  • nice jig

  • Some good ideas John. Two suggestions: eliminate the wrench tightening with a hand knob on the underside of the platform. Second, eliminate the the skew adapter by making a t-square design from the start with all three 'V' shaped tool troughs across the 'T' rack (the two end skew-troughs could have some adjustment built into them as well). But good ideas and good video.

  • @Shoetiefly

Thanks for watching my videos. You comments offer good alternatives.

    All the best,

    John

  • From reading the comments and questions, people don't seem to pay attention to the video. He answers your questions if would just listen. Absurd.

    Thanks for the video, John.

  • what about a side grind jig?

  • Awesome Video.. My husband has been looking for a accurate way to sharpen his tools..

I look forward to buying the plans however I do not see where to buy the plans.. Any help would be great

  • @qponjunkie

  • What tools do I need to build the jig? I'd hate to buy the plans to only find out I need $700 worth of power tools.

  • Thanks for your question. To build the jig in the video, I used a Table Saw and Drill press. However, I suspect you would receive just as good results with a Skill saw and hand drill. ---John---

  • Excellent tutorial. Informative...

  • Thanks I hit "Buy It Now" on Ebay but it seems as if theres a problem with my Paypal account after ten years, it figures, Can't wait to get my plans!

    Be Well,

    Ray

  • I have different length tools, how would this work?

  • You should be fine. The jig is made to be adjustable for various lenghts. In fact none of my cutting tools are the same length. Hope this helps. ---John---

  • John-

You definately took the worry out of keeping my new tools sharp!

  • That's another damn fine instructional video.

I've never turned a piece of wood in my life but I've just bought a lathe on the strength of your excellent work. All the instructions stress the need for SHARP tools but none of 'em show you how to keep 'em that way. Thanks John.

  • Thanks for teaching a newbie!

  • would it not be better for the edge to sharpen all your tools on the side of the grinder to insure a flat edge rather that the curved or [ hallow ground] edge.

  • Very useful and witty video! Excellent.

  • good plan my grampa gave me hes set of chisles there the same as urs

  • Excellent, how can I get a plan i=of the jigs?

  • Great video. If you couldn't sharpen on the side of a wheel then why would the manufacturer put a sharpening surface on the side?

  • The wheel is just cut out of a rock. There's no point to removing the sharpening surface from the side. But if you want to use it, good luck with that.

  • "Teachers make dreams come true" Thank you.

  • hey umm.. is there a way to find somekind of jig for sharpening? im a decent woodworker myself, and i have been turning pen blanks ofor a year or so now. what do you use? i dont have enough money rite now to get the book. (im a kid saving for france)

  • Excellent videos, but you should never sharpen on the side of a grinding wheel. Good way to lose an eye, or worse. Wheels can and will "shatter" doing it that way.

  • great video cant wait to order the plans

  • Plans are available on ebay. Search for: Build a Homemade Lathe Chisel Sharpening Jig

    Thanks for looking.

    John

  • Exelent, I'm gone make it

    Thank you
