  • Awesome :) Is there any video of the knifefight between doctor Benway and another doctor, when he cuts his hamstring? :)

  • Ever tell ya 'bout the time I performed an apendetomy witha rusty sardine can?....

For me, that sums up Burroughs, a genius as well as a junkie.

  • Squallido fuori luogo e di cattivo gusto. con quello che sucede nel mondo sarebbe da fare piazza pulita di questa spazzatura.

  • i watched benway operate just the once, amazing, such technique.the patient ?well

"you win a few and you loose a few" ,thats what the old doc said at the enquiry. an inspiration to medical students everywhere.

  • As Doctors, so are there financial advisors under the most advertised names.

  • why did he agree to acting this out? now this is all i can see when reading it. even when listening to him read it. i didn't need a god damn visual. the one in my head was much better...

  • All the SKILL is going out of surgery, all the know-how & make-do. Did I ever tell you about the time I performed an appendectomy with a rusty sardine can?

  • The Firesign Theatre had benways and more benways

  • all in a days work

  • They made a bad mistake by not inviting Burroughs to Muppet Show.

  • To truly appreciate this piece it helps know something of the history and writing of Burroughs and particularly the story of Dr Benway. Without this foreknowledge take this as an allegory on my view of the people that develop new psychiatric medications.

  • "I think he's gone doctor" - great delivery!

  • ha ha quite good

  • ahh god love ya bill, just looking at burroughs makes me wish i was nodding

  • this is one of the funniest parts of Naked Lunch, actually had me in hysterics when I first read it. William Lee you are a legend.

  • Burroughs has the greatest funniest voice I've ever heard. He sounds just like a crazy old man. Like a real mad angry old man that goes round swining his cane in your face. Hahahahahaha

  • I think I originally saw this in the 80's. PBS? Not sure, but there was a series of US authors and Kurt Vonnegut was another. Any info', anyhoo?

  • He's WC Fields ! (Pun intended.)

  • excellent!

    excellent!

  • Pretty sure it's meant to be *Dr. Fenway?

  • @karlkarlkarl1234 nope, "Benway", dude. He's a character in several novels by WSB.

  • @glamourennui About what ? Healthcare?Oh no, I'm always serious about government run scam operations.

  • This is exactly what goes on in Congress.

    LOL

  • Insect ecstasy. Thanks Bill.

  • @mafrick40205 I'll take whatever opportunity I can get to prop up my "desperate and lame critique, and flaccid argument "(is that what that was? And all this time I thought I was just generalizing) of healthcare reform, especially if it irks individuals like you to no end.

  • @globbo100 Okay. Up yours.

  • @globbo100 at least socialized medicine is free... ain't nobody never told yeh not ta look a gift horse in the mouth boy?

  • Was in the audience. Never knew how funny W.B. was before. He cracked me up! Love his random terrorism concept.

  • Cut my cocaine with sani-flush.

  • @samdon815 There is a character in Naked Lunch (speaking in the first person) who admits that he cut (his) Cocaine with sani-flush. I laughed out loud and clapped when I read it!

  • youre gettin philisphoical about this??..fair enough ah pook..theres a meaning behind it..this is a bit of a laugh..humour. why become philisphoical about it??.well all this governmental stuff anyways??

  • wat movie is this from

  • People enjoyed this?

  • No wonder Micheal Jackoff died...

  • holy shit, Burroughs acting.

  • He was always acting.

  • Michael Jackson's doctor ?

  • havent you seen the Film Drugstore Cowboy, as Burroughs is in that

  • sure i have. burroughs wasn't big on being a media whore. i'm actually surprised he even did that movie in all honesty.

  • how bigs a media whore , what does a person have to do to cross over that line between a known face to media whore, As he appears on a number of chat shows reading his stuff, Travels over to England on a number of times, Has books written about him, so when does the line get crossed

  • burroughs fully understood what the american media is used for. "a nation of finks"-w..s. burroughs. that quote wasn't a mistype. he only did entertainment in his celebrity career.

  • do you ever stop and ask yourself why U.S. journalists are constantly being jailed in foreign countries? Probably a lot of that stuff that was written about Burroughs was done so against his own will i.e. when he shot Joan and such. Again, he understood the function of the media in the U.S. and so do I for that matter although I am not involved in any criminal activity he very much was.

  • I have no idea about U.S journalists as i am in England. But i think the cult of a Media whore is a new type of thing. self publicising celebs throwing their face infront over every camera of tabloid news story. But thats only as big as the subscriptions to each story and magazine. Its a total different time scale from when Burroughs was around to where we are now.

  • the U.S. media doesn't function any different now than it did then. Now we are replacing it with mass surveillance literally being watched by cameras everywhere we go. it's the logical extension of what the media was used for in his time and now the watchful eye of big brother is a reality. In his day it was newspapers. Now it is a ubiquitous reality in America (and England for that matter).

  • I dont get where your coming from. why are you bringing up jailed journalist and surveillance ,when the conversation was about celebrities and media whores,of when burroughs was alive Not now But then

  • it's all the same man. it's all connected. think about it.

  • to me it just sounds like conspiracy theory hog wash. Oh man they are watching us man oh man they know my blood group man Oh man, they control our minds man with their minds. Ok if you want to be like that then so be it But within time you will grow out of it

  • That's not even paranoia. It's a casual observation of an ever-present surveillance culture. England is like that too. It's hard to believe you don't recognize it in your own country, where they have cameras in street lights for chrissakes.

  • England is the most surveyed country in the world.

But if that surveillance , cameras, DNA, can stop atrocities of the London bombings, Rape , Murder and a ever increasing thug violent element. Then why should i be afraid for that

  • I agree that those things suck, but no wonder you idiots are turning your own country into an Orwellian nightmare. You are welcoming it. At least France and Germany get it. England: a country ran for, and controlled by sheeple.

  • so if you personally are so so terrified about surveillance where you are, Then why are you using a computer, And i guess a mobile phone , And i might be right in thinking a credit card, A library card. Do you have a bank account, How do you get about, Do you take a bus or drive yourself,.This Orwellian nightmare you so speak of this big brother state, well you've brought the product you've brought the surveillance equipment yourself And now your complaining that people are watching you

  • I personally am not afraid of anything. I am just merely stating the facts. I can't be silenced for that, can I? America is doing it too. I can just complain about it and watch it happen. Which in all reality is the worst thing you can do. When you live in a nation of idiots, the worst things your imagination can contrive will most likely be your reality in another decade. Who knows where this philosophy will lead in the future.

  • Where ever it does lead who knows at the moment , It will lead as far as the next Military invention. As everything we use to communicate apart from the standard home to home telephone has been military invented, Im looking forward to where it might go next , maybe eye transplants that will have camera in the eye. Maybe robot arms for people who have severed limbs that can be controlled by the mind

  • Those things are already being invented. I just don't like the idea of a pervasive surveillance culture. But again, when you live in a nation of retards, these things become the reality. There are plenty of nations in the world who don't treat their citizens like this. It's fine to develop cutting edge technology and such, but it doesn't have to mean that you look at your citizens as so many cattle that need to be documented.

  • nothing you can do about it my friend ,

The more you stamp your feet and go to task on the people who device these surveillance tactics will only be a bigger reason on why they are using them. Im guessing your in America A nation which isnt greatly liked for the last few years due to the bush administration. well i also guess thats one reason why alot of the surveillance tactics are in place because of a nation of being under threat. if you calm the nation you lose the fear

  • America isn't really "under a threat" so much as it is falling apart from within for a variety of reasons. The last vestiges of an empire are to lash out at its own citizens any way it can. This is nothing new at all in this country.

  • Your nation , Well not so much your nation But the backers of your nation are way to powerful and financially aware that your country is going tits up. and they can bleed your nation. Click their fingers and your nation will jump . The Biggest fear if i was American wouldn't be surveillance but would be investers such as Goldman Sachs International, As Sachs is who is running America check out a guy on Youtube called Max Keiser, hes a very interesting man

  • What you are talking about is actually kind of a good change in some respects. To weed out the weak is not a bad thing. All those corrupt businesses are becoming obsolete. The real way in which the country is falling apart has to do with other things.

  • Comment removed

  • so let me get this right you are up in arms about a controlling system who operates mass surveillance and underarm tactics

But your happy for bigger corrupt business to get the upper hand over the smaller

You do speak in riddles dont you . On that note i wont bother with you anymore until you either wise up or hit puberty

  • What the hell? You mentioned Goldman Sachs which is a company that is going belly up for being corrupt. I am all for small business myself. Sorry, friend. I'll be up in arms about all of it as long as human bullshit rules the day, so I guess I have the rest of my life to fight it. I'll also call out assholes who are welcoming it like you.

  • FUCK YOU, Youtube. You don't censor ol' Bull Lee. Keep the web free!

  • @lawtonium The censorship is in the video itself, it is not Youtube censoring it. Youtube only seems to censor graphic "profanity", not verbal, which is fair enough for me. That can be gotten on plenty of other websites. Love this clip, though, wish the video distributor didn't censor it.

  • The line is "Some fucking drug addict cut my cocaine with Saniflush" NOT "Some (beep) drug addict has cut my cocaine with Saniflush."

This case has already been contested in favor of Mr. Burroughs!

  • Sometimes I think he was the last MAN on Earth. The ultimate genius. Miss you mr. Lee.

  • Great stuff a timeless joy.Still Very miss him this wonderfull uncle Bill Burroughs. I put it on my list . THX for the upload

  • i`ve seen this video a few years ago, here, and thanks you i`ve could apreciate a live reading and that unveliable representation of a representative extract of naked lunch. i love it. (excuse my english, i´m a very poor marihuana user from los polvorines, a small town of buenos aires, argentina.

    it´s preatty funny down here

  • That's the underground NYC writer Stewart Meyer. He wrote the cult classic Lotus Crew!

  • Gotta love old uncle Bill...This is a classic.

  • Sterilize your operation tools in a toilet!

  • It's Victor Bokris I think

  • all in a days work!priceless

  • is that Ginsberg making a cameo as well?

  • I love Burroughs and Jackie Curtis, this is brilliant

  • so funny..and brilliant and compelling

  • i remember that from the book.

    is that burroughs playing benway?

  • Yes

  • Thank you, I've been waiting my whole life to see that.
