Gonji is correct, I have been putting together support group for noncustodial parents, since we have always had a hard time making a living. My idea now is to expand on that idea. Barter, trade, explore ideas for simple,cheap living and always help each other. People think is bad now, just wait! Correct, but compared to the dollar there are safer currencies. Swiss franc, Singapore dollar, New Zealand dollar are the primary ones. While I hold accounts in some of those, I also have gold and silver. So, yes, gold and silver should be primary, but if you want to have accounts in other currencies, I would recommend countries with a long history of stability and that are preferably neutral in wars.

If I go to work, my earnings are so low that I wont be able to afford medical insurance or to pay cash for the pills I require for survival. They cost approx. $1200 a month which is more than I can earn in take home pay. As long as I am unemployed, I am covered by a county plan until age 65. In Feb., I will begin receiving a whopping $338 from SS at age 62. Welcome!!!!!!

Based on the international response to the financial situation, I think it's more likely that within a couple of years we are going to see massive inflation rather than a depression - though you can't rule anything out, especially given that there are reasoned arguments that the real unemployment rate already surpasses 15%.

Gonji is correct, I have been putting together support group for noncustodial parents, since we have always had a hard time making a living. My idea now is to expand on that idea. There is no money. The borrower is slave to the lender in the bible, but only if they borrowed something of value. The FED is a private corp., creates a private 'money' that has no intrinsic value (replacement cost=0) and states that you are a debtor if you don't pay it back, but won't let you print up worthless paper to pay it back with and requires you to give something that has intrinsic value - your labor. Your labor has a lien on the thing it was exhanged for.

It's fascinating to watch this with the benefit of hindsight. In my estimation we're not in 1929 territory yet, but things have clearly declined a lot; and, it's my understanding that there are still a lot of toxic assets on the books of our financial institutions whose value is being legally overstated based on Federal loan guarantees and a loosening of accounting rules. There's more to come, I expect.

Correct, but compared to the dollar there are safer currencies. Swiss franc, Singapore dollar, New Zealand dollar are the primary ones. While I hold accounts in some of those, I also have gold and silver. So, yes, gold and silver should be primary, but if you want to have accounts in other currencies, I would recommend countries with a long history of stability and that are preferably neutral in wars.

I'm truly sorry for your situation and appologize for my lack of sensitivity. I've been out of work for ten years. If I go to work, my earnings are so low that I wont be able to afford medical insurance or to pay cash for the pills I require for survival. They cost approx. $1200 a month which is more than I can earn in take home pay. As long as I am unemployed, I am covered by a county plan until age 65. In Feb., I will begin receiving a whopping $338 from SS at age 62. Welcome!!!!!!

Thanks for posting this Ella. It's an articulate piece, and given its apparent age is eerily prescient. Based on the international response to the financial situation, I think it's more likely that within a couple of years we are going to see massive inflation rather than a depression - though you can't rule anything out, especially given that there are reasoned arguments that the real unemployment rate already surpasses 15%.
