Hi again and thanks for the tips on tube swapping.
Another question: I just bought a similar beyer M55 mic you're using here. The signal seemed very weak so I must use different wiring, but the cable has 3 cores (blue, yellow and white), and I'm not sure how I should wire it.
I wired blue to the tip, yellow and ground to the sleeve. Sounds great, but I'm afraid it's incorrect and may cause damage to the mic or the amp.
Hi! Thank you for your great videos. I have a question about the tube swap:
I have an early 60's amp, Dynacord da 16. It has three 12AX7's. Should I get the same effect (reduction of feedback) if I swapped one of them to a 12AU7? What if I changed all of them?
@Harpsucker Hi again and thanks for the tip on tube swap!
I just bought a Beyer m55 but it sounds weak. How should I wire it, the blue or the yellow cord to the tip of the plug (there are actually 3 cords)? Could incorrect wiring damage the mic or the amp?
I think I have seen almost all your video's. You're awesome. I have alway's been able to play harmonica but watching your video's have advanced my playing tramendously... my only question is about speakers.. I play with an ampeg vt22. Its a 100 watt tube 2x12 combo amp and I was wondering what speakers to go with. Or what speakers would you recommend?
@notfoundyet1 well the Pro got a 10" speaker no reverb, the Blues Jr got a 12"speaker plus master plus reverb, depending on what you doing,i would go for the Blues Jr.
Was hälst du von dem Beyer M55 ? Ich habe hier auch eines rumliegen, aber ohne Stecker und werde jetzt mal einen anlöten. Was kann ich davon erwarten? Man findet nicht viel darüber heraus...
I saw one of your other videos and was inspired to put some time in. I recently got a harp to learn on, but after seeing this, I should probably stick to being a guitarist ! Saw Charlie Musslewhite awhile back and thought I could maybe figure the harp out but fuck it . I don't think I'll live long enough to play like you guys do.
Sam, thats what they did in the old days, they just put anything in a tubeamp , mic, guitar, accordion anything, you can use your amp as a PA system no problem, but the sound will be distorded, for a small party its ok, but for a gig you need some PA system
so what's the easiest way to get that distorted sound? do i just turn up the amp volume or what? can i buy just a preamp or something to plug into another amp and still get that sound, or does it need a special pedal or something? any info greatly appriciated :D
Hi, great vid! Let me ask you a question about what you think playin an harmo through a green bullet plugged in a fender blues junior? I'm looking for an amp I could use either with my strat or my harmo... Thanks!
Hi, i once did a workshop for harmonica playing thru a Blues Jr. great sound plus built in reverb, i changed the preamp tube to lower the gain for harmonica (12AU),thats it
wow - you have just provided me inspiration to work on my harp tone - just been amplifying my harp with my vocal mike through the PA - will now be trying it through the guitar amp - thanks for the tone!!!! Enjoyed it!!!!
Hi have chance to get a Pr Junior Amplifier Cheap. I have a JT with Black Element will i need to change the Tubes on the Amp. Thanks & Happy Christmas
Hi Harpsucker, i have one mic exactly the same as yours, but the high impedance transformer was in the botton of the mic, and i can't link it to the shell.
I'll keep trying now, great tone, great player...
Great series! Love them all. Based on this I won a Beyer M55 on eBay for only $38 ($12 to ship to US from Germany :-). It sounds as good as the JT30 maybe with more bottom and breakup? Hard to tell on small speakers. You are the first harp player I've seen with this mic. Do you have any info about it? Mine comes wired for XLR but I understand it is dual impedance. How is yours wired? Do you recommend using low or high impedance? Any M55 help would be appreciated.
i just wired mine high Z with a guitar plug, no tricks nothing, i dont have any further info about this mic, but if you google you may find something, if its in german i can help to translat for you
that sounds cool, my pro junior sounds like shit...i'm gonna try changing the stock speaker/tubes out sooner or later, hopefully thatll tame the harshness
i think you dont have to change the speaker, change the tube, thats it, the tubeampdoctor company here in germany offers a whole mod for harmonica, i heard one modded Pro Jr. the sound was awesome

@puskajjuuri if you change all the sound will be muddy not really ok, you have to change the first stage preamp tube to a 12AY or 12AU , thats all

Nice playing...I've played for 35 years and man, how many harps I ruined by soaking them in my Beer mugs! LOL....
I did that for at least 10 of those 35 years.
Of course they use to cost about 6.50$ for a Hornner any key! :)

can you make a youtube video where you speak into the mic?
cause ive got a blues junior ad was wondering if i could use it as a pa/guitar/what ever instument
so my main question is can you use a tube amp as a normal speaking pa?could you possibly make a video about it?
samhinrichsen 2 years ago
Sam, thats what they did in the old days, they just put anything in a tubeamp , mic, guitar, accordion anything, you can use your amp as a PA system no problem, but the sound will be distorded, for a small party its ok, but for a gig you need some PA system

thank you
carrying around giant pa sytems is not fun at all i just wanted to make sure that it wouldnt blow any tubes
thank you again your incredble at the harmonica
samhinrichsen 2 years ago
you cant blow a tube, before you blow a tube the speaker will be long gone, thats the weakest part of an amp, especially Fenders have that problem
