  • ISN'T KNOWING WHAT GUITAR HE'S USING MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE STRINGS?

P.S. SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS, DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS USING IT. XP

  • @theandres771 it's a PRS NF3

  • tks man!

  • Is he gay?

  • I just bought the boss fb-2..... its a heck loads of fun XD

  • does the pedal clean up if you turn the volume on the guitar down? or does it just get quieter?

  • The only thing I want in this video is that gorgeous PRS!

  • Methinks Imma have to learn that lick he plays @ 6:43

  • 4:04 sounds like Angus Young

  • i like that feedback option, very nice

  • Xotic ac booster or the Boss FB-2??

  • @TheMrspongebob1111 i'd take xotic ac booster over boss any time.

  • I'm glad you mentioned the Ac30 in the review, some people were afraid to say this in other reviews... to my ears, it does sorta sound like it but it's still missing something.

  • Better than President Obama and Jay Leno at White House Correspondents Dinner

  • 07:25 - Like a Boss ;)

  • Don't sounds good to me

  • I'm really digging these pedals!

  • Glad to see Paul Fromguitarworld back in the videos.

  • That pedal does kinda sound like a AC30 with less brown and a little more fizz. It would be nice to hear the booster pushing the front end of a real tube amp. Nice one

  • I love this channel. Paul is awesome in explaining thing in a way easily understood. The guitar he's using is a wet dream. Those narrowfield pickups are amazing. PRS has got it going. I have been a sub to GW for eight years (including the magazine before YouTube) and it has always been a treat when the new issue arrived in the mailbox. I have all the issues with Dimbag's monthly column which I still go back and re-read. Love it!

  • 7:25 - adam jones creates these sounds. boss did a good job emulating adam jones' raw talent for tonal manipulation.

  • @ladicius Are you saying that Adam Jones invented Feedback? That is woefully inaccurate.

  • @primusdude87 i'm not quite sure how you deducted that i somehow believe adam jones created feedback. you are incorrect - adam jones is good at manipulating his tones through the use of feedback. he is a good example of how feedback can be used in guitar playing, my favorite, in fact. and no one invented feedback, but someone obviously discovered it. the argument then becomes 'who is best' which is a matter of opinion and is a pointless discussion.

  • I like the boss st2 power stack for the plexi tone lol the combo drive sound way better in other vids

  • Combo drive sounds pretty fizzy and digital.

  • definitely gonna buy these new Boss BC-2 Combo Drive and FB-2 Feedback/Booster Pedals :)

  • i bet the phrase/meme 'like a boss' came from the pedals

  • i love these pedals

  • bla bla bla .Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar.

  • Like the combo drive, sounds slick, the other ... well I guess if you need the boost, the feedback sounded pretty poor.

  • 00:29 boatload? wtf

  • I tend to like Boss stuff.

not overpriced, durable and always gets the job done.

  • boss is boss...nuff said

  • What guitar is that. Any one help? Thanks

  • @jmwbrfc9407 PRS NF3

  • @jmwbrfc9407 PRS NF3

  • can u just demo the damn pedal!!!

  • pause the video at 0:32

  • considering i prefer dunlop stompboxes im quite suprised at these pedals!

  • Why theres a feeling that he is gay some how?

  • @Horsantti Because you feel attracted to him of course.

  • @vileguile4 Noo im a straight guy.

  • Hey guys will you all do me a favor and check out my video of me playing lead over a blues backing tracking and tell me what you think? I'm a metal guy but I thought i would give blues a try. Like if you like it and comment your opinion pls and subscribe ill do the same :D

  • the combo drive sounds really nice

  • Geez, I actually like both of these pedals. Nice demo, I may have to go out and make me a purchase or two. Thanks.

Oh yeah, that guitar is pretty freaking sick, too:)

  • who cuts your hair?

  • so does the feedbacker act like a sustainer?

  • The feedback booster wasn't bad though.

  • It sounds too american, classic rockish.

  • finally useful pedals. Thanks Paul.

  • I personally liked this review, he took time to really explain what the pedals did before playing, stop hating… awesome pedals by the way!

  • @Poncianoedubiges i agree, i'm not really in a rush when i listen to an effects pedal review lol

  • combo drive doesnt sound the greatest, but the feedback booster looks interesting.

  • The line he said at 0:30 is so lame haha

  • Color me shocked that he's not playing a total piece of shit guitar for once.

  • Lol people care more about what guitars your using not what strings decent review thoug

  • Boss "finest" "iconic" LOL

  • What beautiful guitar, pardon me, what model and brand is that?

  • @anarazi It's a Paul Reed Smith (PRS) NF3 guitar. Good luck trying to get one with it's price tag of about $2,000.

  • @SevrenSavage To be fair, I don't think there's much luck about it, since it isn't a very limited model. You just need they money and its yours :)

  • It does say a lot that they've been working for 4 years

  • insane guitar. i almost bought one of these but i dont have enough money.

  • the musical world is rad!

  • What guitar is that?

  • @Roct9 Are you trolling? 'cause you can't be serious. Either you know nothing about six stringed instruments, or your just can't pay attention. @ 0:42 you will clearly see the headstock, and if you don't recognize the most iconic shape ever, or the large Paul Reed Smith signiture, or the truss rod cover that says NF3, then I am not sure what eles to say. That's why he didn't say it, 'cause it's so obvious.

  • @Roct9 its a PRS (Paul Reed Smith) NE3

  • @Giggity230 NE3? You're wrong buddy. The PRS website says NF3.

  • People are never happy with what they get for free...demo it yourselves if you're not satisfied..

  • @jochiasson See my profile. I have demo'd nearly 100 pedals, and while I don't insult my viewers by explaining to them everything about a pedal that they should understand anyway, people seem to like them.

  • its Boss not Bwoss

  • too bad that BOSS EFFECT don't have a true bypass... They are sounds good though... too bad...

  • @nobleblood100 go to JHS and get them modded, they throw in true bypass for almost nothing. I'm gunna mod my SD-1 as soon as i get the cash. they've got a special mod for it.

  • @Thorn137666 Mod it yourself. I wouldn't give JHS a dime. There's people out there with far better business ethics than that guy (cloning, misrepresenting what he's selling, etc). Or there's other people out there to do good mods.

  • @nobleblood100 While I agree, you can mod them, and also TB is largely overrated compared to a good buffer. If it sounds good, then it is good. True bypass or not.

  • @metalvocalistwanted Gear of all sorts breaks, including (rarely) Boss pedals. Really, there are *very* few brands of pedals that are prone to breaking. Most arrive DoA if they are ever going to break, and then its a simple return to get a new one.

  • Sounds like you can get some pretty awesome 80's style of tones from these

  • The amp is likely to be a Blackstar HT Club 40, as mentioned on the site of guitar world in an artical about the top 5 amplifiers of 2011.

Indeed it could be mentioned more but I'm pretty satisfied with the reviews as they are, still.

  • :| some of u guys are assholes...be glad that there is a review... now i'm gona kiss some ass --> tnx guitarworld. Keep it up.

  • I bought my DS-2 Turbo Distortion in 1994.... Still working.

  • If you guys keep complaining about how much this demos sucks.. Paul is gonna be unemployed soon :O

  • oh wait guys, it's cool. he uses THIS GUITAR. i'm not familiar with that brand, maybe they're foreign

  • So, how much does Dunlop pay?

  • these reviews have been better

  • Shut up and play

  • @Jim71 he's explaining what to expect if you buy it. so shut up and watch the damn video.

  • Ew... so digital sounding.

  • "Boss is well known for making some of the finest, as well as the most iconic stomp boxes in the industry". No, Paul. Boss is well known for making cheap sounding pedals that suck your tone. They REALLY need to come up with a new bypass system for their pedals.

  • @metalwillofficial Boss is iconic - there's no doubt about that - but I do agree with the tone-sucking comment. I've had a few Boss pedals in my bass rig and they weren't the best-sounding pedals.

  • @metalwillofficial personally i aby my rig and have bypass pedals on one side and all my time based effects are on the other... almost all of them are boss, and i have great tone on either side of the stage. name one way that true bypass is better, and don't google it. you don't know what you're talking about. buffering has its place in a rig.

  • feedback booster sounds horrible but the other one sounds good.

  • i'd rather wait for the PGS demo...

  • @elStinKINGS PGS seems to rarely do Boss pedals. They like to focus on the more exotic and boutique stuff.

  • Both sounded good on certain settings and think it's supposed to be booster before the gain so now they are in the wrong order to work properly.

  • @Zhaggysfaction in most situations, this is obviously correct. the boost in this case is not a boost, it's basically a time-based effect; it grabs a frequency and holds it like the electronics in a fernandes sustainer. i have the original boss feedbacker and it sounds like asshole in a really cool ds-1 kind of way...

  • @jasonfifi

Yeah probably in this case when there is the feedback thing. But don't you normally put the booster in fornt of the amp (in this case the combo driver) and not after it in the effects loop. I don't know but maybe for the feedback to work properly it has to be after the distortion.

  • @Zhaggysfaction personally, i would probably run it first in the chain, too.

  • Terrible...

  • Digital pieces of crap.

  • Funny how he said "boost" @ 5:53 Sounds like he was horny or something xd

  • I love this demo. Really great. Keep this arrangement :)

  • Angus 4 Ever

  • THAT GUITAR IS AWESOME THATS THE ONE STRUCKED ME!

  • could the bc-2 do any ds-1 sounds?

  • So you mention the strings you're using (kinda not a huge sound difference), but don't mention the amp you're using at all or the model of the guitar (easier to see). Also, as one demo guy to another, 4 minutes before playing a single sound is a little long.

  • @Tibbon THANK YOU! Hopefully GW will get wise one of these days....

  • @Tibbon Bet you it is a blackstar amp

  • @Tibbon it doesn't matter what amp he is using. He's demonstrating the PEDALS.. played through a clean channel. Jackass

  • @JSpears90 But strings brand and gauge matter? As did a 45 second rave about how many Boss pedals he owns and how much he loves them?

I've done a ton of pedal demonstrations, and yes the amp matters. If I played through a Two Rock, AC-30, Dual Rectifier or JC-120 would all sound incredibly different.

Boss and Dunlop both advertise and thus pay Guitar World thousands per month, which honestly creates a bit of a conflict of interest for demos. No company has ever paid me for a demo placement.

  • @Tibbon Perhaps they have a Dunlop endorsement.

  • @realbluemeanie Probably, or its part of Dunlop's ad buy. Dunlop makes great products for sure, but I wish Guitar World was more transparent about all of it.

  • @Tibbon I met Paul last year at NAMM and he was doing demos for the Dunlop booth.... might be a coincedence there (bit of ad revenue for Paul if you catch my drift)

  • I have come to understand that some people just can't help themselves from bitching. Give the guy a break! He's trying to explain how the friggin thing works! To fully explain two new pedals in under four minutes is a good job as far as I am concerned. If he only talked for 2 minutes, people would bitch he didn't give a long enough explanation. Who cares what amp he's using. Explaining the amp setting would've made him talk even longer! This is not just a demo, it's also a review. Get with it.

  • @sixstringfretter While you can find out every function of the pedals he's demoing (manuals are on the internet), unless he tells you what amp he's using, you'll never know. And the amp has a huge influence (e.g. will I get that sound with a Fenderish amp or a Marshall-type amp? Will I get that distortion easily at low levels or do I need a low watt amp? etc.).

  • @Tibbon For the record, the amp they use these days is almost always a Blackstar HT-40 or HT-20, can't remember which. Paul stated this in one of his articles online. Thumbs up so people can see!

  • @ConnorGilks Thanks! I don't have too much experience with these amps actually. I think I plugged into one once at Guitar Center, but wasn't overly impressed and moved on.

  • @Tibbon No problem mate :) Yeah and that's fair. Personally I bought mine after hearing the reviews and demos going "This has a nice dirt channel, and a KILLER clean channel..." but when I got it I hated it. After a few months of breaking in the speaker that all changed! Best amp I've heard in my life. Too bad it took in a while to break in the speaker (this was like, playing an hour a week for a few months) but it's still amazing.

  • @ConnorGilks Ah yea, breaking it in can help a good bit. Also your own guitar, and not in a room full of wankers (guitar center) helps a lot. I'll give them another go when I can.

  • @Tibbon Hahaha! Well said! Hope you dig 'em man, let me know if you want a demo of either of my Blackstar amps. :)

  • @Tibbon Strings can make a HUGE sound difference, Mr. Sound Guy.

  • @summitthescale Kinda, not really. I'd say the amp and guitar you're using matter more. I switched brands on my '59 Jazzmaster recently and I can't really tell the difference. I can tell the difference when I plug in a Tele instead though. If you don't see that the Dunlop thing is clearly a plug for the brand, I'm kinda shocked.

  • @Tibbon Advertisment...

  • Playing starts @3:54.

  • @szhixson ohhhhh thanks kkkk

  • Is this any good for brian may kinda tones? Really nice sounds Paul!

  • @rafabcarvalho Its based off a Vox AC30, the amp brian used, so yes.

  • @cola4369 I know mate! But is it really acurate? Because the AC30 used by may is the one with the top boost, ain't it? And the voicing as well may affect. But it seems good!

  • hi im an amateur ( still learning acoustic, havent yet moved to electric yet) umm do u know if i would need these little pedals if i just get a big multi effect pedal??? cuz sometimes i dont wanna bring so many things i just wanna bring one item that has all the , does the boss GT 10 have all these little pedals' effects???

  • @UnstoppableBird

What I've come to know over the years is that pedal modelers or multi effect processors are not as great as standalone pedals. If you listen carefully, you'll hear the difference. It's more expensive and less convenient, but your tone will be better.

I recommend you try any pedal or processor you might like before you buy it because even though you can see a demo in Youtube, the sound will be different in person. Hope that helps.

  • I like that he included a brief explanation of his experience with Boss pedals.

  • looking forward to the keeley mod of the combo drive!

  • thats pretty good second comment woop! bitches!!!
