The problem with X command is that if you "X" toward the enemy, your skirmishers take a step forward after each shot, which you dont want because u want maximum distance between ur skrims and enemy muskets. If you "X" away from enemy, while in battle, half ur skirms leave battle while half fight. Any solutions?
the reason u shoot farther isnt due to the x button it is because u have skirmishers instead of musketeers or a more mid ranged attack unit skirmishers are meant to be able to due damage at long range

This video is beyond a joke. Pressing 'x' is attack move and is used for melee units to pick different targets so they don't all mob around the same thing and ave 'pathing issues'. Using it on range units DOES NOT WORK because of a slight lag, enabling the other units to take a first shot off.
Attack move works on some ranged units though, like Abus guns, because you don't need micro in the first place to use them.

well you have to know your basics... if its in age 3 if he makes skirmishers and ruyters which they normally do you should counter it with offensive or defensive units: either lancers and and rods or dragoons and skirmishers. it should work better

its a scenario editor from AoE3, it looks different from AoE3 already made maps, because you can make your own map. hopefully this answers ur question...if not please post so

Well microing gives you the advantage, they all kill 1 skirm instead of killing different ones, which will end up killing you...Experts in AoE can see the genius of it since they do actually look at stats like how much damage a range unit can do and how much seige it does. So if your playing for fun it doesn't matter.
Also, with the cannon fire, you have to think about this. Are you firing on a pretty big formation lined up for the kill? I once manage to kill 8 longbows with one cannon at once because they all lined up along in a nice line. They do bounce...something you have to consider. Also, I dont think it works with a British Rocket...I think it does not work against rockets...as they..you know..."explode"..correct me if I'm wrong though. I just have never seen anything take one from a rocket w/out dmg.

Oh Yeah, you know what you said about not attacking ranged units with melee? Well, I can tell you one which you must NOT attack with range...Grenadiers. An ally of mine once tried attacking 12 grens with about 20-25 muskets. Lost it, then lost the game. Reason being, theyve got 50% range resistance. But, theyve only got 5 melee dmg, iirc. So, just to let you guys know. Grens are blimin amazing sometimes

it's good, but the micro you mention is a bit lacking. Starcraft players can split their units into two groups to kill faster and move back wounded soldiers and reuse them. You also tend to just shoot any unit rather than those with lower life. And you don't need to use the hotkey to click on a unit. Otherwise good job.
thnx i've done that before =D cept on age of empires though..and your right it does kill them faster when they micro from both sides..but wounded soldiers can't be healed though unless you get a monk and when you have an army of 100 skirm it kinda gets hard.
furthermore, play with minimized UI so u can see more of the screen, and set zoom to very far. You should hotkey attackmove so you don't have to press it with your mouse every time, and don't really want to use it unless raiding with hand cav, or moving your army towards a foward base without wanting to pay attention to them. Finally, if their explorer does manage to get ur villager to low health, garrison it in town center, that will kill their explorer quickly and won't idle 4 villagers atonce
yeah the hotkeys are Z and X, and tc's don't kill explorers unfortunately that fast, or i would have killed many unfortunate foreigners xD. But great constructive food back tho, that deserves a thumbs up =D
seriously? firstly: the only reason you won the skirmisher battle is cause you had more skirms; you didn't micro them you made them less effective even by only slightly weakening individual targets so all of them still shot you at once. The point of skirm micro is having 10ish per group and having all 10 shoot one skirm at once so it dies in one hit. In the dopps vs GB, you only won cause they didn't shoot u from far away, and you should never attack an enemy explorer with villagers ever
trust me i don't rig things >:O it's micro-ing if they focus on a unit, unfortunately they attack anything near them so its half microing..but it still works and doesn't weaken them at all,and you attack enemy xplorer with villagers if your pissed at them. it's effective and they can't explore half the map in a rush game :P unless they decided to head to you next. Great bombards and doppels i'm not too sure about,so i'll have to agree with you ther, and thats about it,man you had a lot to say :P
you shouldn't attack move with skirmishers that doesn't help because the first line of skirms will start shooting while the others move around the first line, wasting time not shooting. I still maintain that you should never use villagers to attack an explorer, it stops you gathering resources for the long amount of time it takes to kill the explorer, and i've never had an explorer kill my villagers in a rush game before by shooting at them (excluding explorers+ war dogs/minutmen) ;D
let's not argue about this cause unfortunately this is all worthless quarrelling and the that this is...well too big of a subject that anything could happen but we don't have proof to back us up that much....and attack move does help with skirmishers cause i won 3 games today with it ;D and it explorers attacking you does happen in some of my rush games ( stupid spanish players) but then that means their noob, but it is a good fact to know though.

its a scenario editor from AoE3, it looks different from AoE3 already made maps, because you can make your own map. hopefully this answers ur question...if not please post so

because in a battle u don't want to be rude, telling them will tell you whether its on purpose or not. But if you want to take it strategical then yeah kill the explorer so that way he can't explore.

All of these tips are great the only ones I knew were the explorer and the UI ones. I knew since my first game the explorer's weak point was melee.

yeah i'm Retro2, and rank is basically a 80-90% winnage Master Sgt or somewhere around there, while my vanilla is a sgt where i think i won half my games i need to make sure

Erm...the micro button is attack move...and you can't micro shooting units due to delay. Micro fast hand-infantry and cavalry

Well microing gives you the advantage, they all kill 1 skirm instead of killing different ones, which will end up killing you...Experts in AoE can see the genius of it since they do actually look at stats like how much damage a range unit can do and how much seige it does. So if your playing for fun it doesn't matter.

Also, with the cannon fire, you have to think about this. Are you firing on a pretty big formation lined up for the kill? I once manage to kill 8 longbows with one cannon at once because they all lined up along in a nice line. They do bounce...something you have to consider. Also, I dont think it works with a British Rocket...I think it does not work against rockets...as they..you know..."explode"..correct me if I'm wrong though. I just have never seen anything take one from a rocket w/out dmg.

hmm that seems possible and yeah the brit rocket explodes which i hate since it does a lot of damage. same thing with the flying crow...those 2 things are evil.

Oh Yeah, you know what you said about not attacking ranged units with melee? Well, I can tell you one which you must NOT attack with range...Grenadiers. An ally of mine once tried attacking 12 grens with about 20-25 muskets. Lost it, then lost the game. Reason being, theyve got 50% range resistance. But, theyve only got 5 melee dmg, iirc. So, just to let you guys know. Grens are blimin amazing sometimes

i know which is why i use hussars for them....i made this vid a while back so can u tell me about not attacking range units with melee....cause i believe the opposite. MELEE those damn RANGe units...unless there 50 of them microing.

it's good, but the micro you mention is a bit lacking. Starcraft players can split their units into two groups to kill faster and move back wounded soldiers and reuse them. You also tend to just shoot any unit rather than those with lower life. And you don't need to use the hotkey to click on a unit. Otherwise good job.

thnx i've done that before =D cept on age of empires though..and your right it does kill them faster when they micro from both sides..but wounded soldiers can't be healed though unless you get a monk and when you have an army of 100 skirm it kinda gets hard.

furthermore, play with minimized UI so u can see more of the screen, and set zoom to very far. You should hotkey attackmove so you don't have to press it with your mouse every time, and don't really want to use it unless raiding with hand cav, or moving your army towards a foward base without wanting to pay attention to them. Finally, if their explorer does manage to get ur villager to low health, garrison it in town center, that will kill their explorer quickly and won't idle 4 villagers atonce

yeah the hotkeys are Z and X, and tc's don't kill explorers unfortunately that fast, or i would have killed many unfortunate foreigners xD. But great constructive food back tho, that deserves a thumbs up =D

seriously? firstly: the only reason you won the skirmisher battle is cause you had more skirms; you didn't micro them you made them less effective even by only slightly weakening individual targets so all of them still shot you at once. The point of skirm micro is having 10ish per group and having all 10 shoot one skirm at once so it dies in one hit. In the dopps vs GB, you only won cause they didn't shoot u from far away, and you should never attack an enemy explorer with villagers ever

trust me i don't rig things >:O it's micro-ing if they focus on a unit, unfortunately they attack anything near them so its half microing..but it still works and doesn't weaken them at all,and you attack enemy xplorer with villagers if your pissed at them. it's effective and they can't explore half the map in a rush game :P unless they decided to head to you next. Great bombards and doppels i'm not too sure about,so i'll have to agree with you ther, and thats about it,man you had a lot to say :P

you shouldn't attack move with skirmishers that doesn't help because the first line of skirms will start shooting while the others move around the first line, wasting time not shooting. I still maintain that you should never use villagers to attack an explorer, it stops you gathering resources for the long amount of time it takes to kill the explorer, and i've never had an explorer kill my villagers in a rush game before by shooting at them (excluding explorers+ war dogs/minutmen) ;D

let's not argue about this cause unfortunately this is all worthless quarrelling and the that this is...well too big of a subject that anything could happen but we don't have proof to back us up that much....and attack move does help with skirmishers cause i won 3 games today with it ;D and it explorers attacking you does happen in some of my rush games ( stupid spanish players) but then that means their noob, but it is a good fact to know though.

the first ones are normal strategies but i didnt know that the villagers can kill the hero so fast in melee :)

Yeah, me too. But then again..it kinda makes sense now...apart from that cannon dodging...how in the world? is that what that formation does? I thought it was a useless formation, since it slows me down, and it didnt change the resistance vs ranged units.

sorry dude my inbox not working right and i couldn't reply faster... okay you should play ports in no rush or an ffa. Ports will kill anyone if they aren't attacked first. Then i'd say german, than ottoman. But ports would be better
