The house of Lords is a fuckin joke now!!! These life peerages are a fuckin disgrace!!! Hereditary peerages were of a matter, where people who had culture and class would be able to recieve a place among the nobility, now 200,000 pounds can get u a fuckin seat with the nobility. Such a shame!! For shame!!! I thing the life peerages and life peerages reform act is a spit in the face of our great nation and that great house!

It's a disgrace that they allow commoners in the Lords for themselves only. If a Speaker steps down he should get the traditional hereditary peerage rather than a pathetic life peerage

I must admit, I was disappointed but not surprised that he had the nerve to accept a peerage. Watching that ancient ceremony, it's depressing to think how devalued the Peerage have become under Labour. When you think about all those worthy and noble men who were ejected from the House of Lords in 1999 and then you look at the dross Tony Blair have put in there, it's sad. The fact that Lord Martin was introduced between Lords Foulkes and Lord Falconer says it all really. A right pair of cronies.
