the blacks back from reaching up in the ladder...

  • Well, this stop being intellectual when you came with that "fact" about Duarte that only in your mind exist. It´s very silly to say that Duarte asked for help to the Spanish when he was sending money from Venezuela to kick the spanish out in the time of the "restauration". 2)You seem to have a problem with white people for what you said about the "white" and "black" dominicans, like if we have the same problems those two have in Haiti....

  • So your answer 2 whether racism exist in DR is NO.Again my sources are available upon request.Ur one of those that think that Spain claimed land in the New World just 2 expand their empire for the sake of doing so Not for economic purposes fueled by African slavery. Please visit Spain so you can wake up.speak to someone from Spain as I do so you can see what Im talking about. They find it hilarious that "hispanics" refer to themselves today as Spanish as if they were made citizens and not slaves.

  • 2)So I guess that for what you say,90% of earth´s countries are racists because blacks are usually the poor ones? Dont you think it´s getting a little old that excuse? I mean, it´s not the beginning of the 1900´s, therefor it´s not because of racism anymore but more because of the socio-economic conditions that black people have to deal with around the world. Lionheart, yoru conspiracy theories and black panter crap is kinda cheesy.

  • Those conditions stem from systems set centuries ago therfore it still directly goes back to racism. How do you say one thing and fail to make the connection. This now gets perpetuated therfore it no longer has to be blatant in your face racism. Also once someone realizes whats going on they are quickly stopped by the powers that be to keep the status quo.Marcus Garvey,MLK,Malcolm X,Patrice Lumumba,Kwame Nkhrumah,Aristide and the list goes on.

  • Well Lionheart, what you say about Duarte is very stupid because, howcome Duarte was still giving resources to the guys of the restauration to fight the spanish? You see? You should start reading a little bit more instead of just hating white people for all your problems. Let me tell you something that you seem to not know about DR: Our president is a mulato and has a very funky afro ;). We have had black people and mulatos in very important positions in our country...

  • Who hates white people? And why do you assume that I have problems? You seem somewhat intelligent so why do you make these assumptions you really should know better.I thought I was carrying on an intellectual discussion on something that we clearly disaggree on but that makes me a white blaming, hating person with problems? WHAT?

  • Evil why do you assume that I am Haitian?

  • So you cant come here and talk about racism in the Dominican Republic while there are still places in haiti that you will be in trouble if your ancestors are from a different african tribe. I hope one day you guys at least are able to be civilized enough to understand that a split country like the one you have is not gonna take you anywhere.

  • Evil, the knowledge of the tribes in which Africans who were taken to Hispaniola are from is unknown.Trade records show regions but truelly knowing what tribe you are from is something that Africans in the western hemisphere don't know so your above comment is so wrong. The only split in Haiti is the one between the elite and the poor who again happened to be white and black respectively but oh yeah you think things like that are coincedences not racsim.

  • You really seem to suffer from somekind of inferiority problem, Lionheart, thinking that everybody is hunting you down because you are black. Im glad in DR we dont have people like you around, where black, white and mix can live and work together...My family and 95% of the dominican families are mixture of black, white and/or mestizos...Such a wonderful blend is never gonna happen in Haiti, a place where black and white haitians can hardly see each other, you guys are still in the XIX century.

  • "Where black, white, mix can live and work together"- lol So it's just a coincedence that in your happily mixed nation that the white people are in power while the Darker DR's tend to be the poor people. If you call that living together then I guess racism is a myth, something that no longer exists.

  • That´s part of why Haiti will never be a real country, you guys are always fighting each other or blaming the white guys for your freaking problems. What´s funny is that not even other black countries wanna deal with you guys, look at Bahamas, they keep sending back all the haitians that try to get there illegaly..what do you call them? racist too? ;)

  • You tend to contradict yourself Evil.First you say France(white people) is responsible for Haiti's issues, then you say Haitians blame their issues on whites. The Bahamas and 95% of black countries are puppets to the U.S. that are given the illusion of independence with political freedom but ecoomically are enshackled.Again the WHITE elite allows this while the darker masses are expoited. This is even true in youe beloved DR onl a fool wouldn't agree if they do the research. We dont own anything.

  • What puzzles me is that despite of the racism in DR.You have many DR's proud of the many MLB stars in the U.S. Umm did you ever take a look at their hue?Soriano,Ortiz had they never been stars do you know the hell they would have caught in DR. Oh now when their stars it's okaly to be a darker Dominican, no rumors of being Haitian here as what happens to most Dark skined Dominicans Pena Gomez a perfect example.Only when DR's visit white nations are they reminded that "you are a nigger to"

  • Lionheart, what you say about Duarte is a total lie, you need to check on your information because Duarte was against any kind of foreign intervention, that´s why he ended up deported because there were some sectors in DR that still wanted protection from a country in case we were invaded again. That´s why Sanchez and Mella fought the spanish in la "Restauracion", so I think that´s part of the kind of prejudice and missinformation that Haiti has always had against DR. ;)

  • Why do you asume my sources are from Haiti? I can provide my sources upon request,Duarte received a European education therefore shared their racist views.Besides the glits and glamor, I find that many DR's don't truelly know about Duarte.Similar to U.S. citizens that only know bits and peices about their "founding fathers" things that put these men in a glorious light but never mention the negative.Again my sources are available if your interested.

  • 4) For good luck our funding fathers knew what they were doing and what they wanted, otherwhise this wouldnt be too far from a Kosovo or just another big mess like Haiti is right now. Therefor, reuniting both sides of the island would have been the biggest mistake ever.

  • 3) There was always mixtured in this side of the island while in yours were hardly any and thanks to that on the east side of the island there was not a traumatic path that followed as the blacks, whites and mulatos created this republic. (The 3 nation´s fathers of the DR are white, black and mestizo). In Haiti you never saw that happening and you guys still have issues against the white haitians (my mother´s aunt is a white haitian), so I pretty much know it for a fact ;)

  • 2) It´s a very shallow explanation that you are giving about that "reunification", saying it didnt happen because of "racism". What you dont seem to remember is that most people on this side of the island didnt feel connected to Haiti at all because our culture was more spanish oriented. Language and religion are things to take in consideration and those were things that the spanish side of the island didnt share with yours.Thank God we didnt join you because we would be in the mess you guys are

  • Lionheart, the problem with your view is that when this happened, there was no Dominican Republic! We were a spanish colony that wanted to be FREE, we DID not want to be part of Spain, France or Haiti. You get the history of DR wrong because there were dominicans that wanted the spanish side of the island to join Haiti because of the poor support that Spain was giving the colony.

  • There was no "Haiti" either it was called Saint Domingue then. I say D.R. because that what it's called today.People dont refer to Ethiopia as Abbysinia today.Your "correction" here is irrelevent.I say D.R. so others reading can know what im reffering to.

Did you know that IMMEDIATELY after successfully breaking away from Haiti your beloved Duarte drafted a letter to Spain sayin "please take us back."So its okay for the white man to own you but join your darker bros hell naw.(All Racism)

  • evil u say :"We were a spanish colony that wanted to be FREE"- If you really wanted freedom, why did you go back with spain?.. And yeah yeah i know about that restoration war crap.. but then there was baez who wanted americans to take over ur country!

N by the way... Haiti helped you guys for the restoration war, and you know it! However.. thats how u treat them when they come to your country.

  • Evilchihuahua are you one of those who deny the hatred of Haitians that continues in contemporary D.R.? Because that is the only valid explanation I see for someone who appears to know their stuff but reads it with a closed mind, and only thinks critically when it benifits his views. The truth hurts sometimes and it seems that as a Nationalist you hate to see D.R. in a bad light, but if there is a moral bone in your body you must admit things are wrong here.

  • 3) You know what kind of slavery people should worry about? The one that haitians practice against other haitians, also the ones they pratice against small children in Haiti..that´s the kind of slavery that worries me...which is totally different to what you see in DR, where the problem is explotation against dominicans, haitians and other caribbeans that work in the bateyes...Therefor it´s a lie to say it is focus against haitians or that they are killed if they try to scape or chained, etc.

  • Lionheart, dont put it that way, Haiti´s intention was never to "freed our brothers", it was "let´s get rid of the spanish because they represent a threat to our independance...So it´s time to put things straight ;) ...2) "Enslaving your cousins"? How are we enslaving them? Just cause they work under the same bad conditions that the dominicans have to deal with in the bateyes dont make them slaves, what do they want? Air conditioners in every shack?

  • Evilchihuahua Spain at that time wanted nothing to do with a military that defeated the great Napoleon's. You seem to be familiar with Boyer, read his speeches and you will agree that Haiti was a symbol of hope for those enslaved and all enslaved were welcomed if they wanted freedom. Before Colombus the island was ONE but what was a REUNIFICATION was viewed as an invasion because of the racist was of the D.R's not realizing that they are racist againts their own.

  • Just like you cant trust the guys that did this documentary since most of them are only speakers of organizations that are trying to solve Haiti´s problems by leaving all the mess to DR. While countries that are responsible for Haiti´s problems like France are just washing their hands and looking the other way.

  • No one is asking DR to "solve Haiti's problems" but practically enslaving your cousins is a little immoral you think?

  • 6) Even if DR´s only reason to help Haiti is because a stronger Haiti means a stronger DR, as you said lemande...Dont you think it still is a valid reason to help a country?. 7) You seem to be a vivid example of haitians that still hate dominicans for a bunch of stupid reasons, sometimes just because of a very bad education, hope I am wrong but most of the things you have said are VERY shallow and not based in facts :)

  • 3) If you wanna talk about the past, then let´s start talking about the past: Haiti exterminated the whites and the ones that were mixed back in the days of Haiti´s independance ;). 4) The dad of Baby Doc´s campaing motto was "c´ést fini le mulatte" (the end of the mulatos) althought after getting all the votes from the people that hated mulatos, he married a mulato woman ;) ...5) It´s a common practice in Haiti to have kids as slaves but that´s something you guys love to ignore ;)

  • Correction, Haiti "exterminated" slave masters that happened to be white. And the "mixed" ones you mentioned were freedmen who were the result of an African woman being raped, who felt that they had more in common with their white rapist French fathers than their victimized African mothers. Not all frredmen felt this way but the ones who did were dealt with. It was the only way slavey was going to be abolished. The intention at fist was no slvery not independence. But the latter was inevitable.

  • Lemand: 1) So you are gonna talk about a crime commited by the Dominican Republic in the 1930´s? We were under a dictatorship that did what they wanted with everyone. 30 years ago!! It´s like saying that still today germans hate jews thanks to the Nazi regime. 2) It wasnt 40,000 haitians, even haitian historians claim no more than 10,000 haitians, so it would be nice if you could do more reading ;)

  • blame the US they put Trujillo in power

  • Please list some of your sources, because it seems to be a matter of perspective rather than a lack of reading. i.e. Haiti:"Lets cross the mountains and free our brothers enslved by Spain"---D.R.: "Those niggers from across the mountains are invading".

  • evil..imma do like you : 1) the no more then 10,000.. i disagree.. it was 17000-35000. why dont you go do some more reading ! 2)i could play that " we were under a dictatorship" I could say that it was Boyer, not the Haitians.. Did we say that Boyer signed that 150million franc loan and not Haiti?

We are responsible for our dictators actions because they are our representatives.

    atleast do the same

  • fellow easterners. i dont hate you!

i understand we have a dark past but it is time to build a better Quiskeya. did you know that Without the help of Haitians themselves, The Dominican Republic would have never came to exist.did u know that the members of the secret society Trinitaria allied to Haitian liberals to form a common front against (Haitian) Boyer's regime.Boyer was the man who invated the east,At the same time he was dumb enough to sign a treaty with france that put haiti in debt4 yrs

  • Hey guys!! Haiti wasn't always so poor you know, there was a time when dominican prostitutes use to go to Haiti all the time to make money. They are so famous for that.

The point is... those prostitutes were well treated! please treat haitians well. thats all we ask. its temporary, Haiti will rise again! and we will all go back to Haiti.

  • evilchihuahua20

Are you not the one that said that the dr is the country that cares so much about Haiti's improvement? Why not help out Haitians and feed them instead of making fun of them?

-by the way, if you know how slavery works, you would realize that masters always feed their slaves!

  • - I'm am sorry, but i don't see how a country with such animosity for Haitians is going to "help" Haiti.I mean, the dr government did commit a genocide on Haitians living in the dr.

  • 7) Is funny how this documentary says that they chop people´s feet and legs off and that they have children working in the sugar field, which it is all a lie. Even when some dominican reporters saw the documentary went to the fields to interview some of the people i the film and all of them answered that they thought they were making a movie, that the kids were told to play in the fields like if they were grownups...That´s why the documentary didnt make it to the Oscars, it isnt real.

  • Dominican reporters are for sale, you can't always trust what they say ... reporters for sale and the Vicini and Fanjul families have a ton of money for them

  • 6) There are many haitians studying, working and making a good living here under legal status, those are welcome here just like any other inmigrant but what the DR cant deal is to have a million illegal inmigrants with no working experience and with hardly any money to survive, that is a big burden that a third world country CANT take...not even the US loves to have that kind of people around ;)

  • 5)And even under those conditions they are WAY better than in Haiti, where they have to eat mud cookies when they dont have money to buy food. That would never happen in DR...6) The DR has the right to keep out of their country anyone that has an illegal condition, just like the US, France, Spain and any other country can...We will not become another Kosovo thanks to wrong international decisions and pressure :)

  • 4)What some countries that are trying to "help" Haiti dont know is that the fever isnt in the sheets, they are just hitting around the bushes instead of facing the real problem. 5) For god´s sake, even in the US some Haitians had an haitian woman as a slave in 2008!! If you wanna look for slavery go to Haiti, not to the DR...The DR is just a third world country that cant afford better conditions to sugar cane cutters no matter if they are haitians or not.

  • 3) There´s the rest of the caribbean islands that keep sending the haitians back to their country...it´s ironic that even in the Bahamas (most population is black) doesnt want to deal with haitians AT ALL...but no, the beef has to be with DR, DR is the racist country, DR is the one that have them as slaves, right?

  • 2) No other country is more interested that Haiti´s condition improves more than DR but the problem is that NO OTHER country is making a lot to help. We have France that hardly cares for Haiti after being the biggest responsible of the collapsed of that country´s economy. We have the US that doesnt give the haitians that get to the US in boats the same treatment than those Cubans get when they set foot in Florida beaches...

  • "No other country is more interested that Haiti´s condition improves more than DR"

    - that is such bull. If the dr wants Haiti to improve, its because it knows that it will improve its economy. If dominicans really wanted Haiti to improve, then why do they refuse to buy Haitian products in dajabon?

when Haiti placed a ban on dominican poultry,(because they had avian flu). The dr was outraged!A strong Haiti means a stronger dr that is why they might want haiti to improve.

  • This documentary was made only to mess with DR reputation. Why doesnt the documentary say anything about the dominicans that work in those bateyes too? Both haitians and dominicans WORK under the same conditions in those bateyes and you never see during the whole documentary anyone saying anything about it. Why? Because all they want to do is blame everything on the Dominican Rep.

  • "Why doesnt the documentary say anything about the dominicans that work in those bateyes too?"

you mean mostly BLACK dominicans right?

isnt it amaizing how they are the ones who end up working in there?

Face it! Racism exists in the dr, and it is so obvious!

  • No one said that DR is to blame for what is going in Haiti. The Haitian government should do their jobs but when rights are violated, the people at fault should be held accountable. I wish people would look at both sides and not be biased. This is a serious matter. And Child slavery in Haiti is a serious matter too and again, the government needs to step it up. I just wish DR and Haiti could stop their constant fighting. It doesn't help at all.

  • I'm sure DR has helped Haitians in some ways but it doesn't excuse the way they are being treated in the sugar camps AT ALL! So just because DR has helped them, it should not matter that a small % of Haitians that have immigrated there are being taken advantage of? That they are stripped of their rights?I find that to be insulting.Obviously the Haitians that do continue to cross the borders think their lives will improve if they live in DR and do not know that they will be abused or mistreated.

  • I haven't seen the movie and I do agree that the Haitian government needs to step it up as far as improving the rights of Haitians and helping them ec

  • Que viva la republica dominicana

  • its amazing how the dominican republic fought haiti for its independence and now the haitians beg us for work. lets not talk about all the crimes haitians commit in the dominican republic. now they wanna say that we mistreat them?? this is all crap they are just mad that us domincians are prospering while they live in a hell hole!

  • Haitians may have committed crimes in the dr, but Haitians never committed a Dominican Genocide. Trujillo is the one who ordered to kill all the Haitans in the dominican republic, and in the 1930s, around 40,000 Haitians were murdered by dominincan soldiers.

Some of you guys are so racist and hate Haitians so much!

Also, the reason why Haiti occupied the dr is because they didn't want to share the island with spain or any european country that may attack them or put them back to slavery!

  • As far as this film documentary if anyone could call it that? i believe it was listed as one to be nominated for an Oscar. Well thank god it did not win an award, perhaps they figured that it was a cheap attempt to misguide people into an intense and extreme and evil campaign to discredit a whole country based on cheap propaganda!!!!!

  • tianglade How about child slavery in Haiti. Are you going to blame the Dominican Republic for that problem too?

  • What ever happened in Haiti's teritories,is Mr.Preval's problems.However,what happened in Domican's teritories,are DR's Problems,,,

The same thing goes for the USA and/with Mexico/central America...

20 Millions illegals are living here getting free education/housing/foods & decent lifestyle,,,I sincerely believe that Domincan Republic should follow the International Humanities guides line against foreiners/workers also...

  • I live in California & I can tell you the Illegal Hispanic/Latino are treated equal in the work place to a certain extain,,sometimes even better than a Legal resident.Illegals r getting Free:education, foods,Housing, medicalcare etc..

    Where as me,as a Haitian-American(US citizen) I don't get anything/nothing from my government,,,Except the Education & opportunities,,,after that I have to pay for my Health Insurance/foods/Loans(House/Cars)...

  • This is a movie review, so go watch the movie.

I bet you have not seen the movie, just being divisive for the sake of being against something--feel better now?

  • I wouldn't waste my time watching a film filled with a negative slant full of theatrical propaganda thats tarnishing the image of a country that has helped more the haitians than the haitian goverment itself. Im still waiting on a documentary that exposes child slavery in Haiti, got your fill!

  • The Fact that the Haitian's governement don't care about the Sugar Plantation Slavery/Cheap Labor that going on in DR,,,Does that justify how Domincan's governement manage the affairs.

    The Truth hurts my friend...

  • What truth? First sugar is a cheap commodity thats why the wages are low. Second the Dominican Republic is not the only producer of sugarcane many countries in the world produce sugar so it's a very competitive market. Third international markets sets prices for sugar not the individual countries controls the fluctuation of its wholesale worth. Fourth cutting cane is dangerous work people are injured easily.

  • Fifth if you feel exploited because of the wage that you receive then go back home. And finally haitians should protest in their home country for having a very incompetent goverment, that thinks that solving their domestic problems means getting rid of its citizens through emigration to its neighbor in the east. That has it's own economic problems, 1 million illegal haitians is estimated that live in the Dominican Republic. We cant handle such large number!

  • Haitian citizens and their problems are not the problem of another country namely the Dominican Republic!!!!! the haitian goverment needs to take care of it's own people, in your own homeland.

  • Be Honest,,Since you know what the Haitian's Government should do.

Could you tell me what the USA government should do with the 20 millions illegals Hispanic/Latinos in the US?

  • Well as far as Hispanic illegals in the U.S. the Dominican community is a tiny segment of that population of illegals. Mexicans alone account for the vast majority of illegals in the U.S. They should also deport them, litsen this country has a right to deport those that break the law. And it dont matter the nationality of the person!!!!! that's it.

  • I understand the part breaking the law & Deport them,,,,However, does that give Domincan Republic the right not to follow the International Humanities guides line against illegal foreiners/workers...no fair/decent access to school/hospital/housing/foods etc..

could you please elaborate on that...? Unannounced72

  • Well do some research and find out for yourself that many haitian woman cross the border enter the Dominican Republic's territory. And use public hospitals to give birth, who do you think pays for that service? the dominican goverment pays for that service. Also more than 20,000 undocumented haitians receiving free education in various colleges through out the country who do you think is paying for that? again the Dominican goverment!!!!!

  • As far as the sugarcane workers they are contracted to live in the bateys. The official word is contracted, if they choose to leave the job they are returned to Haiti.

  • And the question that i want to ask you is this. What is Haiti doing to correct it's political, economic and environmental problems also its big problem with child slavery.

  • It's very hypocritical to ask for things that are awarded to people that constantly parade themselves as victims. And denounce the same people that are trying to help them! the Dominican Republic again is not at fault of what is going on in Haiti. And should not become recipient of a mass migration of people that are not desired by the majority of Dominican citizens PERIOD.

  • exactly if dominicans dont want haitians in thier country why do they keep moving there??? if dominicans abuse haitians why do they keep moving there?? haitians if ur being mistreated goooooo home! period!

  • you bring up so many good points but you seem to forget tht exploitation can have no justification. Deportation is the right of the host nation but if you look at who is being deported, and how, you will see just how inhumane it all is. Dominican-born haitians who have never even been to haiti are separated from their families and deported without any regaurds to the danger they might face. Justify that!!

  • There´s a small mistake you make: if the parents are in the country illegaly, the kid follows the same luck than the parents, meaning that all of them are illegal inmigrants, therefor, the DR has the right to deport them all, as a family. The problem would be if they only deport the parents and leave the kids over here or viceversa. The DR Constitution and inmigration laws give us the right to do this. Just like the french constitution and it´s laws allows France.

  • If Dominicans are so proud of their nation and their nations ways then every "American Born" dominican should denounce their "American" citizenship and proudly only identify with being Dominican. It's wrong and you know it. Had that been the law here, hundreds of my Dominican Bros would have never had te chance to accomplish what the have in the past 25 years. Some 3rd generations Dominican-Haitians still can't get recognized...it's foolish racist against thier own and you know it.

  • exactly. People try to explain it all with technicalities but they so easily leave out the moral issues at hand. At the base of it all this isn't a technical issue, it's a moral issue. Humans should not have to live under these conditions and politicians from both sides should do their best to insure proper treatment. No one is. Now international groups are stepping in a shedding some light on it and they get all defensive. It's shameful and i'm not proud of whats going on.

  • Yeah right? a film with plenty of innacurate information. Cutting sugarcane all day? this lady and her cohorts are idiots she dont know what the hell she's talking about. Apparently she dont know the Dominican Republic at all!!!!! The haitian goverment doesn't care about their own people. If they are slaves? their free to go back to their side of paradise anytime we wont miss them at all.
