@dietr002 Im in 4th gear rught at the start, then quickly pop it into 5th.You can change gears with practice, but you are right..cant change without letting gas off.Just practice, and dont overcook it and it will come with time :)

in wich gear did you make the wheelie???when u have the wheelie, do u change gears or not ccause my bike dont let me change gear if i dont stop gas..??
heyy i have a CRF 250 2008 and im thinking of buying a YZ 250 2009 because the 250f maintance is fukn huge and these look so much funner to ride but i dunno any ideass
@Ashby005 go for it, these bikes can chug along like tractors or be completely ballistic on the gas.
realistically, track or ttrail you probs wont be going a hell of alot quicker than yuor crf, its just the delivery of the power will make you feel like you are
@Ashby005 Im with mad87645 :) I was riding at these trails yestday, real windy, slippery hardpack,my bike handled it swt as,with good clutch, throttle control, yet you can get out on the open stuff, & go like a cut cat &,jump anything your skill level will let you....all for about a 3rd of your maintenance costs of a four stroke. I like 4 strokes, but I couldnt afford to race or have a life if I had to maintain one :)
@larrykin1 Huge maintenance on a four stroke? I've had my four stroke for the past two and a half years, all I have to do is change my oil every few rides, and change my spark plug about every dozen rides or so, and I've had no problems what so ever.
@ForgottenBasilisk....wait until you have to do the topend!!I can & do my own topend rebuilds, because its a 2 stroke and easy to work on.It takes me just over 2 hours from start to finish & $300 for all the parts. If I owned a 4 stroke I would have to put my bike in the shop,to get the rebuild done.
Im not sure about where you live, but in my neck of the woods, it costs on average $1400 just for the topend rebuild, with no extra probs cropping up, like a slightly mis-shapen valve needing to be replaced etc, or shims being required.
@larrykin1 1400 for a top end rebuild? wat kinda shit u smokn? light cylinder bore, new piston, rings, crank (if you NEED it) wont cost aything near 1400 on a 2 stroke.
@MrSweetleaf92 Hi, you need to go and re-read what I have written. I said That it costs about me about $300 to do a rebuild on a @ stroke, doing it myself because its easy to do & about $1400 to do a topend rebuild on a 4 stroke, with the shop doing it, because its out of my mechanical grasp, with all the valves, timing & what not. You mite need to check what shit your smoking, because its affecting your eye sight :)
@larrykin1 i actually saw someone ridding an old orange Kawasaki(i think) with 420 and a pot leaf painted on the fenders. it was a cool idea but it looked like shit with the orange
@larrykin1 Two strokes are so easy to work on.. We rebuild my dads three wheeler every now and again.. 86 Honda 250R with the big bore kit. Biggest piston possible, 72 Mils. Blew it up on the dunes bad had to re do it big time.
if your names 2 stroke 2 fast you should know how to tell if its a 2 stoke or not, look at the pipe. i could tell a 2 stroke from a 4 stoke from a mile away
nice one mate 1.2 km is awesome gotta love the 2 stroke my best is 600m done it 3 times but as my mates explained it didn't count cause the video camera was off. I'm scetchy on the standups though feel heaps more comfortable sitting
Im not gunna take yr money m8, I can start in 1st gear & run all the way thru to 5th doing sitting down wheelies.Learned sitting down before standing up. Its easier doing sit down wheelies than standing. :)
its not that hard... i do the same thing...1st through 5th... except i do my longest ones on a road... its the only place i could find long enuf.. i road my longest about 3 miles.. till train tracks...
ok could u give me any tips or something to doing stand up wheelies? i kno one problem i have is im to big for my bike but thatll be fixed soon and i hear its harder on a stroke because when the power band and what not kicks in
practice, practice, practice :) It helps 2 push down on yr front suspension, 2 get preload, just b4 u giv it the gas to loft the front wheel up. U want yr upperbody to be relaxed, letting th bike come up 2 u, so as not to throw yr bodyweight to far to the back, causing u to loop out. After that its a matter of learning where th balance point is,and throttle control. U have to clamp on 2 th bike with yr legs as well, while doin it.b ready 2 hit th rear brake,if it goes bak 2 far,
With a small 2 stroke motor there is no power or torque until it reaches a ceertain rpm band called "power band".up until then there isnt much grunt hence the big differential in the power being made. With a bigger 2 stroke motor there is naturally more power at th start, continuing rite through,so there isnt as big a punch outa nowhere. Its got the juice right from word go.You ride a smaller 2 stroke weapon with the throttle wide open, using the clutch to control the power put to your rear wheel
40-1 Using Castrol tts oil. I dont foul any plugs while doin th slow tricky stuff you sometimes come across trailriding, & it does a gd job protecting my bore, when Im racing MX.
As above reply, I find it hard to shift gear while standing, due to motocross boot bulk,& clamping on with feet;).sitting down, can go from 1st to 5th no worries.Yet to master that, while standing.Cheers

yeah mate, thats right on the balance point.I jst keep the nose rite there giving very fast blips on the throttle.I think running yr rear tyre at a slightly lower pressure than yr normal can also help while doing them :)Nothing wrong with 650m bud

The smaller the 2 stroke motor the bigger th hit with powerband, to by the way, but once yr comfortable on yr bike you will crack it.
larrykin1 3 years ago
thx for that information, but why is the hit of the powerband bigger when the 2 stroke motor is smaller?
