i must admit that I dislike the studio version of Steppin' in the Slide but this time I've been truly captivated, especially by the three-part harmony in the last verse (help me please I fall I said... terrific!!!) but Ray is pretty solid in the low part throughout, John's falsettos still going strong at that point, good one!
@TVLorien Agree! Moraz synths here sound really better, more serious, and make the song slide more into a"shine on you crazy diamond" zone (it´s probably inspiration)! Hayward guitar laconic phrases receive a proper slide wavering move, with welcomed adds.Thomas voice is great too, but not his childlike flute notes competing with Moraz moments.
in the 60s and 70s the Moodies were a studio band, but "Steppin In A Slide Zone" developed from a boring pop piece to a ripping live performance. Flute counterpoints, Mellotron solo introduction, eccentric synthesizer runs. And "Talking Out Of Turn" is loaded with Mellotron chords. Awesome!
>>>a slide zone is an area in the mountains where the part you are walking on will slide down the mountain side out of control. it can happen with snow, gravel, rocks, etc. people usually don't survive.
been in a rock slide zone. wouldnt want to be there again. was in a wife slide zone with a former wife. wouldnt want to do her again either. the rock slide was easier and only scary. :)

as much as i like Norda there's just something about just the boys and Ray and John's obvious chemistry since they grew up together that cant be beat!
moodybluesgurl: I agree totally with your opinion of the Moodies. I've always said that they are angels on earth vibrating to the music of our cosmic heavens. They are so other-worldly wonderful. Been listening to them since the '60s and seen them countless times. They do not fit into any musical catergory per se; they are in their own incomparable universe. Looooove them!!!!! Especially Justin and John!!
bds1167: Totally agree with your assessment..the MBs are very other-worldly....cosmic......and Justin, especially, looks like a real gentleman from kinder times...yes they definitely take me back to medieval times when men were men and went out and slayed the dragons!!!
Well, JL is so magnificent in these, I can't help but admire him so immensly (where the heck is the spell check in these! Dont really feel like finding dictionary)— Anyway, he is just dynamic!! BUT when that prince (JH) is anywhere around, even as low key as he is tries to be here, well, it never ceases to always make my senses go into the SLIDE ZONE!
Don't ya love the way John says, "Slide Zone" when introducing song! And those leathers and soft angel looking hair... wish I could have actually been there close up to see this one. thank you so much for posting
Can I ask where you got all of these live videos from? Was it from their now defunct Fan Club? It would be great to have on DVD....any suggestions please?
I see Im going to be sitting in front of my screen during lunch break. Who needs a stupid sandwich when theres John Lodge and the Moody Blues to feast upon?
Hi Berry. Yes, I like the way he emphasizes each word. Actually, though, I especially enjoy "talking out of turn" on this vid. I like when John sings love songs. He's an emotional guy, like Justin.
All I can say is WOW! "Talking Out of Turn" is another one my favorties. It's such a beautiful song. I only wish they would have played the album version. I didn't know John played a 12-string acoustic guitar on that song, never realized it didn't have any bass. Maybe Patrick Moraz makes up for it playing low keys. He's such a great synth player.

Patrick Moraz was a wonderful keyboardist, but no one could replace Pinder's deep, lush Mellotron sounds and amazing lyrics

I think it means the bermuda triangle because there are little triangles on the record sleeve .

These blokes are so etherial..... They, along with Yes and Genesis, make me think of medieval England.... troubadores from another time.....
