This live version reminds me of the show I saw in 1975, very tight band live, with one of the best drum solos to date. Wish there was live footage of that tour thru America promoting Desolation Boulevard, they spared nothing for those shows! Still have an exploding (flash) light bulb from the show, front of the stage was lined with them. After the show, a roadie asked another "can they take the bulbs". The reply was yes, their garbage now, so I grabbed one, top is burned insde from the heat.
I wish it was 1973 again...and I can imagine myself at this show. :) They were one of the best bands, hands down. Excellent musicians who also became great songwriters (Chinn and Chapman didn't write ALL of their singles) in their own right. I just wish they'd gotten their due.
ASS are still on the road and they're great! By the way, on Suzi's Back to the Drive, Andy Scott plays guitar and wrote 3 4th of that stuff. Greetings from ol' Germany
Yeaaaahhhh!!!! THE SWEET4Ever!!!! My favourite Glam-Rock-Group of the 70's. Never 4get the Impression, when i heard this Song in the Beginnung of my first Sweet-Live-Concert in Frankfurt/Main-Germany-Jahrhunderthalle. Hell Raiser - the stage explods by fireworks and the Drums and the Guitar Riff Starts followed from Brian's powerful Voice. It knocks me out, until today.
How lucky were we who lived through the seventies with music like this?? Real music then, sung by real artists. Not yer X-Factor clap-trap of today. We Want Sweet!!!
What a class act these boys were, best of British. I was just a kid back then, but I remember having a huge crush on Mick Tucker, what a beauty he was and of course an amazing drummer. RIP Mick and Brian
omg....100% ass kick rock'n roll! The whole live album is alongside MC5's debut one off the greatest moments of Rock 'n Roll ever caught on tape. Too sad that the whole band totaly went Spinal Tap during the 80's till now.....
And there you have it ---rock mastery at its best !! , great dynamics, great vocals and everything fits in to place, oh by the way that Mick Tucker ( RIP ) was an incredibly gifted drummer wasnt he ........... Ed
I used to dislike the Sweet ..... but now after 35 years I have just realised what a great band they were. Totally underrated at the time (most people probably dismissed them as the band that had weird make up) but they can really PLAY and are one of the best bands of that decade. Very professional off stage and on.
Theres been a few bands that Ive had a change of heart about since You Tube. Sweet wasnt one of them, always a fan. But I know what you mean, some things sound better with the passage of years.
I will never get their guitar tuning!??! It's not really standard E it's shifted a quarter of a note higher or deeper i think... just like the old acdc stuff, they don't play the real today known standard e...
well i'm 18 and have fallen in love with this band . When i was watching this on here the other day my mum walked past and looked at me in shock and said " my god are you watching the sweet?" I said yeah and she said with a very surprised look on her face " you actually like them?" , i love music especially glam rock and to go back in time and watch the bands who started it all gives me a sense of knowledge when it comes to music , kids just don't do that these days , its a shame.
@bulldogzbruce I was really knocked off by that B-side as well...Burning showed that they had quality, next to chinn chappman commerciality, allthough I also appreciated that alot, in its own way. Blockbuster, etc...Best glamour band (what they represnted) with MUCH more individual qualities then Mud, Slade, Gary Glitter, etc. But I think that Glamrock victimized them from start. Hence they never became a Led Zep.
I had this Glam Rock collection on VHS in 1989 ... good times! I'll be forever grateful to Def Leppard & their Rocket video for helping to make that collection possible.
This looked like a really fun band with good songs and musicianship, with that unruly unpredictable edge, and bit of insanity that all good rock and roll should contain
the group wasa amazing i was lucky to meet brian when i was eleven he signed my albums and got the band to sign sweet fanny addams what a gent and a star
I was 10 years old when this came out they were on top of their game back in 1973 still sounds awesome today. Id forgot what a great rock band they were thanks for posting!!.
@flippyflyer Totally agree my friend. Just getting back into Sweet and Mick is fantastic. I'm a drummer and I love his style. Top top player. End of story indeed. RIP Mick.
A heavy rock band masquerading as glam rock. These guys were better than that whole genre imo, same as Queen were. Great stuff!
